“Good Value”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2011

We booked this hotel via easyjet holidays; this was excellent value at £150pp for a 3 night B&B break inc flights. The hotel is in the centre of Sliema (which isn't a great resort), but is well placed to get to other places in malta. A very nice 45 min walk into St Julians (out of hotel go left to the seafront, turn left and keep going). For Valletta left out of hotel to the seafront and then right, keep going through the shops down to the waterfront and you will see the blue ferry for Valletta E1.50 each way and takes just a few minutes). Restaurants in Sliema, good prices, good /ok food and poor service. None to recommend.
Park Hotel - ok breakfast; ok choice; greasy fried eggs yuk, but good scrambled and boiled. fresh fruit is just whole apples and oranges and cut up grapefruits. Rubbish toaster as per most other hotels and a crap coffee / tea machine! Staff very quick at replenishment when things run out though. Nice staff on reception, but don't know much about the area. provided maps on request though. Room was fine -no problems at all and lots of hot water. Only downside was building work up the road, so if you are at the front you will get early morning noise - not hotels fault though.
All in all a good value place, but no return visit for us to Sliema. Must see - Valletta, Mdina nd Mosta Dome. Craft Village neasr Mdina is worth a look as is Rabat and catacombs.
Red wine is pretty grim, white is fine (La Valletta) and most beer seems to be cans rather than draft. All reasonably priced as is food.
Taxi from airport E20.

You will be better off buying a tent and a camping cooker and staying on the sea front. You will sleep better not be subjected to the poor service and the food you cook from a camping cooker will be for more edible.

I am not a moaner or a doom merchant just honest and expect at least the basics to met when I am staying in a hotel. Do your self a favour and book a different hotel.

There's a huge offer of hotels in Malta. This hotel is fine, but I would go somewhere else next time.
Location: it's a few meters off the main beach-front road in Sliema. It's near the sea, within walking distance to Sliema's center, and near a busy road to catch buses or cabs. Sliema is of no great tourist interest so you'll end up heading somewhere else every day. Try to stay in Valletta or nearby. it's also better for transportation.
Facilities: The building is OK, though a bit old. The rooms look old too and things tend to not work. I had trouble with the phone, the toilet water reservoir, the and heating system. It could be cleaner too. The shared facilities are not inviting, as they're usually infested with noisy young students, including the tiny pool in the basement. The elevators need urgent repair.
Breakfast: it's good, with lots of things to choose from. Not the best quality, but variety compensates for that (hot food, fruit, cheeses, cake, etc.).
Staff: They're friendly and try to help, but sometimes they don't seem to know how to help. For example if you pay for wi-fi, You need to start and end your session to keep the credit. Nobody could explain how to close the session, and my credit was used up. They gave me more credit, after speaking to the supplier company, but still they didn't learn how to tell guests how to close their Internet session. They can arrangefor a taxi to pick you up to the airport for 20 euros!

This is NOT a 4* star hotel and do not be fooled by the Park Hotel's own website. The pictures on there are extremely flattering and probably taken about 30 years ago. It is run down and dirty. The electrics in the bedrooms cut out frequently and I was concerned this could have been a safety hazard. The sheets on the bed had holes in. Tea and coffee facilities were provided but without any tea/coffee/milk.

There were also school groups of teenagers staying there making it feel more like a youth hostel than a hotel. It was noisy due to building work immediately opposite
and work was also being carried out in the rooftop pool area.

The food in the restaurant was appalling, absolutely sub-standard. A
selection of stale bread along with bruised apples and oranges which weren't
fresh was served every day. The evening meal consisted of the same stale
bread from breakfast time to go with tasteless soup. There was usually a
selection of unappetising grey fish or 'battered' meat, along with tinned
carrots and recycled rubbery potatoes that appeared to have been reheated
and re-served. The choice was minimal and was far inferior to any other
continental hotel I have stayed in before. I also have serious doubts about
the hygiene in the kitchen and the food service area.

I would not recommend it unless you only do B and B, get it very cheap and have absolutely no expectations. I paid a lot for it and had been told it was a 4* and liked the look of the website so I was very disappointed!

