I was really looking forward to the visit of Mdina Cathedral as I like going to churches and cathedrals because fo their unique and tranquil atmosphere. However, and this is something I really do not understand, the cathedral is only opened from 3 pm to 5pm! At the time when I was there (at about 10 am or so), the mass was in progress so they also didn´t let me in.
So the only thing I can rate, unfortunately, is the exterior which is rather usual but worth taking a picture.

In the 'silent city'Mdina you find a beautiful cathedral, that we visited without having to go through the museum, or having to buy a ticket. Maybe it was because we were there 'off season', this january 2014.
It's a very beautiful church, lots of ornaments and decorations. Also many chandeliers, not the crystal cut type, but glass ones from Murano, Italy, with coloured glass details.
The gravestones are flat and inlaid with various coloured stones, like 'Pietra Dura'.
Well worth a visit.
The style in which the cathedral is built is found all over Malta, the last church being built in this style is about 50 years old!

This is truly a beautiful cathedral in the gorgeous old city of Mdina.
It's a shame you have to go through the museum to visit the cathedral, but its worth paying the couple of Euros for the museum just for the cathedral visit.

A stunning architectural example both inside and out. Particularly interesting are the many burial memorials on the floor. The museum is also outstanding, especially the the coin collection which provides compact evidence of the wide ranging influences on Malta's development since the invention of coins in the 6th century B.C.. A "must see" in stunning Mdina.
