“Wonderful service - old fashioned virtues of style and friendliness”
Reviewed 21 February 2010

Located within easy reach of the waterfront - with access to buses & ferries to Valetta, along with all the bars & reataurants that Silema has.

The hotel epitomises the old fashioned virtues of style and great service - ALL of the staff are cheerful and friendly! We were even asked for our review by the manager of the hotel on our last day! One of our areas for improvement was the breakfast - it needed fresh coffe and fruit and a revamping of how it was all laid out - but I'd fully expect them to take that onboard and fix that quickly & simply.

Its clearly a hotel that looks and feels a little old fashioned, with lots of wood everywhere & with its "gentlemean's club" style bar downstarirs - but don't let any of this put you off! Its clean and friendly.

Also included in the package we bought was a set of massages, facials etc from the team on the 8th floor - who were fantastic! Friendly, efficient and very professional about all that they did. A couple of hours massage after breakfast .............. what a way to unwind and relax!!

There is an indoor pool - small, but ok to get the wrinkles out and a steam and sauna. Both of these are pretty small - and the steam room needs to simply be hotter and deliver more steam. But another nice place to relax in a warm, bright and airy room.

We had a great time and were made to feel very weclome - highly recommend for a relaxing break.

I was very impressed upon entering the hotel, both by the fairly grand, gentleman's club feel of the reception, and also by the excellent welcome, which would prove representative of the friendliness of the staff throughout my stay at The Victoria. The hotel's name is also its theme, so stay here if you find a bit of 'old world' wood more comfortable than the chic modernity of The Palace hotel next door.

I deducted a mark from the Room score due to lack of internet access, and from Sleep Quality because the bed, though large, was two singles rather than a double, and sleeping near the join is always uncomfortable. The location is fine, but nothing is on the doorstep, so to speak, and anyone traveling with a pram, wheelchair or a pregnancy will want to consider the 6/7 minute climb back up to the hotel from either the seafront or bus stop. There's a handy supermarket two minutes round the corner, although this is as overpriced as the rest of Malta.

These faults would have brought the overall rating down to 4 stars, but I had to deduct another for the restaurant. The buffet breakfast selection was a little limited - with bizarre items like sweetcorn regularly taking the place of Full Monty staples like mushrooms or grilled tomatoes. But the buffet dinner carries a serious word of warning to any vegetarians or muslims, since the labeling is very unclear, and the Maltese love pork, so even the tomato soup is, incredibly, made with bacon in the stock.

The spa-like leisure facilities were excellent, with the rooftop pool, indoor pool, and gym area all very well presented. Sadly though, the 'business centre' equivalent was laughable, being a single laptop in the bar, access to which is charged per quarter of an hour. For a hotel promoting itself to business travelers, this is unacceptable. Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a clean, quality hotel with a few faults, and one that I would happily recommend to others.

The Victoria is a good base to explore from, being just a few minutes from the waterfront and all public transport. The hotel is clean, has good facilities, pleasant and courteous staff, and the breakfasts are great.

My girlfriend stayed at The Victoria recently - Jan 2010 - and totally loved the experience! We were there for 5 days on B&B basis and everything went perfectly smoothly... it was an absolute treat for us. The room was great, service impeccable, food delicious. I wouldn't hesitate one second to recommend The Victoria to anyone.

I found this hotel to be of a high standard. The staff are excellent and the facilities are a welcome bonus. The indoor pool / spa was very clean and inviting, and the cleanliness of the rooms could not be faulted. All in all great value, however travellers should note that the hotel is situated on a hill. If you have difficulty in walking then this hotel may not be suitable. I did not eat in the hotel, however the restaurant looked busy during the evening meal which is always a good sign. One last tip, the hotel will arrange to pick you up from the airport. Its always nice to know someone is meeting you.
