“Had a great time at the Preluna”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

Just returned from a month stay at the Preluna and had a great time. The hotel was in a good location for exploring the island. A bus stop was just outside with regular buses into Valletta and also buses direct to other parts of the island. It was a nice walk one way into St Julians and the other way round to Sliema and the ferries. The hotel staff were mostly very friendly and helpful, thanks to Martin behind the bar for his excellent service. We had a room at the back of the hotel and it wasn't a good outlook but the room was a good size, clean with comfortable beds but next time would pay extra for a sea view. We had the all inclusive option and the food and drinks were excellent. Lots of choice with plenty of fresh fruit and veg, meat, fish, pasta. All of good quality, well cooked and tasty. There was good entertainment on 3 nights a week and a quiz one night but the rest of the time a pianist played in the bar. We thought they could have done a bit better with the entertainment. There was a sun terrace on the roof with loungers and chairs and there was a private beach club on the sea front but it was closed while we were there. I would have liked a bit more outside space where you could sit and have a drink outside in the fresh air. That said I am looking forward to doing a month at the Preluna next year. Many thanks to all the staff for a great time.

We have been coming to Malta for Many year's, and now we always come back to the preluna because we are assured of good food friendly and courteous staff who are always ready to help in any situation. The hotel is in the process of refurbishment but is endevouring not to inconvenience the cliental. Well done Preluna we are having another great stay with you. Thanks to all the staff.

I will be commenting on the hotel in another review but I feel the afternoon tea was far the worst I have seen. The sandwiches you could not call finger but more door steps. Some still had bits of crust on them. I did wonder what you would get for 4 euros. I would prefer to pay more and have a proper afternoon tea. The hotel should remove this service because it doesn't put the hotel in good light.I would suggest the hotel sent the management to a hotel to be shown what an afternoon tea is. It is a wrong move doing these things on the cheap it doesn't work.Afternoon tea consists of finger sandwiches with fillings consisting of cucumber only ham and English mustard, tomato and cheese followed by fruit cake and pastries with tea. This will be more then 4 euros but an enjoyable and tasty tea.

Just got back from the preluna hotel, 18th February 2014 Hotel, and breakfast & evening meals are very good, couldnt fault it. However there are lots of adverts around the hotel for afternoon tea, that say a choice of sandwiches, and a selection of London teas. We walked through the lounge a few times and saw people having it, it looked nice, so on the Sunday afternoon of 16th Feb, we ask for the afternoon tea, they did not ask us what choice of sandwiches we wanted, instead we got 4 large finger sandwiches, of tomato & gerkin spread with mustard, (they looked a mess) just ploncked on the plate, plus 2 very dry pieces of cake, & 2 small eclairs, & 1 tea bag in each cup. I complained to the restaurant superviser, and all he offered was a cup of tea, next day I spoke to the duty manager,he said he will get back to me, I ask for my money back. but nothing happened, I didnt get it before we had to come home. Had lovely weather, for a weeks break, with a friend though, on the 7th floor, room was great.

Room Tip: higher floors seem less noise, we had a side room, with sun all afternoon, a big balcony.

My wife and I stayed here as well as some friends for 5 nights in September 2013 and loved it. The hotel is in a good location very close to transport and cafes, restaurants etc, The views from our rooms were sensational and the apartments were nice and clean. Had the breakfast daily and it was pretty good with a bit of variety, seemed to be mainly geared up for the British tourist as they are everywhere (don't blame them as Malta is beautiful). The staff were lovely and very accommodating.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with ocean view.

We have been at the Preluna for a week and despite the dodgy entertainment are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food..
We eat out a lot and are quite fussy about our food but have always found something we like,in particular Sunday lunch is exceptional and not to be missed.
Our sea view room is great , a good size room and balcony, and clean. Whist it is not ultra modern or luxurious the furnishings are acceptable and in good order.

Room Tip: We asked for a high floor to get a better view.

We stayed here for ten days at the end of January and were given a sea view room on the
second floor of the main block. The view was lovely and well worth the supplement. Despite being close to the busy coast road noise was not a problem because the windows were double glazed. In summer I would insist on a higher floor as the noise from people on the promenade and the traffic could be a nuisance.

The room was bright, large and comfortably furnished though dated. The cleaning however was very superficial. Crumbs on the floor remained for ten days as well as marks on the windows and door. The beds were comfortable and the linen and towels changed regularly.
Tea/coffeee making facilities were provided and a small fridge was useful for keeping fresh milk and cold drinks. The lighting in the room was very poor making it impossible to read in bed
.
The dining room appeared more like a school canteen with tables set out in long rows down one side and crowded together at the other. Although we had no problem finding a table even
at busy times the room became very crowded and uncomfortable with people squeezing between tables to get the food. Breakfast had an excellent choice of cereals, hot food, cheese, cold meats, pastries and fruit BUT the coffee was awful.Surely a four star hotel should provide
freshly ground coffee at breakfast and butter. The dinners were generally of a high standard with a good choice of fish, meat and pasta dishes. The roast meats at the carvery and the salads were especially good. The house wine was cheap and ok but bottled water expensive. Generally the service was good especially from the younger waiters at dinner.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Preluna but with more attention to detail it could be a very good hotel

GW

Room Tip: Well worth paying extra for a sea view preferably on a high floor
