I have been visiting Gozo since 1997 and apart from the refurbishment years in the early 2000s have always stayed at the Hotel Calypso. What a pleasure to see it returning to its' former glory after a series of mediocre managers. Sammy RAPA is just what this hotel needed, a motivator who is not afraid to get his hands dirty on the "shop floor", so to speak. The staff have always been helpful and very kind but there is now a new spring in their step which is really good to see. Mr. RAPA has some great ideas and I just hope the hotel owners have the foresight to invest where it is needed and let him make this hotel the best on the island

I just read a negative review on this hotel. I'm staying here now and quite frankly the last negative review seems to be like no hotel would satisfy them.
This hotel is lovely. Rooms are very large and spacious. Spotless.
Staff are fantastic. Manager mingles with staff and is always at hand to help.
Food is lovely. Menu is perfect and caters for everyone.
Pool is stunning.
View is breath taking.
Location is ideal. seconds from the beat restaurants in gozo.

I would highly recommend this hotel for both adults and families.

We are sadly departing on Sunday after a two week stay. We have read previous negative reviews and feel they have the wrong hotel! The rooms are spotlessly clean and the furnishings are good quality. The hotel has a quality feel to it and the staff are very attentive. The manager Sammy is a an absolute gent and mingles with the guests, we've had a couple of wine tasting evenings on the terrace for residents at no charge. The terrace and pool area is clean and the pool very refreshing and also clean. We were lucky enough to be given room 311 which has a large balcony with a couple of chairs and a view of the harbour and out to sea, it's heavenly! The room did not have a kettle but on request one was delivered immediately. A perfect hotel in a perfect location, quiet but surrounded by lovely restaurants and bars. We will be back!

Clean, Elegant spacious rooms and excellent views. The pool is situated on the roof of this hotel which is somewhat small but this is compensated with the superb views of Marsalforn Bay. Howevver, the bay is only a 50m away from the Hotel entrance. Many good restaurants in the area.

Room Tip: Sea Front Room is ideal

we stayed for 4 days in june 2014 - the room was a real disappointment with shabby outdated fittings and fixtures, the bathroom was tiny and the taps corroded. The small balcony did provide a view of the bay but did not have enough room to have a table on.
No tea or coffee making facilities, poor wi-fi connection and bedding that was just awful.
Some of the staff tried hard but unfortunately the Chef was not one of them. Breakfast was average at best and the evening meal was terrible - on one night the main course was inedible, when I complained to the waiter he said thank you and would I want a dessert!!!
The pool is pathetic and dirty with a scum around the edge and dead flies on the surface.
No way will I return here.

Room Tip: try another hotel

Having just spent a lovely week at this hotel we would recommend paying the extra for the sea view it is well worth it. The hotel is small, clean and very friendly. We were on a B & B basis and the breakfast was very good. There are a good selection of restaurants within a short distance and we thoroughly recommend the Arzella (turn right out of the hotel), a terraced restaurant overlooking the harbour.

Room Tip: Pay extra for sea view room.

20th June 2014. As returning guests (20 visits) to the Calypso Hotel we are very pleased to see it return to an excellent 4 star hotel, all down to the new manager.
In 2 months he has put right many points that had slipped over the last 4 or 5 years and we are looking forward to seeing more of what is promised.
Some points may seem trivial but overall it is what makes the star ratings what they are. There are new mattresses and towels, sun beds have been maintained, out door furniture has been varnished, kettle in the room ( although check, this may only apply to on- line bookings and long stay guests otherwise there may be a small charge) and the menu variation and quality of food used has improved enormously. The heavy sun umbrellas are now put out by the maintenance staff and the roof top pool area is always clean.
I could go on........... instead come see for yourself this unspoilt resort.
The staff have always been brilliant but this year they all seem more motivated and willing to do anything to make EVERYONES stay perfect.
We still have over 2 weeks stay left but I'm thinking of when we can fit a visit in next year.

Room Tip: The rooms all have the same fittings and are similar in size it's just the view. If you are outs...
