We booked the Round Malta cruise before we left the UK. The minibus picked us up from our hotel, which was great, but then spent ages going what seemed like halfway around the island picking up others!
When we got to Sliema we were told that, because of the weather, it wouldn't be a Round Malta cruise, rather it would be a cruise to Comino and then possibly a bit of Gozo on the way back - somewhat disappointing, as one of the main reasons I booked the cruise was to see the south of the island where we were not going to go on land (as it were). They said it was too choppy, but it seems that, reading other reviews here, this is pretty standard practice for this trip.
The boat was not overly busy, we got seats easily on the upper deck by the rail and we braved the wind on the way to Comino and enjoyed the sights. We got to Comino about 11:30, and they started serving lunch (a bit early for my liking). The queueing system was idiosyncratic (you had to go outside and come back in again), but worked well and ensured no-one could cut in. The lunch, we thought, was really rather good. Cold meats, salad, pasta salad, tuna, ratatouille and some slightly flabby beetroot from the buffet (which was actually three crew dishing it up, but they were friendly and cheerful). There was then plenty of bread, apples for dessert and what appeared to be 'drink as much as you like' red wine, white wine and orange juice. The white wine was nice and refreshing.
We stayed rather too long, in our view, on Comino - the boat didn't leave until 3:15, but we had a good walk and took lots of pics! We then went along the south coast of Gozo for about 15 minutes before heading back the way we had come.
Can't really comment on the return journey, as we both had a snooze!
All in all, this was a good day out, but I reckon we could've done more or less the same thing if we had booked a 'Comino' cruise and paid a bit less.
