Sliema Marina Hotel
Ranked #7 of 28 Hotels in Sliema
Reviewed 6 July 2013

The Martina Hotel offers a really good value stay. The location is unbeatable - two steps from Sliema ferries, which you can take to Valletta, Three Cities, and take cruises to Gozo and Comino. There are also a couple of bus stops, with buses going to Valletta, Airport, Mdina, St. Julian's, Mosta, and more. St. Julien's is pretty much a walking distance, The Point shopping mall (dubbed as "the biggest shopping mall in Malta") is very close, so are rocky beaches (a popular spot for evening grill parties among Malta's youth) over-viewing Valletta. The hotel is located literally between Burger King and McDonald's/McCafe for budget eaters, Pizza Hut is also round the corner - but should you want something more sophisticated, you'll find several nice eateries downstairs as well (highly recommended is Cuba Cafe, with delicious coffee and breakfast bagels for 2 euro). There's Marks & Spencer down the street, so is Zara, not to mention a couple of daily needs markets. For those wanting to enjoy some quiet time, San Anna Square is also 2 steps away.

The rooms are maintained daily, so they're always clean and proper, cleaning ladies being always very polite - so is the rest of the staff, including the super nice girls at the reception, always smiling and helpful.

That being said, there were some small bumps on the road; when we arrived, the hotel was "full" so we were given a triple land view room for one night, and then a refund (although only 10 euro). We were given two rooms to choose from, which was a nice touch; the air conditioning didn't work in the new room and failed to work for the next couple of days (a crucial addition in a country as hot as Malta) until it was finally fixed. The jacuzzi on the room was often dirty; apparently, some guests didn't take the "please shower before entering jacuzzi" plead all that seriously. The bathrooms could also use a bit of refurbishing in the near future (one has to admit though, despite lacking the modernity, they were always sparkling clean). All that considering, the staff was nice and apologetic about those faults which, to be frank, didn't manage to spoil our perfect vacation in a country so interesting, so colorful and so utterly beautiful.

Not having visited any other hotels in the country and having no actual comparison, it's hard to say if this one is the best one to choose; I do have to admit the experience was close to impeccable and I'm not sure if when returning to Malta I'd choose a different hotel - I'm not even sure if it's possible for the same price. Having spent a decent amount of research before choosing Marina, I can honestly recommend it - if you're looking for a budget hotel, look no further!

Excellent location for an extended stay. Central to bus services and great access to a variety of restaurants and shops. Rooms clean and staff particularly hospitable and helpful for a range of problems/issues which befall travelers. Would definitely stay there again.

Though not glamorous this hotel more than met our needs. Greatly located near buses, restaurants, shopping. Staff is more than happy to help with your needs. We bought the breakfast package, which could use a little more variety, and changing from day to day, when you stay for 13 nights it can get a bit tedious. There were 5 of us, we booked 2 rooms one triple and one double. You cannot get a triple Sea front, so if only two of you definitely ask for the Sea front. Any issues we had were quickly addressed. The staff is so friendly, they got to know us and answered any questions we had. Free wifi in your rooms. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, which is spectacular. They don't supply you with shampoo only bar soap, so...

I booked this hotel 5 months prior specifically for its location as we only required a short sleep after flying into the country and arriving at 1.30am. After arriving at the hotel at 2.00am we were told by the reception attendant that we are not staying here but in another hotel because "we are full up". I was given no explanation and given no options other than "I don't know, I was just told to tell you that".
The hotel then arranged transport for us to another of the hotels in their group where we stayed the night and then provided us transport back to the location we needed to be after we checked out.
When I finally managed to speak to the hotel manager a few days later, he admitted fault and was apologetic. When I asked why this occurred he could only say that it was because "they were full up". He said that we could have had two single rooms but this was not given to us an option. The hotel manager also had no answer when I asked him why we weren't advised by email prior to this but could just look away as he knew this was such bad service.
I had only booked one of their basic cheap rooms as we just needed somewhere to sleep in this location and also didn't even expect too much about the room, especially after reading several poor reviews about the hotel rooms.
This is such an appalling and disgusting way to treat people on arrival to a country that they are just shuffled within a hotel group like pieces of furniture and especially when arriving at such a late hour when they have little other option.

The Sliema Marina Hotel is excellent value and is situated right on the waterfront with stunning views. It is also in restaurant central... in fact, you have to push through open air diners to get to the hotel door. Best of all, public buses and the open-top tour buses stop across the road. That includes the very regular airport bus which costs 2.20 Euro.
Grab a seafront balcony room. It is worth the extra and the balcony chairs are useful for drying light washing. Other rooms looked a little gloomy.
Reception staff were always helpful; the included breakfast in the breakfast room with a killer view was OK. There was plenty, including cold meats and cheese, although hot foods were limited to bacon, sausages and baked beans. Cold hard-boiled eggs were the only eggs offered.
The only thing that detracted from our experience was the lumpy, heavy rubber pillows supplied.

The hotel is in the center of Sliema seafront, the harbor is. The staff is nice, proper cleanliness. We booked sea view room because we knew in advance that they are the best. The room was large, clean and comfortable. A large balcony with a fantastic view of the sea (the Gulf). Was a refrigerator and an electric kettle (with tea and instant coffee) A simple bathroom old and outdated, but it's all passed. The dining room is also fantastic views of the bay, the breakfast was acceptable. The rooftop jacuzzi room, they are not the most modern, the water is cold inside, but the view out of Valletta and bay make up for everything. The rooms have air conditioning but an additional charge. If someone wants to sleep with the window open and it is not disturbed by noise in the corresponding offers. According to the central location there is big noisy and cowded. Parking is not easy, but we always managed somehow. Hand in front of the hotel depart for the cruise ships and buses. I think it is very good - value for money hotel.

Room Tip: only sea wiew rooms
