“Brilliant hotel, staff, location...will definitely be back again!”
Reviewed 14 June 2011

After just arriving back to the UK from my holiday in Malta, I had to write this review immediately as I cannot praise this hotel enough. My mum and I stayed here for seven nights on a bed and breakfast basis. After staying in a different hotel in Sliema last year, which wasn't pleasant at all, the Preluna was a major step up. The breakfast was lovely with a huge selection, including platters of fresh watermelon, about six different cereals, boiled, scrambled, poached and fried eggs, two types of bacon, about four types of bread and three types of yoghurt, along with a large fruit bowl.

The facilities, layout and decor of the hotel is tasteful and modern and we were lucky enough to score a sea view room. I know other reviewers have expressed that the rooms are "outdated", however, as a 19 year old student, I feel like our room couldn't of been any more modern! It was spacious, clean, had all of the appropriate facilities and I was especially impressed with the free wifi in the room and the LCD TV.

Our room looked over the adjacent building works across from the hotel, and I can honestly say that it was not a problem at all! The builders started work at about 7:30am and finished at about 17:00pm, which wasn't a problem. The sun terrace did look over the building works however the noise (when machinery was operated) could be blocked out with an iPod.

After coming down to reception at 3:15am this morning to go to the airport, there was a cart full of orange juice, tea, coffee, croissants and a basket of fruit awaiting, which was provided for the guests who were travelling at such an early time, which I was very impressed at. The night staff who were on duty were also so pleasant, amusing us with funny stories that had occurred in the hotel in the past, and then shaking our hands as we left to board the coach to the airport.

After a brilliant stay, I honestly cannot fault this hotel. Even though I did stay in the Towers with my mum, I did not have a look at the hotel part of the building, referred to as the "old" part, therefore I cannot comment on that part of the hotel. I can safely say that I will have no problem travelling by myself next year, if i choose to, as I know that I will be safe at the Preluna and that my needs would be in the safe hands of the staff there.

Thank you to all of the staff at the Preluna for making the much needed holiday to Malta so enjoyable and comfortable for my mum and I! :) :)

My friend and I stayed at this hotel (all inclusive) in may for 3 nights. The first impression was 'Ok'. We went to our seaview room (view nice). It was very windy and there was a 2 inch gap down the side of our balcony doors and the wind was whistling thro it so loud. When you opened the doors the ceiling tiles lifted in the room!! the rest of the hotel was windy too..there seemed to be gaps everywhere. Lunch on the first day was disappointing to say the least. We did'nt bother with dinner that night. breakfast was ok and lunch the 2nd day was bit more edible. again, we didnt bother with dinner. We were then both sick all night and could hear other guests being sick in other rooms!!! when speaking to other guests the next morning, we heard numerous accounts of the same thing happening to them. We made a complaint and was told there was "gastric flu" going around???? we didnt eat there anymore and my friend was ill for nearly a week afterwards and we are claiming compensation. The bar staff were miserable (apart from one lovely man who served us up on the terrace) and you had to ring from a phone to get any service away from the main bar. i would not recommend this hotel and it is certainly not a 4 star.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

The Management regrets once again to note that you were subject to a virus which caused discomfort. However as stated in other previous replies the cause of the illness cannot and should not be attributed to the hotel as has been witnessed and confirmed by doctors who were called in to visit various clients during the same few days. The virus was attributed to a 24 hour viral gastritis which is not contracted by food or drink. As a matter of fact several locals that never set foot in the hotel contracted the same virus during the same period. These clients are asking for a compensation which they will not receive for the simple reason that the hotel had nothing to do with their misfortune. Please also note that the hotel keeps regular checks on health safety by an independent specialised firm. As it happens such checks were made immediately and the hotel also asked for a check by the local haealth authorities and in both instances the hotel was cleared.

The reputation of our hotel that has been operating for four decades and receiving hundreds of return visitors every year sums up the high esteem that visitors have for our establishment.

I am quite fussy about hotels and I can honestly say that we love this hotel. This will be our fifth stay at the Preluna, it is a lovely hotel, good food, helpful staff and ideally located in the centre of a lovely seaside town, can’t wait to return there at the end of the month.

Just returned from a week at the Preluna and our first trip to Malta.
We have to admit that our air con didnt work and it took 24 hours for the staff to agree with us but when they accepted defeat the staff were very hospitable and our new room had a working air con system, phewww!!!
Cleanliness isnt the prelunas best point where the bedrooms are concerned. Both rooms were a little grubby but very comfortable.
The reception area was ok but the seats near the bar need changing or at least a clean.
Only one more problem.... the wine wasnt brilliant, but then Im just fussy!
No more negatives so now for the good points.
Great food, always hot and fresh. The restaurant staff were excellent, who did their best in often challenging circumstances, replenishing and cleaning up for some really quite rude and miserable guests. We enjoyed the buffet style food and found a good choice on every occasion and the view over the sea front from the restaurant was lovely.
The bar staff were friendly and helpful and served you with a smile and a chat, providing they had time.
The gym and indoor pool was well organised and a nice place to chill and relax. We never used the outdoor facilities so cant really comment on that.
Malta was great and we enjoyed the whole experience, the beeping horns of erratic mad drivers, the old cars, the relaxed way of life and the ease of getting around, even if on busy buses. A bad side of Malta............ the building that is happening everywhere!
We will go back to preluna with or without the improvements as the good points far out way the bad. A clean and spruce up is all that's needed.

Room Tip: Higher floor would be quieter.

This hotel is not a 4 star hotel! The facilities are new and very nice but the rooms are just awful, they are shabby and not very clean. All reception areas are very dark and dismal and the air conditioning is virtually non existent. Most of the reception staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. We went for our 25th wedding anniversary and my husband tried to arrange for some wine and flowers for our room, but we never received them. The lifts are horrendous, they have 2 small lifts serving 13 floors which were constantly breaking down. Beware, they have time share lets in this hotel and there are people who literally hi-jack you when you leave the hotel. Louis deserves an Oscar for his performance in procuring people. I think that is why they give you an awful room so it makes the time share ones look even more inviting. We hired a car to explore the island but it is not necessary as the buses and sightseeing buses are excellent. The City Sightseeing tour is very good value for money it includes a boat trip around the harbours too. The roads do not have any names like A roads or M roads which makes the map very hard to follow and you have to rely on sign posts which are scarce and confusing. The car drivers are very erratic and blast their hooters for everything. There are some lovely places but they do not compensate for the poor hotel and time share salesman that hijacked us for half a day of our holiday. Oh and the car parks I think should be free but someone takes it on their self to take 1 Euro per day. Good Luck.

Room Tip: Go for a higher star hotel.

We arrived at this hotel at about 11am and unfortunately were not able to get into our room until 2pm. The reception staff not very welcoming. The outdoor pool (across the road) was empty when we got there as they were cleaning it out. Sunbathing by the pool was spoilt by getting kicked out of the area at 5pm as they lock the area up.

On a positive note the hotel was very clean and comfortable. We opted for a sea view room and were so glad theat we did as there was building work going on at the rear of the hotel which we heard guests complaining about. The indoor pool area is lovely and relaxing.

We only ate breakfast a t the hotel and it was fine, nothing to write home about. It is a cold and hot buffet.

Sliema is undergoing a lot of development and there are cranes everywhere! For nice restaurants go left out of the hotel to St Julians as there are some lovely restaurants there.
