This hotel was a replacement which I chose due to seeing the reviews of original hotel we were booked in at Bugibba. So glad I did,
Hotel was right on Sea Front and although we had a side sea view from the balcony it was fine as we were not in the room much to look at view. We were also not too far back from the front of the hotel.
We were just on B&B package as we prefer to just eat out when we want. Breakfast was good although couple of mornings sausages were getting a bit cold by the time we got there but plenty of choice.
Hotel room was clean and serviced every day with tea / coffee facilities in room and a fridge for your water or juice etc.
This hotel is on the other side of Sliema from the ferries to Valetta but buses are regular if you do not want to walk along the waterfront which is a good 20 mins. Tip instead of bus to Valetta go to Sliema ferries and grab a water taxi 1.5 euro each for 5 min ride to Valetta instead of 40 min bus ride. Although water taxi means it is all uphill walk in Valetta but very pleasant.
Plenty of bars / restaurants nearby and lovely walk along the waterfront all the way to St Julyans as well.
The beach at Sliema is not sandy but rocks where everyone sunbathes with steps or slope walkways into water every so far along the way. The Diplomat has a rooftop pool which we used a couple of days with sunbeds free of charge.
Hop on hop off tour buses are regular with prices 12 or 15 euros one for north of Island, 1 for South but we hired a car for a day and found great beach Gjejna Bay nice and sandy.
All in all great holiday, nice hotel and lovely island. Would definitely go back

Room Tip: even with a side sea view from balcony as long as only about 3 deep up the side street it is fine

worst hotel ever! after 2 nights in room 213 had to request to be moved as could not sleep with construction work going on outside. beds wobble so much its like sleeping on a tub of jelly. More 2 star than 4 star. We were moved to room 704 - tiny tv and volume did not work - at this stage didn't even bother to complain. Breakfast was awful. Only redeeming feature was the pleasant helpful staff. Near enough for travelling to other areas by bus - believe me you will want to travel in order to keep away from the hotel. Nearest nice beach was about 40 minutes on bus - meelhia -nice sandy shallow water beach for poor swimmers. Hotel was such a disappointment it ruined our holiday.

Room Tip: Make sure if you do choose this hotel to ensure you get a sea view room and not a side view. Room 21...

For the price, I thought this was excellent. Clean Room, decent hot shower, friendly staff, great breakfasts( Not just the continental Cheese & ham, but bacon & eggs etc) . Location was perfect as it is not in the loud centres. Aircon worked. I will stay here again when I next go diving in Malta

I have stayed at the Diplomat for the last 4 years and have never been disappointed. The rooms are clean and have everything you need. The breakfast is the best I have encountered with everything to cover all tastes. The staff are helpful and friendly and I couldn't recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: Rooms to the side near the back are the quietest but still have sea views, rooms at the front have t...

Stayed here with my husband and had booked a room with a side seaview and a double bed. Got a room ( 417 ) no seaview or double bed. Instead it looked onto other buildings that were under re-construction. Room was quite modern but as we were here for 9 days I requested to be moved. Lady in Sales office agreed to move us but could not until the fri so we spent 3 days being woken at 6.30am when the workers started. We were upgraded to bb and moved to room 704 which was the1st side seaview room. Air con very noisy and broke on 2nd day. Was promptly attended to and was given a fan also. Not impressed when I found a cockroach in the bathroom on one occasion. Other than all this the staff are all lovely. Especially Magda at reception and Aaron and Stefan who looked after the cafe on the roof terrace. Pool small but has a jacuzzi at one end. Bar staff all very friendly and all the staff are very helpful. Best room to book is the front seaview as all the other rooms have no view of the sea unless they are very near the front of the side of hotel. Best thing about hotel is the staff

We have just returned from a trip to Malta and stayed at the Diplomat hotel. For the price it is a perfectly fine hotel. No, you're not going to get a luxury 5 star room, but if you want that go and pay 3 times the price somewhere else. The staff were pleasant, and as several others have pointed out already, especially Magda on reception who was very helpful with advice on places to go and how to get there, i.e. which buses to get and where to get them.
The location is excellent, right by the beach front, and we spent many a night sitting outside having a drink in the still warm air watching the throngs of people walking beachside.
The pool was also fine, and the bar up by the pool was Ok.
The room was adequate, only upsetting point was the fact that we had 2 single beds pushed together, this isn't really suitable for a couple and surely the Diplomat could purchase more double beds?
All in all, we had a wonderful holiday and the Diplomat helped us with that. You could do a lot worse then stay here if you are looking for a cheap, perfectly located hotel for your holiday.

We stayed for 5 nights and the Diplomat is ideally located on Sliema seafront, a short walk to many bars and restaurants.

The buffet breakfast was adequate, though they clearly hope you won't over-indulge as the plates are small! However, the cooked food was hot and tasty and the staff were friendly. We did not eat dinner in the hotel so cannot comment.

Our room had a small balcony with a side sea view, but that should not be your reason for staying as it was more a glimpse than a view. The room was very comfortable, with plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and good-sized en-suite. The essential air conditioning did it's job and although it seemed quite loud, did not disturb us in any way.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the Diplomat and worked like a dream with no irritating "drop out" spots.

Brits were a little in the minority, German being the predominant nation represented by the guests at the time we were there.

The Diplomat represents good value for money on a bed & breakfast basis and I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: If you really enjoy a sea view, request a room on the front.
