“But what a view!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2012

The view from our 5th floor balcony was amazing and we loved its central location. Otherwise our bedroom and balcony were tiny, with a ridiculously huge bathroom and a leaky shower curtain. There was nowhere to put our toiletries and very little room in the bedroom for belongings. We had only one pillow and one towel each. However, aircon and security box were free.

Excellent breakfast in a bright room on the top floor with amazing views. The rooftop pool was small with no shade or parasols available. There is no lounge or bar in the hotel, but you can use the internet for a small charge.

There are buses up and down the coast from outside (bus stop “Exiles”) and we even travelled to the airport by bus. Please buy a day bus pass (week pass 12E) as it is far better value. You may need to go via Valletta for some destinations. Peppes across the road with its amazing cakes and views excellent as always. The little rocky beach area just outside the hotel was nice. It is always such a joy to walk along the Sliema "prom".

Any questions, give us a shout. Cath & Kev

We stayed at this hotel in July 2012. We had room on the 4th room with sea view! Was great!! Every morning you wake up with a nice sea view. The rooms had double glazed windows wich made it quite. Rooms were neat and tidy. Breakfast was good too, served on the 6th floor with nice views too. Reception staff are polite and helpfull, especially Natala/natasha, which made our stay even better. Next door restaurant had nice pasta and pizza too!
As hotel located in between St Juliens and Sliema, you can walk to both sides easily!

Room Tip: I would sugest room with a sea view.

the hotel is on the Sliema waterfront, within walking distance from St. Julien and lots of restaurants and bars. It also has a very nice sea view and nearby the bus stop. The rooms are small, with a small balcony, the breakfast was poor. You only get one towel per person and if you want to use the safe and the tv you must leave a €10 deposit. The hotel is fairly clean and the staff is nice. It is also very cheap, I guess you get what you pay for. In the end, I would not stay here again, unless I get a very cheap rate.

Room Tip: get a sea view

We booked two short stays here in the middle of the Maltese Summer, which were separated by a week elsewhere.

The first few days was reasonable. The hotel is well located, and that's it's strong point. The rooms are basic - you get a bed and a bathroom. Anything else is charged as an extra. It's relatively expensive compared to hotels of similar standard because of its location to St. Julians and Paceville. It's reasonably clean, although the rooms, furnishings, and fittings are quite old.

Sea view rooms are well worth the small premium.

Consequently, this hotel is also popular with students and backpackers, who tend to be travellers out to have a party and bring their noise with them. You're a little insulated on the upper floors of the building, but not by much.

Front desk staff were highly variable - there were some downright rude staff, and one great and very helpful one.

Given it's popularity, I suspect what the hotel does is that it overbooks its rooms, and the people whom they make the least profit from are relocated to spare unsold rooms elsewhere.

This happened to several other travellers whilst we had our first stay there. Upon leaving, we checked to make sure our second booking for the following week (which we had made in January) was still active - which it was. When we arrived, we were greeted with "There is a problem with your room..." and an offer to relocate us elsewhere.

When we initially refused, we were offered a lower grade room, with no refund or compensation. The duty manager continued to try to persuade us to take another room, with inducements like "it's a four star hotel, with a swimming pool and breakfast."

I contacted a few other local hotels, and the problem with the European summer is that there were no rooms available in similarly located hotels.

Given no choice, we indicated that we would see what the hotel they were offering was like. The duty manager "called a taxi," which, after waiting half an hour, turned out to be a private vehicle driven by a man who did not speak any English - thankfully my partner spoke Maltese.

The replacement hotel I will review separately, but the issues we had were that it was nowhere near as well located, and the only rooms they had left smelled of cigarette smoke. We were left with no choice but to accept what we were given.

Frankly, the service offered by this hotel is atrocious, and you may well end up being stranded without a room. We lost two hours of time which threw out our plans for the afternoon and evening.

Our advice is to avoid it if being relocated to another hotel is a problem.

Room Tip: Avoid in peak season if you don't want to waste time being relocated elsewhere.

Hotel is located near the coast and only little sand beach in the area. St. Julian is a short walk away down the Promenade. Bus stop is just across the road and you can reach most parts of the island this way. There are many restaurants and bars nearby. View from dining area is amazing, overlooking the bay.

Nothing you will get here is exceptional, but you cannot expect more for this price. We did not have any major complaints. Room and bathroom were clean, air conditioning was working well and there was free wi-fi access everywhere. Breakfast was decent. I must praise the service which was excellent, all of the employees we met were very friendly and helpful.

Cons are really tiny swimming pool (use this if you need to relax in the sun, it's not crowded) and lack of fridge in rooms (as tap water is not safe for drinking this is a must. you can buy cold drinks near the reception though). Another thing I didn't like is that our sheets were not changed during our 7 day stay which is not good in Malta's humid and hot climate.

I had booked this hotel to stop with friends for my Hen party at the end of June 2012, after reading reviews I thought we would get good value for money as I chose somewhere that would suit everyones budget. I thought as it was only for 3 nights, as long as it was clean, everything else would go un-noticed. I had booked it back in February, I had even emailed the hotel direct to ask questions and Natalia on the reception was very helpful.

Arriving after a late flight (around 9.30pm) we were told they had maintenance problems and could not offer us our rooms, we had booked 4 twin rooms and she told us they only has us down for 2 rooms, luckily my paperwork showed the 4 rooms. Reception told us they were moving us to another hotel. After reading reviews about this happening to others, my heart sank but we were sent to the Marina Hotel, I was a bit disappointed as I had wanted something that was nearer to St Julians but also Sliema, which is why I chose this hotel & the Marina is much more in Sliema overlooking Valletta.

The reception arranged a car to take us all to the new hotel, which we had to have two trips for and the driver was very rude, didnt even get out of car to open boot and tried to tell us he was doing us a favour taking us to our new location, which we had to reply that it shouldnt be happening in the first place!

I am actually glad we were moved as I preferred the new location, nearer the shops, lovely views and restaurants. We had a stroll around the promenade and had a nice meal at the restaurant that was opposite the Carlton Hotel one night and we all came to the conclusion we had the better hotel in the end.

Room Tip: Dont stop!
