“Good value for package trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2013

We booked a package trip through Thomas cook and feel the standard was as expected. Our room was to the back of the hotel with no balcony as you had to pay extra for this. The view was very poor, just rooftops of nearby properties although we were quite happy with this as did not spend much time in the room. We had friends with a sea view/balcony room and they had alot of trouble with road noise. If we wanted to sit outside in the evening we just went up to the sky bar. the room was basic. There was a small fridge which was useful for drinks we bought from a local supermarket (to save on buying from the hotel). The hairdryer in the room was impossible to use though! It was screwed down in one of the drawers and you had to pull quite hard in the cable to raise it above your head to dry your hair if you wanted to do this standing up. Would have been better on the wall or with a longer cable. Bathroom was good. Full size bath and powerful shower. Breakfast was good but very busy, I guess just a consequence of a large hotel with a slightly too small breakfast room - not really their fault. The wide selection of food was replaced quickly and never ran out. You just had to be a little patient with other guests when going up to the buffet.
Pool was good. Towels and sun loungers always available. Little hot tub on the roof if you wanted a change, but difficult to get any service up there so we used to take drinks or go down to the bar to buy more.

Room Tip: Higher floors if you have a balcony to reduce road noise. Rooms at the back are nice and quiet (and...

we booked a 2 week stay where we had stayed last year. We found the standard of food had deteriorated considerably. While the general facilities were 4 star there was much that was not. The beds are a wooden frame with a solid ply base and poor worn out mattresses. The handling and presentation of food, particularly at breakfast, was very poor. While ther I was taken to hospital and my wife spent 6 days in our room with a stomach bug. Although the hotel knew I had been taken to hospital and that my wife was ill they made no attempt to contact us. We called the doctor that the hotel said we should and for a 3 minute visit he charged 60 euros. later when I called another doctor recommended by a friend he only charged 20 euros for amuch more professional visit. This indicates to me that the hotel should look at who they recommend. Generally a big disappointment for a 4 star hotel which did not come up to standard, I would say the food and the beds and also the air conditioning system which only blew hot air make many parts of this hotel only worthy of 2 star. Try the Fortina instead, much better.

Room Tip: seaview essential tower is probably better than main.

Dear Guest,

We are sorry that our Hotel did not meet your personal standards. The food served in the Triton restaurant is usually praised by our guests, however we are sorry that it did not live up to your expectations.

We hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday in Malta!

Kind regards,

...but no 4 stars.
The rooms are brown and gloomy, very basic and our room at 12th floor was in need of an update.
Breakfast was ok, had something to suit most people.
Keep in mind that on the 13th floor is the "sky room" (which has the appearance of a passengerboat to Finland), it can be disburbing when people move furniture around or when the music entertainment is on. However, they usally stops at 11 pm or something.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
We did not try the spa facilities.
The location is very good though :) We will come back, mainly because of the location and service.

We have stayed at the preluna hotel 5 or 6 times now and have just returned. On one previous occasion we tried a different hotel but very quickly transferred. The staff are always friendly, efficient and welcoming and the food is as good as any we have had anywhere on Malta. The facilities are very good, rooms are clean and comfortable and we would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: The room you choose depends on the amount you want to pay. The only time we had problems was when t...

Read the good and bad reviews and will try to be fair and not picky. This hotel is not four star quality. The price is fair and the location is very good, handy for buses and on the sea front. We got a family room, refurbished and very pleasant and new. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of room for four adults. No sea view from family rooms and in our room, which was situated on the left hand side of the hotel, very close to the hotel next door. So close that we were facing the balconies of the Park Hotel, so not at all private. The sky bar lacks any kind of atmosphere - a large room with a few tables and a lovely view. We stayed for a quiz night and after ordering drinks from the bar, the bar man, who was standing doing absolutely nothing, shouted for me to come and get my drinks tray-we were all of two steps away but he didn't feel it was necessary to carry the drinks to our table. The roof top terrace is appalling - a broken table, a mixture of old and new sun beds and no cleaning up from the day before. Used a coffee machine as snack service finishes at 3 pm, our coin got stuck (or machine empty) and when we phoned down from 13th floor to inform reception, we were told to come down and get it. An ice machine in the bar is a great idea, as is Express breakfast in the Piazza bar, although we noticed our used dishes were still on the table 20 minutes later and the bar man was standing doing nothing. I could go on and although these are small complaints, they stop this hotel from being a good four star hotel. The staff are in need of training I think. A couple of the older staff were very helpful on the whole but there are a lot of younger staff who do not appear to know how to act towards guests. A greeting at breakfast, a helpful attitude from reception when needed, a willingness to sort out a problem for guests - this is what one would expect from a good hotel, whatever the rating. It is a great shame because once all refurbishment is finished, this could be a great hotel.

Room Tip: The sea view I think but a lot of front facing rooms suffer from disruption from on going building w...

Malta, what a fantastic place to visit, we arrived here three days ago and haven't stopped smiling, the weather, albeit a tad mild for this time of year with tops if around 26 degrees (C) is wonderful, the food has been unreal, fresh and very moorish, and the locals are so freindly abd gelpful, but the thing that has won us over is the water, so clear that it is hypnotic.
The Preluna is situated is a fantastic location and right in the waterfront, the room we ate I has been fully renovated, however, some of the other rooms that we have seen (tower1) are well due to be done.
The food we've had (in the hotel) has been so-so with breakfast being the highlight.
My recommendation would be to have room and breakfast only and take the time to venture out and try some of the many local restaurants in the area.

All in all, a pretty good place to base yourself for a stay in Malta, and one thing is for sure, we'll be back :)

Gary
