Nice newly built hotel on the Waterfront in Sliema Malta. Very helpful, friendly staff. Nice clean airy rooms. Excellent service. We were on a half board basis so food was ok, average. A bit samey but reasonably cooked.Choice of 2 meat dishes (one of these was usually pork), fish and a vegetarian option,
The hotel is situated on the waterfront directly opposite Valetta. I would say that rooms facing the harbour may be a bit noisy as they face onto a main road.
excellent bus and ferry service.

Room Tip: use the local bus service and ferry service

My husband & I have just returned from a 1 week stay at this hotel where we found our accomidation quite comfortable. Our room, 414, was a twin & looked out onto the harbor. An additional supplement was charged for this. The view was wonderful, Valletta across the water. The hotel sits on a main road & as such the noise can be a bit heavy at times. While I feel that this could deter someone who was looking to sit out on the balcony a great deal of the time, it did not bother us. We were too busy going out & about exploring new places. The windows are insulated enough to prevent the sound from disturbing you when they are shut. If you have any concerns then simply do not go for a room with a view. Other rooms are equally comfortable.

Some one mentioned trouble with the air conditioning, we had no problem with this. It would appear that the hotel is energy conscious. We discovered that upon entering the room with your 'scan card key' . . . you must then insert it in a slot just inside the room. This will then allow you to use electrical plugs, turn on lights and switch on the air conditioning. While this initially took us by surprise I can see the value in preventing people from turning on the aircon full blast all day long when the room is unoccupied. I question whether the person who made a previous comment was aware of this.

We found the location of the hotel to be ideal for catching the local ferry & bus services. The departure point for all of the boat day trips are within a 5 min. walk. The hotel is also a good base for exploring the local shopping area. Finding food is not a problem. There are many little cafes & restaurants just waiting to be discovered. I can highly recommend a small family run place called - il' Merrill. The place deserves a far higher rating than no. 33 as currently listed on TA. So much food for a good price. We visited there three times and yet to completely clean my plate.
Breakfast served at the hotel is nothing to write home about but as it came with our accomidation it was ok. The view across the water while sipping your O.J makes for a great start to the day. Bar prices were quite reasonable too. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, we found it to be a clean & comfortable place to base ourselves.

We have just returned from a 5 day break to the Waterfront Hotel. Firstly we have never travelled to Malta before and my impression of Sliema overall is quite scruffy. Alot of building works are going on plus roads and pavements are unkempt, a few doors down from the hotel was a doorway (presumably an empty building) with rubbish strewn on the door step and was never cleared all the time during our stay.

The plus points for the hotel, nice bar/foyer area which were well maintained. Our first room was 405, a side sea-view which we had a paid a supplement for. Before arrival my wife had emailed the hotel requesting a high floor quiet room, so we were directly opposite the lift and given the 4th floor, half way up only. However in fairness the lift didn't prove to be a problem but the noise off the road was horrendous throughout the day with passing traffic and was relentless. It did quieten down marginally at night but you couldn't have the balcony window open as it would still of been too nosiy.

Our main problem with this room was the air-conditioning or lack of it as it was stifling. We reported this to the reception staff Jonathan & Sylvia the afternoon we arrived who informed us that the air-conditioning was not on during the day and could only be operated after 6pm, this later was changed to 4pm from the maintenance man who attempted to repair it. If you read the hotel key features in the rooms it states that the air-conditioning can be individually operated by guests to suit, at no time time does it mention you can only operate it from tea-time only! The first night was unbearable with the heat and so the following morning my wife went down to reception at 7.30am and spoke to another receptionist who was far more helpful and eventually organised for us to swap room to 615 the inner court yard. Immediately you could feel the air-conditioning working and miraculously this could be operated at any time of the day, the inner court yard was quiet and being on the 6th floor you could still see the harbour although I realise you wouldn't on all floors from the 4th downwards but these rooms are the standard hotel rooms (although the furnishings are exactly the same as the seaview ones etc)

Thankfully the rest of the holiday went well, breakfast was the usual cereals, continental cheeses salamis etc, hot buffet with a super view over the harbour from the restaurant. We didn't eat at the hotel for evening meals but tried several of the local restaurants in the town, some are better than others and it does depend on what you order as we visited a place twice, the first night was excellent and the second time was below par.

The hop on and ride buses combine a harbour cruise included in the price of the ticket as well which is well worth going on as alot of the history and sights in the harbour were explained. the buses were a good way to explore the island and we really enjoyed the north island tour, our second excursion was to Gozo which we personally found overated and very disappointing plus to get to the ferry harbour and the crossing took nearly 2 hours each way. Also a visit to Valletta is a must and was really enjoyable.

So overall we heard the saying'you either love or hate Malta', well we certainly enjoyed Valletta and the people on the island are extremely hospitable which is alot of it's charm. We didn't appreciate being lied to by Jonathan & Sylvia regarding the air-conditioning in the rooms which the housekeeper confirmed should be operable throughout the day. Would we return to Malta, well yes, maybe not to this hotel as we would prefer to stay in Valletta next time but there is nothing wrong with this hotel, however perhaps next time certain reception staff should think about what they tell guests and not deliberatly misinform them.

Room Tip: Go for an inner courtyard room

I have to disagree with the last reviewer this is a very nice hotel, i have stayed there on several occasions. Maybe the hotel is in need of a little refurbishment to keep it in tip top order but overall i would recommend it. The staff are very nice and any complaints are dealt with professionally and with a smile.

Service abysmal. Waited two and a half hours to get towels ..Despite calling on several occasions! Food poor to just about OK. Rotten apples in fruit bowl at dinner. Plates and cutlery not always clean. Limited choice of menu. Vegetarian choice a bit of a joke unless you like salad and salad and salad. Definitely not a 4star hotel. More accurately a 2 star aspiring to be a 3 star. Certainly not impressed and felt let down by earlier evaluations. The hotel needs a proper compliment of staff trained in hotelliership across the board. Overall, if you have not booked this hotel be thankful. If you have, try to cancel or get a medical certificate to present to your insurance company stating that you are not well enough to go on holiday. Save your money, you have been warned. Malta overall is a friendly place worth visiting. Just be careful with your hotel choice. Happy Holidays!
