I gave the hotel a below average rating because on average the great and the bad things didn't cancel each other out. The good thing about the hotel is the size of the room we had and the view was spectacular. We also really enjoyed breakfast which was a great way to start the day and the kitchen and waiting staff were excellent. However, despite booking a double room they gave us a twin room for our first night and this couldn't be changed for over a day. The reception was very condescending and were very unhelpful in trying to sort this out. On the final day the housekeeping knocked on our door and came into our room while we were sleeping. After asking what was wrong they told us to not worry that they would only be a few minutes... this was absolutely ridiculous thing to do and so early. They then came back 10 minutes later asking if they could clean the room. No that wasn't good enough. The staff (barring catering) let the hotel down but its location is good and the view is nice. Would try another hotel next time.

Me and my friend spent 2 days at Calypso hotel and was thoroughly impressed the moment we walked in. The staff were extremely welcoming and the cleanliness was top notch. We had a bay view room which was spacious and great views of the surrounding coastal shops and sea. The TV has many channels in English, and there is a fridge, fan and AC.

The location and choice for breakfast was second to none. Wall to ceiling windows that overlooked the sea, all white decor. Chefs to attend to you at no extra cost.

On the roof is an extensive sun lounge that overlooks the whole bay with a swimming pool too. A bar is also located there.

Room Tip: Bus 310 or 322 will get you to where you need.

We have been coming to stay at the Calypso for the last few years and I would agree with some reviewers that the rooms are looking a little tired but for the price you pay for the rooms b+b, it is very good value and an excellent location. A bay view room is our first choice although I can understand those preferring a sea view room - both of these have balconies and the views are a must and the rooms themselves are very spacious, light and clean. The breakfast has a good choice of the usual offerings that is available in Europe - the pastries and fresh bread are excellent. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and some of whom we recognise year after year. Some of the bathrooms could do with a bit of a refit but otherwise we have no complaints and would certainly continue to come back. As noted by some reviewers the rooms do not have flat screen televisions but this is not something that bothers us. We'll be back next year.

Top tip - Have a drink at the roof top bar either around sunset or after dark - it really is very special with great views over the Bay. The drinks, like everything else at the Calypso are very reasonable. Small tip - ask for a kettle for a tiny daily fee if you would like a hot beverage at your convenience, with tea and coffee a tiny bit more.

We have just spent a week at the calypso hotel and enjoyed our stay very much. We had a bay view room which was very clean and spacious. Very central position. Lots of choice for breakfast with attentive staff. Would have preferred pot of tea rather than pre made in hot flasks. Sun deck was beautiful

Lovely weekend break spent at this hotel. My partner booked a suite and it proved to be amazing! We had 2 bathrooms, 3 balconies with sea view and a lovely bathtub. A really beautiful room. Good value for money and also very central. The breakfast was also good. The staff are also friendly, especially at breakfast. The receptionist who seemed foreign was not always as friendly as her colleagues. I recommend this place as the rooms have been recently renovated and it's worth visiting.

I have been coming to Gozo at least once a year for the past 10 years and normally stay in Marsalforn as this is where the dive centre I use is based. Often I stay at the Calypso and it is clear that this hotel is in a steady decline.

It was never a great hotel, but the location is great, the rooms are largely OK, and the breakfast was adequate. What I have been seeing though is a steady decline in the fabric of the hotel, the towels are getting thinner and the breakfast selection and quality is getting worse.

On the upside the staff are great, but they can only carry the business for so long.
