We stayed in July and had a corner double room with partial sea view which was ok & we could see a bit of the sea. The room was spacious with a comfortable double bed but definitely not a UK standard 4* room or hotel. The hotel decor is very dated & not much character. I would rate it more a functional 3* hotel.
We were woken every morning at around 7:30am - 8am by the sound of beds being moved on the tile floor upstairs by the chambermaid, very annoying when one wants a lie in.
Location of the hotel is good with a bus stop outside and regular busses. It is also just a 10-15 mins walk to the ferry port, town centre and St Julian's bay.
There is an adequate roof top pool with nice views & a bar/cafe serving salads & fried junk food. We only used the pool once in the 4 days we stayed at the hotel. There is also a very basic gym & sauna.

We didn't spend much time at the hotel other than for sleeping and breakfast (pretty good) mainly because we were a bit disappointed with the hotel and because we wanted to sightsee quite a lot in the short time we had.
If/when we visit Malta again we will pick a better quality hotel & will not stay at the Diplomat.

the hotel was basic would not say a 4 star bedroom was ok bathroom was good though. the location of this hotel is great for everything eating, sightseeing and shopping. we didnt spend much time in the hotel was just somewhere to sleep. breakfast was really good. we werent told that the hotel was saga though so not much socialising going on. Gorgeous walk back to the hotel along the rocks by the sea after our evening out.

Room tip: try to get one at the front of the hotel i wish we had.

The Diplomat Hotel is fine in most regards without excelling in any one area. Staff were friendly, there were decent facilities and the rooms were clean and functional. The biggest gripe we had was the almost daily failure to provide two sets of clean towels meaning we had to ask for them repeatedly at reception.

Location-wise, the hotel is well placed for reaching the capital Valletta by a cheap and quick ferry service and by local bus services. There's also lots of restaurants and bars nearby, shops and places to book excursions etc.

Overall, the place feels a past is best before date with a sense of faded quality about it.
They do provided a good cooked buffet breakfast though!

Room tip: Side rooms face another building with quite limited sea views.

My partner and i stayed for a long weekend to attend a friends wedding.
This hotel was situated perfectly.
We regularly visit Malta and are familiar with the various districts so sliema was a great place to stay. It's right on the beach front, perfect bus routes and taxis are reasonable to visit various areas.
Nice pool set on the top floor.
Rooms were lovely and clean.
Breakfast buffet was nice, staff were very efficient.
The lobby was well kept and staff were friendly.
One thing which bothered us was that there was no actual luggage room for after checkout. Just an area to store the luggage which was accessible to all.
That said, we'd happily stay again.

When we arrived at the hotel, they said they had no room for us - what a suprise :-( After a while, they decided to drive us to another hotel nearby (Park hotel). Unfortunately the receptionists there told us they had a room just for three nights and then we would have to move again to the Diplomat hotel - unbelievable! We refused to agree with such a stupid suggestion and insisted on being accommodated for the whole stay (7 nights) in one hotel (either Park or Diplomat). The receptionists spoke to each other in Maltese language, ignoring us, they let us waiting there for two hours making phone calls and talking to other guests. After we urged them, they offered us accommodation just for one night and to move back to Diplomat hotel in the morning what we finally agreed and did. At the Diplomat hotel they pretended everything was OK, smiling silly and even did not offer us any compensation for those complications :-( When the travel guide came, she dealt with them and they finally agreed to give us compensation 30 euro which was really little considering we had booked for seaview room and we did not get it! Also, air conditioning was quite noisy in comparison with Park hotel. What we enjoyed was very good choice of nice food, free wi-fi, cleanliness of our room and very good live music in the evenings. The beach is really strange and messy with difficult access into the sea.

Room tip: The best are seaview rooms on the top floors.
