Reviewed 10 August 2011

We arrived early morning 3rd of August. Reception was very efficient and very helpful.
I have a skin condition that requires a room with a bath for the meds to work their best.
The room we were given was a shower room and not conducive to meds application.
Went to reception and explained the problem and they found us a room with bath and even moved the luggage for us when we were out enjoying the area. How helpful is that.
Next to the other reviewers :
For the ones that complain about the breakfasts.

We would recommend this hotel to anybody with the only down side being the small pool area however the view was great.

Close to shopping in neigbouring Sliema this nice hotel is a perfect location. Rooms are nicely decorated in blue and white. I missed WiFi in the room though.

Friday's BBQ by the pool on the roof terrace is a must. Half board is not to recommend unless you like standard dining.

The hotel is rated as a 4*, but I think it should be rated as a 3*.
The reception area is very clean and well maintained, and the staff at reception are very friendly. We arrived just after midnight, and with it being 29 degrees ouside were looking forward to air conditioned rooms, unfortunatly my rooms AC was not working. After a few calls, and staff coming to the room, I was supplied with a fan, as the maintenance staff are only available during the day!! The problem was eventually fixed after 3 days!! by a card being permanently placed in the power slot, therefore the AC was on all the time, which was a very welcome relief. (just a note: there are AC sensors on the patio doors which can be a problem if they are not working properly, which after talking to other guests, seemed to be a very common problem.)
We were on a B&B basis, the breakfast food was very basic, but with the temperatures in the high 30's every day, I can't imagine eating a cooked breakfast anyway...
The roof terrace: The pool was nice, not too large, but it was never overly full. It was always windy on the roof terrace, therefore some days the umberellas could not be put up, but out of our 7 day stay this only happened once. The pool bar was very nice, and the food was the same as the coffee shop near the lobby. But sometimes you did have to wait a while for a member of staff to get served. One thing I did notice was there was what appeared to be soot on the floor, and round the edge of the pool, which may have been coming from the vents on the roof.
I did find most of the staff extremely helpful and friendly.
The hotel is situated in a fantastic location, and you can acess most of the island by catching a bus, with stops very close to the hotel. Also the water taxi to Valetta is a short walk away (but if you don't like walking up a steep hill and lots of steps, I would recommend that you catch a bus to valetta, and then the water taxi back).
I would recommend taking the opportunity to go on some of the tours that are on offer, but go on them early in your stay, as you don't spend a great deal of time in one place on the tours, so then if you want to go back via a bus you have the opportunity to do so.
I hope this helps people travelling to The Waterfront and Sliema.

Room Tip: Try and request a higher floor room, probably 5 to 7, as the hotel in on a main road.

The waterfront is very central. The bus stops are about 200yards away. The ferry boat to visit the capital Valetta is also about 200yards away. The hotel has very good friendly and helpful staff. It is spotless clean and has very good buffet breakfasts. Rooms are very comfortable with those on the front having fantastic sea views. Bus passes are good value 6.50euros for week.

Room Tip: worth paying extra for seaview rooms. Good views room 208/209 308/309 408/409 all corner rooms.

Very nice 3-star hotel but for 4 stars they claim for themselves, I would say some things are missing. However, staff were very friendly. Dinner was good too (3 star quality). I also enjoyed having a few drinks in the lounge before going to bed. Location is also good, near the ferry and the bus stops. I would certainly go back to this hotel. A very relaxed atmosphere!

Stayed for 9 nights end of June/start of July. Asked for a high room - had been a bit worried about the "traffic noise" reports and got a room on the top (7th) floor with sea view. Fantastic view overlooking Manoel Island and Valletta and NO traffic noise with windows closed, minimal with them open. Get a high sea view room - you won't regret it. Bedroom was quite large and neat and carpeted (looked new). Air conditioning pretty good - had it on all night every night. Bathroom and shower needed a bit of updating. In room safe and fridge were a nice bonus as were the beach towels that were provided. Stayed B&B and didn't eat other meals at the hotel. Will definitely agree that the bacon was a great disappointment. One day it was actually ALL FAT! After a while the chef changed the whole container for some slightly meater bits. No variety at all from day to day with the rest of breakfast so got pretty dull. Hotel in a handy location for ferries and buses (now Arriva just like home!), but to get to the better eateries on the Stand and Tower Road we had 15-20 min walk. Pool very small but there were 2 good size rooftop areas for sunbathing. All the hotel staff were great and very helpful. Strange that there were no stairs for guests and for us to get to the breakfast room we had to get one lift to the ground floor, then walk across reception to another lift and get this up to the 1st floor.
PLUS POINTS:
Nice guest room with great views
NOT SO GOOD:
Breakfast
TIPS:
Local eateries that we liked: Cafe Cuba, Georgios
Get the Ferry to Valletta (if you don't mind uphill walk when you get there) 3 euro return takes less than 10 mins
TOP TIP:
Walk to St Julians (Spinola and Balutta Bays) for lots more choice of restaurants
You don't need to follow the road round the coast, you can take short cut along
Triq Manwel Dimech, takes 20 mins

Room Tip: Ask at reception on arrival for sea view high floor if possible

looks impressive from outside but tired and requiring updating. Roof top pool shabby parasols broken shower area dirty. Hotel situated at far end of resort. Only stopped B&B breakfast very poor bacon nearly all fat. No courtesy room on departing for shower etc. Air con hardly operated during night. Linen ripped and old. Certainly not 4* more like 2 or 3.
