“Good base for exploring Malta with nice amenities”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

I recently stayed at the Preluna for a long weekend and stayed on the 9th floor where it was rather quiet and didn't hear any noise from the main road or the outdoor bars situated across the street on the lungomare. The room was in very good condition, the bed was comfortable, and there was A/C plus a ceiling fan to properly cool down the room. The staff at the hotel was very cordial and helpful in providing information on traveling around Malta by public transport as well as giving some recommendations about restaurants in the surrounding area. Its in good location for exploring the island. There is a bus stop for the local public transport and also for the hop-on/hop-off tours for those who wish for a more structured way of visiting the main sights. I also made use of the outdoor pool and sun chairs located across the street from the hotel. At the same location where the pool is, they offer an outdoor bar, and you can organize various water activities like diving, or jet ski rentals. Overall, I was very pleased with my selection of the Preluna after reading a few reviews where some guests had unpleasant stays prior to my booking.

Room Tip: I had a room on the 9th floor and didn't hear any of road noise during the night as some reviews...

The location is great a short walk to the ferry's on Sliema sea front, Loads of restaurants serving all kinds of food on the doorstep.
Near to a large new shopping complex. Loads of buses serve the area and stop in front of the hotel. The staff are friendly and accommodating.
The rooms are Ok in need of an update as are the common areas.
The roof terrace is a great place to chill out and has excellent views- although again the furnishings& décor have seen better days.
Only ate breakfast - usual large hotel self service- loads of choice, quality average.
Fridge in room broke and had to get a replacement- no problem.
There is evening entertainment if you don't want to go out although it appears to be a person singing in the roof top bar.
There are activities such as 'a taste of Malta allowing you to sample & buy local products- food, crafts.
Do not believe this is higher than 3 star but the main selling point it is on the sea front (just cross the street) transport links are excellent, Buses & taxi rank outside hotel door.Local restaurants are good. There is a couple of super markets, banks, a chemist and takeaways 5 minutes walk away.
Has a beach club across the road- usually very busy.
Local area is busy -especially in the night due to local bars/restaurants etc.
would I stay here again? - possibly but would try to stay in a different location just for a change as stayed in this area the last 2 years.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up as the street is noisy at night, maybe not the top if it is in the block unde...

Have just returned after a week in the Preluna all-inclusive. Our seafront room was large and comfortable and we were put on a high floor which we had requested. It was nicely maintained by the maid and the free use of the fridge was a bonus. The Beach Club across the road was always packed which was disappointing although the cafe supplied a good choice of drinks and food. The inside pool was nice but the lighting was dull and dingy and not as portrayed in their promotional video in Reception.
The free wi-fi was inadequate and very slow and did not work in our room.
The food, however, was very good with an extensive choice. One of the Chefs though was very grumpy and rude which surprised us. Another problem was that in spite of a dress code there were still fat men turning up for dinner wearing beach shorts and vest T-shirts. This alone was enough to put us off from returning to the Preluna. Dining room over crowded at popular times.
The only other problem we found was that there was no bar service in the only outside space in the actual Hotel. Therefore we felt that the A/I was somewhat restricted. As referred to by previous reviewers the Hotel did look tired and could do with some "uplifting". We do have mixed feelings and don't feel that we would return.
Must say that the Reception Staff were all friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: pay extra for a sew view room on the front of the Hotel. Well worth it.

This was our first visit to Malta. We weren't sure whether to stay in Valetta or Sliema. We opted for Sliema in the end....to be honest it would have been better to stay in Valetta. I think as a base that would have been the best option and would have been better to just walk out of a hotel in to Valetta at night than having to get the foot ferry across. Will know next time.

The hotel was ok, neither goor or bad...just ok really. Staff were friendly enough on the whole although the barman did tend to be verging on the edge of being obtuse and rude but never enough to push too far. Restaurant was ok, but did seem rushed and couldn't really relax in there. Waiting staff were far to eager to claen up the tables. On two occasions we went to the buffet bars to get food only to return to find our table had been cleared and new cutlery put down.

The swimming pool is across the road and a short walk. It does need a lick of paint and a make over. I think this was about to commence.

