“Lovely spacious apartment with roof terrace in charming fishing village”
Reviewed 5 August 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We had previously stayed at the ground floor apartment in this block of 3 (the middle one is where one of the owners lives). That was a 2 bedrooned plus sofa bed and this time we needed a three bedroomed, so being really happy with our previous stay, we were glad to see the owners also had a three bedroomed 2nd floor apartment.
We hired a car from Malta airport and it's only a short drive, 15 mins or so, to the apartment. We were offered to be greeted at the airport, but declined as we knew where we were going. Instead we were greeted at the apartment and taken up to the 2nd floor. Having no lift, I couldn't recommend this for those with serious mobility issues, but our party (2 x nearly 70 year olds, a 46 year old with a dodgy knee and a 15 year old) found the stairs easy to ascend even with our cases/shopping. They are not particularly steep.
The apartment itself is lovely, In a similar modern decor to the ground floor one. It is a bit lighter, being higher up and having a beautiful large window/juliet balcony overlooking, well nothing other than fields! It's a pleasing aspect and allows you to get a lovely blast of air when opened wide.
The kitchen is open plan, very modern. Then there is a large table for eating at, with views through the large window, and a sofa. The sofa is large but if there were 6 adults it might be a bit cosy - we often preferred to sit at the table in any case. There is a TV and wifi provided. At one stage the wifi dropped when we were there but the owner soon came out to reset the router and we had no more issues. There are two standard bedrooms and one master. One of the standard bedrooms only had a fan but the others had air con. i understand there may be plans to add air con to that third bedroom and if so that would be much better for the hotter periods. This apartment is built to remain fairly cool in any case. The master bedroom is really nice - one thing I noted is that there were a lot of wardrobe space for a hioliday apartment AND a lot of coathangers - bliss!
One bonus about the 2nd floor apartment is that one can exit and go up one firther flight of stairs to a roof terrace. As it was April, we didn't use it, but with the same view across the fields, it would be really nice.
Marsaxlokk is a beautiful fishing village. We could have stayed in as the apartment had all the equipment required for cooking and entertaining, but we were often out an about visiting the places of interest in Malta (see the UNESCO Heritage site of Valletta, the amazing hilltop town of Mdina (and visit the catacombs), go to Sliema for bars, cafes and shops, the blue grotto for a boat trip and get the ferry to Gozo for the day if you can. Birgu has plenty of character, a recently refurbished Fort and an opportunity to see the amazing yachts docked along the marina there. When we were less active, we would stroll down to the promenade of Marsaxlokk where there are loads of restaurants and the picturesque square with a beautiful church overlooking the bay with all the traditional Maltese boats in it. There is also a really good Sunday Market. Even our 15 year old loved it.
Anyway, we did feel really at home here (as we did when we vistied Encanto on the ground floor) and we have booked again to return in September!
I would recommend this apartment to anyone. Locationwise, it's great to be in a quiet residential area, only a short walk down to the promenade. It's also nice to know that the owner is nearby (not only one in the apartment below, but 2nd owner just a short drive away, owners parents also available we found). So these people are always contactable and willing to help with anything extra that is required.
