“Been there many times, will definitely return”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We've been visiting Cornucopia Hotel on and off for the last 11 years and it is always a very enjoyable experience. Although this review is posted just as we ended our most recent stay, it reflects all previous visits as well.

Many positives for this hotel - location, pools (3), jacuzzi, excellent dining. But for us it is the staff that wins top prize. Everyone makes you feel at home. It's a nice feeling when most staff members recognise you from previous visits considering the large amount of guests they have. On the last day of our visit we asked for a late check out. We were allowed to keep the room till evening which was great! (Thanks Brian) We decided to have dinner at the hotel before leaving. If you have kids and want to relax, then this is the place for you. Again thanks to all the staff - Brian, Alan, Joshua, Maria and all the others for making our 6 day break a very nice experience. You'll see us again :)

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights and although we enjoyed our stay with out a car it was a difficult venue. A bus was available from the small town close by but the service tended to stop early and taxis can be quite pricey to get around. The rooms are a bit dated but clean with a landing outside with table setting to sit at, also two lovely pools to relax by. We booked a driver to take us around the island and the girl at reception begrudgingly called him for us when we decided to change our pick up time given we changed our mind twice as we were enjoying our pool time and hotel lunch so did not believe it to be a huge ask.
Gozo is a lovely island and well worth the visit.

Room Tip: We had a standard room without a view which was fine.

And a very pleasant ten nights too. Firstly lets say this is a very charming, rustic hotel, built around a 300 odd year old farmhouse with some more modern extensions built, but all kept in character. In a terrific location overlooking the valley below and on the outskirts of Xaghra but only a few minutes walk to the village square where it all happens. As soon as you walk through the gates off the street you are instantly transported back into a peaceful quietness that time has forgotten. I agree with a comment below that this is probably more of a good 3 star than the advertised 4, and in our room (51)one could say it looked a bit tired and dated but this did not detract from our holiday there at all. I'm sure, if one wanted, one could photograph a broken shelf or a bit of mould around the grouting and complain how it spoilt the whole of their holiday if they wanted to. Our room was basic and offered the bare necessities although the fridge was handy. The (noisy) air con wasn't as cold as it could/should be but the ceiling fan was a preferred method of keeping cool anyway.
We were B&B (as we like to try local eateries) and the breakfast gave a varied choice. From a fry up to the continental cuisine with the various hams and cheeses or cereals, fruit juices and fresh fruit, toasts, coffeee and tea there was something for everyone. We had planned to eat in the excellent restaurant but as it happens we just never got around to it. The A la carte menu looked inviting but we were a bit put off by the price of the Friday night BBQ. A lot of effort and work went into the evening and a nice band playing a wide mixture of music is provided but we still thought a tad under 25 euro pp a bit steep.
There are two pools, both immaculately clean and cared for, the lower one in the courtyard, retaining the charm of the place and the upper pool area, more modern with a childrens pool and a (noisy) jacuzzi. Ample sunbeds are provided and there was never a problem in finding one. Still didn't stop some people from reserving them before breakfast (and no, they weren't German).
The bar and bar lounge had a big wow factor for us. The olde world charm retained here and the drinks prices very palatable too. Downside? Finding a barman. Sometimes it was like Where's Wally and I feel that they were understaffed there. Certainly expecting them to serve poolside drinks and then the afternoon snacks meant there could be a long wait for drinks. This was not acceptable for a hotel of this standing in my opinion. Whilst I'm having a gripe I also was disappointed that WiFi was restricted to the reception areas and that to have WiFi in the rooms was an extra 3 Euros. Not quite sure what you got for the 3 euro but c'mon. I've paid to be a guest in the hotel so provide the WiFi for the hotel.
The hotel is pretty well situated for visiting all parts of the island, and is only a moderate ten minute walk to the village square which is where we spent every evening for our meals. For the cost of a taxi from Malta Airport here and the return journey we opted to pay a little extra and hired a car for the ten days of our stay. We thought it well worth it. Yes there is a hop on hop off tour bus but it isn't exactly that frequent and the car gave us a lot of freedom not to mention saving time other wise hanging around for busses or taxis.
If I were too return to Gozo, I would certainly consider this hotel again and happily recommend it to all who want that bit of peacefulness, and charm.

We have just got back from spending a seven night family holiday at this hotel.
We booked two bedrooms (each with two people in) and the hotel were excellent in arranging these to be adjacent and both rooms had a generous sized balcony overlooking the stunning pool.(see picture)

The rooms were always cleaned to a high standard and were fully air conditioned. Very much appreciated! There was also a good amount of storage space.
We felt the hotel fulfilled the 'Oasis of calm' nature that was described on its website. Staff were very friendly and happy to help with our individual requirements.
The breakfast was generous- plenty of choice from fresh fruit to a cooked breakfast and a selection of coffees. Perfect start to the day.
In terms of the pool area this hotel has 3 pools plus a Jacuzzi. We mostly used the Jacuzzi which was refreshing. Although we did hear some reports of the Jacuzzi being temperamental-we found it worked fine and used it to cool down in every day of our stay.
Both pools were lit up in the evening which created a nice atmosphere.

We also enjoyed the barbeque night (held every Friday at the hotel) which brought a relaxed and celebratory feel to the end of our holiday. There was a great range of food and the live band were brilliant.

One of the best things about this hotel is its location. It is sign posted from quite a distance away. Although we hired a car, the hotel is only a fifteen minute walk away from the central square in Xaghra, which has charming cafe's, a church and local events going on. This makes Cornucopia stand out amongst other hotels on Gozo as it has a handy central location.

Overall we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. We'd recommend it-its no wonder other guests we spoke to said they come back year on year. Staying here certainly made our first family trip to Gozo and Malta a memorable holiday, and we look forward to returning one day.

Just returned from 2 weeks self catering. As stated by other reviewers, the accommodation is not 4* by UK standards, more like 3*. Bungalow was very spacious with adequate facilities for cooking. Very comfy bed and the whole bungalow had air conditioning and ceiling fans. We had a large patio with chairs, table and loungers with a pretty 'garden' providing some welcome shade. A pool was next to our bungalow, which although was very convenient, could also be quite noisy at times and also reduced our privacy. Having said that most of the time we had the pool to ourselves and it was very peaceful. A bungalow on a higher level would probably have better views of the valley leading to Ramla bay and would possibly be quieter (furniture being moved in the bungalow above was quite noisy at times!). Brian the manager was extremely helpful as were all his staff, nothing was too much trouble. Cleaning staff were also brilliant, they cleaned everyday. Buses were really good, very punctual but not very frequent and at 6.50 Euros per week were excellent value. We hired a car for 2 days but it's not essential to get around the island. All in all we had a lovely two weeks and would recommend the Cornucopia bungalows.

Room Tip: Higher bungalows probably have better views and more accessible.

Searching on internet she choose cornucopia and we didn't regret it. excellent service from all staff, good food, comfortable rooms, and wonderful views We go in the pool as we step out the farm house. As it was our first time in a farmhouse we like it. Hope this will not be the last time. Thank you all. We recommend it to our friends.

We stayed for 5 nights in a bungalow at Cornucopia Hotel. Idyllic surroundings, incredible views, easy to reach other parts of Gozo. Privacy and exclusivity of the bungalow within easy reach of hotel services.

Room Tip: I would recommend a bungalow for a family
