“Best Church we visited”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

St.George's Basilica is situated in a beautiful square just off the main market in Victoria. The square itself is a great place to stop at a cafe, where you can admire the Basilica. The church itself is very ornate and a wonderful place to look round (should note, knees and shoulders should be covered when in the church which a lot of tourists had to be politely reminded - though the attendants hand out shawls if you need one).

“Very impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2014

The Basilica has limited opening hours and is closed from 12.30 to 2.30pm. However, it is well worth a visit. It is dedicated to St George and as we visited during his festival, there were masses of lit candles on the floor in front of his statue - a beautiful sight. The volunteer guides are very helpful and there is a deeply calm, spiritual feeling there. It is a very good place to sit awhile and feed the soul.

“Beautiful Baroque with interesting history.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2014

We went to the mass here which allowed us to contemplate the beauty of this baroque style 17c church in the middle of Victoria. It is cradled by narrow streets and in front of it it has two statues, one of them of John Paul II . The bronze door has his coat of arms as well. Do not miss the organ gallery and interesting paintings. The ceiling of the basilica is well worth neck flexing. The basilica hosts many cultural events mid June till mid July during The Victoria International Arts Festival.