If I had a gripe it relates to the 'all inclusive' package. It isn't that inclusive as it only offers certain items on the 2 attached sushi and Italian restaurants and beverage in the restaurant is for the house wines only and certain beers. Food was good, plenty of it and good variety every day.

Also one of my irritations relates to TV channels.....only English option was news channels...lots of German and Italian channels...but that seems the case in most hotels in Europe anyway.

In summary.....nice average hotel...more three star than four......would I stay there again.....not really.

I was a bit worried when I got this hotel via Expedia secret hotels due to the missed reviews on trip advisor but boy, was I pleasantly surprised. Went to Malta in May 2014 for the weekend and i have to admit I was impressed with the hotel and its amenities. Staff were very helpful and polite, By luck got a room on the 10th Floor (initially given 5th floor but room was not ready) which had the partial sea view. A Definite plus was the sky lounge on the 13th floor with live music with a view of the ocean was amazing, danced till late.....

The indoor Spa, with pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room was a joy to be in (although the gym windows staring directly at the pool was a bit odd). The outdoor pool on the other side of the road with a standard pool looked really nice, didn't have enough time to hang out there. very impressed with the fact they have an additional ocean pool for those who want to swim in the ocean waters in safety of four walls.

Hotel also has good access routes with a bus stop almost opposite the hotel with buses to St. Julian's, and other places. plenty to do around the hotel and lots of restaurants around. i have to admit that for my first visit to Malta and for a weekend visit, Sliema and Preluna had more than enough for me to do.

if in Malta again, will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best view.

We stayed at the preluna for a week and it was a trip of mixd emotions.
The good: location- it is in an amazing location. The bus stop is right outside the hotel with buses running all over the island so it's easy to explore. Plus it's right on the sea from so the views are amazing.

The pool area- a deep pool and access onto the rocks so you can jump right into the sea and do some snorkeling!

The service- the staff were incredible! So friendly and helpful, this trip really would not have been the same without them. We really couldn't have faulted the staff at all.

The bad:
The hotel overall- the hotel is dated and the furnishings a little battered and old. The whole hotel could do with a facelift and a good touch of paint. The elevators were a pain in the neck, really slow, hot and always crammed full of people. Not that it is the fault of the hotel but as a young couple we really noticed that this hotel was FULL of old people. In an evening it often felt like we were sitting in a retirement home I wouldn't mention it normally but it was very noticible, loads of people with wheelchairs, Zimmer frames and walking sticks.

Our room- we had an inward facing room so although we didn't have any of the street news we also had no view apart from other people houses. Our room was one of the newer ones. We had wooden floors which was much nicety than the tired old carpet I saw in a few of the other rooms. The room was fine overall as long as you didn't look to closely at appliances or fixings and fittings. When we did look closer we noticed that the whole room was poorly finished. The air conditioning was mediocre and unless you stood right under the AC you didn't feel the benefit of it. We started turning the fan on in the end but I have never heard a louder fan in my whole life so there were a few nights that we had to choose between being hot or sleeping. We spent as little time in the room as possible.

The all inclusive package- what all inclusive package????? It is limited to one restaurant even though the hotel brochures state it has 3 ( it does but only the tuition buffet restaurant is in the all inclusive). The food was pretty good on most days, there was only one evening which I thought the food was bad. The problem is that it's is dead or full to bursting and you have to wait an age behind some old dude taking half a lifetime to decide between the 2 or 3 options given. At every mealtime it felt like feeding time at the old folks home, no vibe or atmosphere at all. We did make a huge effort to be nice to the dining staff and for the most part the older waiters were very good and nice to us but the younger serving staff walked around like they had better things to do and were usually short with us and not all that professional. We spent a good part of the time that we actually did spent at the hotel at the bar next to the lobby as it did have an ok selection of cocktails and drinks. The highlight of our time at the hotel was Anthony at the bar, he was fantastic! We got our money's worth purely from the AI package at the bar which was limited but was nice.

The entertainment was a bit hit and miss, one one night we had a guy with his guitar and singing and that was amazing but the rest if it was just okay. Again it's like bingo at the old folks home.

If we had to come back to Malta we would stay here again as it is brilliantly located and was adequate for what we wanted.