Ignore the earlier and unjustifiably critical earlier reports, we have just spent a week there (in Room 225) and consider that the hotel gives very good value for money, which for two pensioners is of utmost importance. Okay, the four-star classification may wll be a trifle ambitious but then the room charges are in no way those you would expect to pay for a four star hotel (the earlier review which quoted a neighbouring hotel as being "much better" failed to mention that their charges are commensurately higher). For your money at the Park Hotel, you get to stay in a more than reasonably attractive building, in rooms that (if our experience is the norm) are well cleaned and provided with fresh towels each day, have tea-making facilities (if there are no teabags etc on your arrival as in our case, a simple request produced an immediate response), and a television with a minimum of three English speaking channels. The showers were clean, the water piping hot, the beds were comfortable if a little on the hard side and the air-conditioning/heating effective. Extra blankets were provided within minutes of a request to room service. Free top-rated films or European Cup football matches were shown each night in the bar and bar drinks prices were more than reasonable. Breakfast options were extensive with cereals, yoghurt, bacon (and there is nothing wrong with maltese bacon!), sausage, tomato, egg (both scrambled and boiled) and a full range of cold meats, cheese etc if you wished to go 'continental'. The normal price for the evening 'buffet dinner' was 13 euros per head but, if the half board option was taken (as we did) the charge was 42 euros per person for a week, working out at 6 euros per meal. The food was understandably not 'cordon bleu' but to have your choice of soup, pasta, a full range of cold meats and salads, three different main courses which changed each night, a choice of vegetables (which were unfortunately the most disappointing part of the meal), four or five desserts, fruit and cheese and biscuits and unlimited amounts of any or indeed all for 6 euros is undeniably exceedingly good value. My partners birthday fell during our stay and, this fact having been conveyed to the manager, a birthday cake complete with sparklers was presented to her on the appropriate evening, free of charge. As regards location etc, the hotel is two minutes from Sliema Promenade where English papers are available (Daily Mail 1.80 euros), four minutes from the nearest bus stop and ten to twelve minutes walk from Sliema Ferries. Would we return to the Park Hotel, yes we would. Would we recommend it to a friend, yes we would though making clear that it does have certain limitations which are out-weighed by its good points. All in all, we were more than happy with our choice.

If this had been advertised as a 2 star hotel I would have been slightly disappointed due to the lack of cleanliness but to call it a 4 star is a massive joke! The rest of our family stayed in the Fortina Hotel which was also a 4 star hotel but even that hotel would be a 3 star in most countries and that was a far superior hotel to the park hotel. It’s desperately in a need of a deep clean and a renovation. When we got there the lock on the balcony door was broken, so we reported this but nothing was ever done. There was a kettle but no tea and coffee, the carpet in the corridors went from deep blue in the edges to black in the middle where it was well trodden.

Stayed here with a group of 14 other people for what was my Sisters Wedding. Thankfully, She and her Husband to be were in a different property "The Westin Dragonara" (A fabulous but obvoiusly higher market hotel).
We had booked through an agent in Ireland called "Sunway Travel". The hotel was billed as one of Malta's finest. The truth however couldnt of been furthur away.
The rooms are extremely basic, small, and not very clean. My parents room had flys in the shower basin. My room had what appeared to be blood on the shower curtin. The toilet had used loo roll in it when we walked in an it appeared the room hadnt be cleaned properly at all as there were stains on the bed clothes.
Upon complaining we were moved to a superior suite. Superior in the battlegrounds of WW2 perhaps but not modern day Western Europe. There was a rooftop pool advertised which was not open. The indoor pool was too cold to get into. My Sister heard from a member of the wedding party that we were being mistreated and understandably she was upset as she booked the Hotel. It nearly ruined what was to be the best week of her life.

Worse again. The morning of the Wedding in Valletta, the Groom was getting ready in the Park Hotel in order to keep tradition of not seeing bride. While he was getting ready the cleaner insisted on servicing the room while he and my Brothers were getting ready. She brushed of him as he was going out the door and destroyed his suit with makeup. You can imagine the fun while as we had to send my Sister round the block in her horse and carriage as My Girlfriend was frantically trying to get the makeup stain out with soda water kindly provided by a local shopkeeper. It would of been a tough one trying to explain that one to her. We were able to laugh afterwards because it was such a beautiful day and an amazing Island. I could go on and on but Im not going to on this one because it makes me so mad. Avoid at all costs.
