“Great value for money- nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2014

Great hotel- clean, fresh and service good. Definately good value for money but we were staying in low season so may be more expensive in Summer months. Great location- there is no heated pool though so bear this in mind if travelling in Winter months. Rooms equipped with all you need including a mini bar( which is naturally overpriced) but nice to have the option. Recommend getting breakfast delivered to your room for and extra 1.50. Overall good hotel- would recommend and would visit again

Room Tip: dont bother paying the extra tenner a night for a sea view- we didnt and still have a nice view (if...

Hotel Calypso is located in the picturesque Marsalforn Bay and is ideal for a quiet, relaxing holiday. It must be one of the cleanest hotels in the world! Yet we found the food on half- board to be monotonous and only of canteen quality, which was highly surprising when you see the full silver service restaurant. Furthermore, the attitude of the staff was a little patronising which made us feel uncomfortable. They are very quick to remind you of their four star rating on Trip Advisor should you wish to complain about the food. I spoke to a German man in the lift one day who he told me he had been coming to this hotel for nineteen years. I asked him if the food had always been this poor and he said it had not. I also asked him what he thought of the food now. He said it was now rubbish!

I would recommend that this is a good hotel for bed and breakfast, but make sure you dine out in the evening which is what we ended up doing.

Spent a week with my wife and two friends at the Calypso last week. Found the hotel , which we had booked as a package with Mercury Direct, all as described in the brochure. Its position overlooking the small harbour in Marsalforn would in the summer make a great spot for people watching which was sadly lacking in rainy November!
Our room which had a sea view was large sufficiently well furnished , clean and adequate for all our needs. We were on a half board basis with breakfast in the first floor dining room which consisted of a both hot and cold buffet with plenty of choice- rather too much looking at my waistline now! Evening meals served between 7 and 10 in the 6th floor restaurant were 3 courses with choice of 3 starters and mains and choice of two sweets. Good selection of meals and more than adequate portions.
Staff throughout friendly and helpful .
Throughout our stay there were problems with intermittent breakdown of the main lifts , a nuisance particularly as my wife was having to use crutches ,but efforts were being made to rectify the system.
TV basic and old style with only limited channels.
Overall very good value for the price we paid. Would we go back there? YES.

Room Tip: Most rooms have sea view

We spent a rainy Thanksgiving holiday here at the Calypso. The hotel was comfortable and met all our needs. The room was clean spacious but the bathroom was crowded and barely adequate. The beds were on the firm side but that was OK with us. Others may not appreciate that. The TV was dated and the available channels were limited. Not too big an issue with us but worth noting. We really only noticed this because we stayed in the room more than we normally would have because of the bad weather. They offered a decent breakfast. As beakfast buffets go it was middle of the road. It offered an English style menu as well as cheeses, cold cuts, many bread types and fruit. A nice addition was eggs to order. The elevator was out of order several times so we used the service elevator. Again, not a big issue. I just write this as a point of reference in case it is a recurring problem. The location is perfect and, though pricey, we enjoyed our stay. Would we stay again? Probably not because there are other places to go. We would reccomend the Calypso to others.

Room Tip: Get a bay or ocean view room. Expect to pay more.

I have been visiting this island twice a year for 18 years and still love it. The best time is springtime when it is green and flowers everywhere. It is ideal for a walking holday, with easy tracks and impressive clifftops, plus plenty of history to enjoy. I always stay at the Calypso hotel, a friendly place overlooking the pretty harbour. I have recently returned from therre and hope to return soon

Room Tip: Sea views are best but cost more

Stayed for 10 days in November with brother and sister in law, Hotel very nice, food was good but felt more choices on the menu would have been good. Staff were very friendly and a special mention about Chris the Night Porter who was very helpful toward us and told us a lot of information about the island and the best places to visit - after all ' local knowledge is the best'
The area was a little quiet but probably more due to the reason we stayed in November and am sure it would be busier during peak months. but all in all a pleasant vacation

We have been staying at Calypso Hotel for many yeas and were always very satisfied.
During our last visit we were very disappointed. Towels supplied were not bath towels and rather,
worn out.The Bed sheets have seen better days and the mattresses are about time to be replaced with new ones. Breakfast was also inferior to the breakfast we use to have until our last visit earlier this year.
