“Very Enjoyable Stay in Victoria”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

Our party of 5 people found our stay in the Victoria to be an excellent hotel experience. We agree, however, with some of the criticisms read previously but overall this did not detract from our enjoyment to any significant degree.
The Reception Staff were excellent - from Check-in to Check-out, under the watchful eye of Charles - we feel he really deserves every plaudit from other reviews and his international reputation just grows.
OK the decor is not up to the sleek contemporary lines of the more recent 5*Palace (particularly in en-suites) but the housekeeping staff maintain the rooms in spotless condition. We were a little surprised though to pay €2 per day to make use of the room safe - usually included in the room rate.
Breakfast was fine - with a couple of caveats. The coffee we found to be not to our liking and the juice machine dispensed a strange watery juice on at least two days. Unusually for me I began to avoid both - sticking to Tea ! I prefer fried eggs but fried eggs are alternated with scrambled eggs (which I do not like). Could both options not be available daily ?
We ate in the atmospheric TemptAsian (on the 7th floor of Palace Hotel) on our arrival and found the food to be excellent - but the setting even better. We had an external table in the balmy night air with a view of floodlit Valetta highlighted by bursts of fireworks. Just magical ! So enjoyable we repeated the experience on our final night and had a great night yet again. Highly recommended.
We used the wonderful rooftop infinity pool every day and even though it is not very large - it never felt crowded. This pool is available to residents of both the Victoria and The Palace - so you manage to use 5* facilities for 4* prices when staying in the Victoria.
The Penny Black bar/lounge in the Victoria was closed for most of our stay but we made good use of the small external courtyard of the Tabloid Restaurant & Bar, again with great staff. We enjoyed drinks with Management in the Tabloid one evening - a nice gesture.
In summary staying in the Victoria was a pleasure - with relatively minor issues not so good. As stated in other reviews the Staff (and Management) could teach others a lesson in making your Guests feel comfortabl and welcome. Interlocking with the stylish Palace gives Victoria another dimension and provides a substantial added value to the experience.
Would we recommend this hotel to a friend - ABSOLUTELY
Would we stay here again - CERTAINLY
(in both cases hoping for improved coffee and fruit juice)

Room Tip: A room on the upper floors would probably be preferable.

For our third visit to Malta, Maltese friends recommended the Victoria. Their plan had been to have a family party at another hotel in Sliema and so being resident here would have been convenient. Why stay here, 1) the car park. This hotel's USP; with other hotels you are in a competition with other hotel's guests and of course local residents. Then you have to learn how to get in and out of the town. However, Charles, at front desk, will guide you with that. 2) having sorted the car every other feature of the hotel, excellent staff, food and accommodation. It is fair to say some rooms are tired and in need of a refresh but we only slept in ours and every night we had a good sleep. The air-con greatly supported this. Breakfast provided the usual fare, unfortunately for the hotel due to personal commitments we ate out a lot during our stay. When we ate in the hotel, the restaurant provided some great food and our young son was delighted with the room service we also chose one night. The roof terrace is a pleasant place to end a day. One improvement we would welcome would be wifi throughout the hotel though Eurosport channel did also entertain our son. Looking forward to coming back since nothing is too much trouble.

We spent a week at this hotel we had a most wonderful stay, opted to stay at this hotel as it was central to the whole of Sliema . the hotel staff could not do enough for us, Special mention to Charles Portelli and all reception staff, We had a problem with noise coming from the indoor pool which was being upgraded, this was no problem we were immediately upgraded to the wonderful Palazzo Capua next door. Fabulous place, beautifully restored building, suite was excellent and terrace was quiet and relaxing.Although no sea view, amenities and view from roof made up for it. Stayed half board. Food was very good and varied Staff at Copperfields also gave an excellent service.
Dined at the Temptasian restaurant on the roof, food and service was excellent. The hotel even made a cake for my 60th Birthday.
Again a special mention to Charles, long may you reign. This will always now be our hotel of choice, looking forward to returning next year.

Wonderful hotel in an excellent location, quiet yet only 5 minutes walk to the sea, shops, bars and restaurants. The roof terrace restaurant, serving Asian fusion cuisine is superb and has the most incredible views over Malta - very romantic! The staff are extremely professional, friendly, chatty and kind and made a huge effort to ensure we had the perfect stay. The hotel shop is really worth a visit to chat with Kathleen, a lovely girl who gave us loads of tips about things to do in Malta. Definitely can recommend the hotel 100% and really look forward to returning.

Another two week visit at The Victoria over. What has changed since our last visit in March? Well the indoor pool is being upgraded/refurbished and will not be available for use until September. Not a problem as the two outdoor pools are available. We will see how it looks in November.
The manager (Kevin Callus) also intends starting as soon as practical refurbishing the bedrooms and bathrooms. The bathrooms particularly in some rooms are in need of this work and I am sure they will look wonderful when done. The logistics of carrying out this work must be a nightmare to arrange as a whole floor will need to be closed as you cannot have guests and workmen who will be removing baths etc in the same area. Difficult work to arrange for a hotel that is very well occupied throughout the year.
Everything else is the same - very good and varied selection of food at breakfast and dinner. The same wonderful staff that cannot do enough to make your stay at The Victoria as enjoyable as possible.

Have just returned from our second visit to the Victoria Hotel and again can only praise the hotel for its excellent service and fantastic staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. We stayed on a Bed and Breakfast basis and found a wonderful restaurant called Cardini on the sea front just a few minutes walk from the hotel. This restaurant offers great food and is reasonably priced. The hotels central location is excellent for getting around the island and if you don't mind mixing with the locals the bus service is both cheap and reliable. My husband and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and all being well we will be staying there again next year.

Just come home after our third trip to The Victoria. It really is a lovely hotel with fantastic staff, nothing is too much trouble. The Front office manager Charles is a brilliant ambassador for the hotel. We have always had a lovely room, very clean and comforable and spent some very enjoyable evenings at the bar on the roof terrace which has fantastic views over Malta and towards Valletta. Really convenient for the town centre and buses and ferries to all the different parts of Malta. Will definitely be visiting again.

Room Tip: The rooms 08 to 24 have lovely views of the Villa next door
