“Well below standard of other hotels”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2014

The locations and views were excellent, but the hotel desperately needs a face lift inside and out, not that t his could improve the food which was bland and uninviting.Every day the breakfast was very cold without exception. The meals were the cheapest ingrediants they could lay their hands on and the menu was repeated the second week we were there. The tables at breakfast were hardly ever cleared in time for more guests to eat, and the waiting staff were lazy clearing one plate at a time when the table in question was piled high with dirty dishes. The rooms were very old fashioned and lighting the rooms was awful no way could you read a book in there as all the light s were up lighters with pearl affect shades. The so called wardrobe had door that we couldn't close and very few coat hangers . and the noise from other guests was unacceptable with televisions up high so we could listen to theirs without ours on. We spoke to reception about this but nothing changed. By the way the cooks and not chefs were very rude and we found out were swearing in maltese to us guests. The hotel deffinately does not c ater for children and young people . Sorry to say would not stay here again nothing wrong with Malta just this hotel.

Room Tip: do not have room at the back of the hotel there no outlook and very noisy

We stayed at the Preluna in late January 2014 for a week in a 12th floor room. The room was a good size clean and well presented with access to wifi, in room tea and coffee making and a stunning view. I'm sure it will be even better after refurbing like the other rooms on the floor which were in process while we were staying. This didn't disturb us at all even though they were working on the adjacent room. The staff were excellent and responded quickly and professionally to any requests . I used the hotel pool which was small and a bit hot but as good as most hotel pools I've used. Malta's excellent and cheap public buses are a great way to explore the islands and the bus stops outside the hotel give access to several parts.

Room Tip: A room in the main block is best and the higher the better

I have stayed many times at the Preluna, the most recent being this January.
From when you check in at reception the attitude of ALL staff is very pleasant, courteous and helpful.
A good place to plan your itinerary is the spacious lounge with it's comfortable seating.
There is entertainment every night, mostly in the Skyroom which has amazing views over Malta.
A designated person is around most evenings to answer questions and problems that any guests may have and is very efficient.
Another bonus is because of the location buses stop near the hotel to take you to most parts of the island.
I would recommend a stay at the Preluna any time of year and in fact am on verge of booking my second stay of 2014 and the year has only just begun!

This hotel is a simple three star+ hotel, nothing more. Location is good, staff is friendly. Rooms are spacious but terribly outdated. Food, although occasionaly quite fresh, is cantina and mass-production style. The hotel is swamped with elderly people, so be ready to be gazed at when you are -35 ... Not a luxurious hotel, not prestigious, nothing fancy. You sleep, you eat. Easy and simple.

We love this hotel - my mum comes for a long stay in December/January and we have a few short breaks along the way! We recently returned from a three day visit for our Wedding Anniversary and from the minute we walked into Reception, we were made to feel extremely welcome - from the restaurant staff, Tony and Vince in the Piazza Bar and every other member of staff whom we came into contact with! Most of them seemed to know it was our Anniversary (as we had also spent our Honeymoon here) and went out of their way with their good wishes. We had our usual room, which has just been refurbished - however - one little niggle is that the drawers have been taken away and there is no drawer space! It didnt really matter to us but for people staying for a while, it might prove to be a problem. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were thoroughly gloomy when we had to leave! However, we will be back!

Room Tip: We always stay on the 7th floor in the Tower Block.

The Preluna Hotel was ok when we finally got a decent room. Our original room looked out onto two blocks of apartments which were very close to our rooms balcony. From the balcony we looked out onto the rusty air con units and washing on the other blocks of apartments. We booked through Mercury Travel. Mercury's rep was a very volatile person when I asked him a simple question. He followed me into the dining room on our last day and wouldn't let me eat my lunch. He kept on ranting and raving at me over a question I had asked him 4 days earlier. Mercury have not responded in a concerned way over their reps behaviour, which I thought they would have done.good. Please be warned that the Hotel is on the main road and can be very noisy at peak traffic times if you have booked a sea facing room. The buses make a lot of noise as they go by.The Hotels swimming pools are across the main road from the Hotel. The area around the outdoor pool is not very big, we only used it once because of that. We still would recommend this Hotel for it's position, quality of food and it's staff despite our travel companies problems.

Room Tip: Don't necessary take the room you are allocated, if you do not like it or, if it is not what you...

This was my 2nd time in the Preluna what an absolute disappointment. The standards from September 2012 had decreased significantly. One of the main reasons for returning was that I was impressed by the quality and range of food as a vegetarian which is often hard to find. However, the quality of food was poor, temperature of food was below average just look warm on most occasions. The chicken that a family member was served was raw this was reported to hotel staff and guest relations the comments were noted but the same occurred on several occasions.

Head waiter was observed to have dropped cutlery and picked it up from the floor and placed it back on the table also there were spillages on the floor which staff were aware of and ignored safety hazard.

We encountered a problem with shattering glass on our balcony it took three attempts to receive staff assistance and housekeeping did not clear all the glass having to be asked to return.

I am a regular visitor to malta 5th visit and the location is very close to bus stops for travelling around the island and while I appreciate a 4* in malta is not of the same standard as the uk basic hygiene, food standards and intervention from staff were lacking.

Unfortunately I was unhappy with the service and overall hotel standards and would advice anyone to choose an alternative hotel which is less costly don't waste your money. This hotel is overpriced and not worth the money.
