“Good location for visiting Valetta”
Reviewed 12 September 2012

After being dropped off at the wrong hotel, not the fault of the hotel obviously, but as it is adjacent to the 4* Hotel Fortina make sure the taxi driver knows which one you want, we were given an absolutely HUGE room with a great view across the harbour to Valletta and the biggest bed I have ever slept on. The buffet breakfast was very nice with plenty of variety but could have been a little hotter as it tended to get on the cold side before you had finished and I'm not a particularly slow eater. The hotel is situated a short walk from the Valletta ferry and the centre of Sliema and is also right next door to the brand new Tigne point shopping mall which we found very useful. A slightly negative point is that this hotel is advertised as being child free but there were several there during our stay luckily they were mostly well behaved and did not present a problem.
Staff were all very polite and helpful, our maid even went to the trouble of locating some peppermint tea for my wife as we had forgotten to bring some with us. We visited during a bit of a heat wave even by Maltese standards but the air con coped very well so our room was always comfortable. Didn't use the spa facilities so cannot really comment on those. Although there was a very nice outdoor pool in the hotel we also had use of the harbour side pool of the hotel next door which could be quite crowded at times, but was great for sunbathing and there were always plenty of sun loungers available.

This was our first visit to the 'Fortina Spa Resort' in Sliema and we originally booked a 7th floor Tower Garden Room which was slightly disappointing as it was a bit tired and not a great view. We were however fortunate to upgrade to a Spa Room (garden view) for an additional surcharge and I have to say it was one of the best rooms I have ever stayed in my life (Room 247).
Besides a wonderful bedroom (suite style) with settee and chairs, a desk and fridge, it had the most amazing bathroom I have ever seen. Besides a jacuzzi spa bath , therapy chamber and steam / shower room it was one of the best equiped facilities I have ever used. The bedroom also had a new 32 inch LG TV which was excellent. The very large bed had an 'illuminated' raised area behind the head board containing a sunken jacuzzi which was behind a glass screen and a fantastic addition to the room. On the spacious balcony besides the usual chairs and sun loungers there was a garden style Jaccuzzi aswell, which was completely OTT. We were 'All Inclusive' which was wonderful as we didn't have to worry about paying for anything whilst we were there and could choose from the numerous restaurants around the pool, (i.e. Indian, Thai, Japanese, Italian and Mediterranean). Drinks available on A.I. basis were numerous cocktails, Maltese beers, wines and soft drinks, plus the usual gin and tonics, Bacardi and cokes etc.. The only disappointment was that one has to pay for foreign bottled sparkling water and german / european beers and obviously foreign wines.
I have to say we had an amazing holiday and towards the end of the holiday got the time to use the Hotel Lido Pool overlooking the Valetta Grand Harbour which was glorious and a fantastic view.
Service by the Fortina receptionist (Anne Marie) was exemplorary and far above and beyond the call of duty. Also we had some amazing breakfasts, lunches and dinners in the 'TASTE' Mediterranean Rstetaurant by the garden pool. We were extremely grateful for the service provided by Sandra, Rita, Helde and Bhaskar and their team who coudn't do enough to look after the guests. The quality of the food provided by the chef's for this restaurant was absolutely awesome, both in quality, style, presentation and taste, a 5 star service and regularily visited!.
All in all a wonderful experience despite our initial reservations and we are looking forward to coming back next year.

Room Tip: If you want a goodup grade try and book one of the Spa rooms on the 2nd floor. In the Tower Room...

A great place to get away from it all, we found everything we needed there. A great place to recharge ones batteries. Service was very good and the staff were ultra friendly. The room its self was really relaxing and one really didn't want to leave it.

Room Tip: The Higher the better...Wellness Tower is best from up top

I booked this hotel online without any idea what I was getting, and let me tell you- it was a very happy surprise! I stayed in May 2012 for 4 nights and was lucky enough to get a free upgrade to a Spa room! It was incredible. I had to drag myself out of the room sometimes in order to explore Malta! ;) The service was very good, and the included breakfast buffet was tasty, with a good assortment of things to choose from. I also tried the Indian restaraunt which was DELICIOUS. Also, you can't ask for a better view than at the pool bar overlooking Valetta.

I have just spent a week at the Fortina Spa Hotel with my sister, returning home yesterday. We had a wonderful holiday and a week was just not long enough! Room 934 in the tower had a beautiful view of the harbour and Valletta. Was amazing waking up to that every morning. Room was cleaned regularly and towels changed twice a day. Only thing we could moan about was the iron provided which was pretty rubbish and cocktails are very expensive at the poolside bar. Everything else was perfect. We were on a half board basis and could eat in the buffet restaurant or Il Gardino, all the food was excellent and so much variety. So much so that I have put on 6lbs in a week lol. Thank you Fortina! We hope to come back one day!

Room Tip: Sea View Tower rooms have the most beautiful view but are above quite a noisy road. That did not bo...

We have a spa suite with private pool in December and Wellness Tower suite at Easter time. Both are absolutely fabulous though my wife especially likes the heated rooftop pool. I prefer sitting on our Tower balcony with its 270 degree panorama, looking direct at 'the picture postcard' view of Valetta and its Carmelite dome, drinking a glass of wine (or several). Having been to the Fortina about 20 times - it has become our chillout place - it is liking visiting a member of the family, especially that we have got to know so many of the staff, who are always very friendly as well as efficient, and, of course, other suite owners. Building work has finished such that Tigne Point is now the place to see and be seen on Malta; people watching can be great fun. We always go all inclusive and enjoy dining around the world whilst there. However, the Brasserie having been franchised did need to pull up its socks when we visited last Easter. On the other hand, Taste was really up to the mark. Looking forward to being back there this Christmas.

Room Tip: South facing for Valetta views from the Tower. All spa suites have garden views; exotic planting, ve...
