The Waterfront Hotel
Ranked #4 of 28 Hotels in Sliema
Reviewed 19 March 2011

The other reviewers are too kind. Certainly the staff are very helpful and its a good location with fine views, but that doesn’t make a four star hotel. Road noise in our fourth floor room was so bad we had to move to the seventh. The windows are single-glazed and don’t fit properly – evidenced by water that drips in when it rains and blows. The bathroom is tired. Then there are greedy rates for internet access - c’mon: there’s no excuse for charging for WiFi in 2011. As for the food, well you won’t go hungry, but if you can afford to eat elsewhere you will. It's school food. Breakfast has all the standard signs of a bad hotel: scrambled egg that would be better employed as safety matting in a children's playground, a conveyor-belt toaster that underdoes first time through and then burns your toast on its second passing, horrid tea and coffee from a multi-drinks machine you have to queue up for, and a chronic shortage of teaspoons. All ingredients - beans, bacon, sausages, cheese, fruit juice - are cheap. Supper is no better. How can you over-salt pasta? Ask the chef at the Waterfront.

And lastly, it's one of those hotels that insults its guests by equipping wardrobes with anti-theft coat hangers.

Waterfront - you employ good people and are in a great location but your infrastructure is aging and you haven't caught up with what we expect today from a four-star hotel.

We had a lovely 7 day holiday here Half board ( breakfast and Supper)
Food was Brilliant, Breakfast was a good choice but Supper could be alittle boring, However well cooked
Staff where very helpful the rooms where spotless and very comfortable.
Location is brilliant which a bus stop very close.

I can't express what a lovely little place this hotel was and what brilliant value for money it boasted
Would jump at the chance of having the same deal again.
100% recommend to any one
However the cherry on the top would have been a swimming pool or use of another hotels swimming pool. there is a small one on the roof but this is only available in the summer months

also becare on the rooms as friends of ours had rooms right at the front and she had to buy ear plugs because of the road noise.

I spent 4 days and nights in the Waterfront Hotel at the beginning of March and I could find very little to complain about. My only complaints were the lack of free WiFi and we had plastic shower curtains. Now that I have gotten that out of the way, let me go on to describe what I really did like. I had free under the hotel car parking. A small car park but I always found space there. There is free parking at the far side of the road if you can find a space.
I loved the atmosphere of the place. There were always people coming and going in the lobby and at or near the bar. There were 3 different places to eat in the hotel, starting from snacks in one place to pizzas and light lunch type food in another, to full blown dinners in the other. Prices were really great. We (as guests) had starters, main course and desert for E10 per head. For that we could go back to the serving area as many times as we liked and eat as much as we liked, all in a normal looking restaurant. The bar was also well used and reasonably priced. A pint of Cisk was E2.80; about E4.30 for a similar drink at home. Staying on this theme; the prices in the mini bar in the room were also very reasonable.
Buffet breakfast was great. Along with all the meat, cheese, fruit, yoghurts and breads that you would find in most hotels there was also the makings of a good old fashioned fry-up to be had.
Our room on the 4th floor was bright and spacious and had a balcony overlooking the waterfront. A beautiful room and location. We had no trouble with traffic noise as I had read about on other reviews. Perhaps this was because we were far enough up from the street. There was also free use of the safe in our room. Lots of power points, which is good for charging all the electronics we have nowadays. Our floor was served by 3 (not together) lifts. From our corridor I could see the small inner courtyard that the inner rooms overlooked. At two thirds the price of the outer rooms, I would seriously consider using one of these if I was to return.
There is a nice area on the roof, where there is a small pool, a bar and sunbathing area. The bar there was closed when we stayed.
There are bus stops within a hundred or so metres. There is a lovely promenade across the road next to the waterfront. I don’t think that I would even look for any different hotel if I was to return to Malta. We had a nice time there.

My advice for management: At this day and age free WiFi should be standard. Free wifi was available in a hotel very close by.

The hotel is a very good value. It's located on the beginning of the tourist area, next to the harbour.
The rooms were very nice, clean and comfortable. We were 3 in the room, so we had a bigger one, with a sofa and a table.
The pool is very small, but it's better than nothing seeing that the very few beaches close to the hotel are not sandy.
The breakfast and diner buffets were good and had a lot of choices but it's still better to go eat outside some time.

Had a great week. Sliema is very built up and although the hotel is on a duel-carriageway it was quiet in the spacious, clean, well equiped rooms. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. There was a good choice of food for residents and a good restaurant attached also open to the public. Being one of the taller hotels the view from the roof pool area over-looking Valletta was breathtaking. would happily return.

having been to malta many times and seeing this hotel, I thought I'd stay there this time (after a disaster at another hotel in Sliema).
First impressions...clean,airy,helpful friendly staff. Pleasant reception area, bar and cafe.
The room was spotless, roomy and bright, with an excellent view of the harbour area and Valletta. Nice, large balcony to enjoy sunbathing or an evening drink. Free electronic safe. Clean, well lit bathroom. Good quality picture on the TV with several English language channels, well stocked fridge/mini-bar at surprisingly reasonable prices.
Cleaned everyday to a high standard.
Food in the restaurant (for breakfast anyway) was excellent. The quality and choice was second to none. The staff were great, and so were the views across the water.
Definately my choice of hotel when I next visit wonderful Malta.
