“Hotel from hell”
Reviewed 4 May 2011

This hotel is a disaster! Very dirty room, sheet, duvet, bathroom. They checked me in a room with view on pipes, no balcony. No day light, no fresh air. Stinky four walls. On a breakfast, eatable was bread an an egg. Coffee tested awful. Selection with food was very poor. Dont get deceived by photos showed by the hotel on their site. Breakfast room is in a lobby, there's no cloth table like on the pics, tables are dirty, pics from rooms and beds must have been taken from a different place. On Sunday all cleaners are off, dont expect you will get a new towels or rubbish will be removed. Tv in a room without remote, missing buttons, all looks like someone got ride of old tvs and they took it for hotel. For one day there was no hot water at all.
We stayed there for 4 night, that was 4 night too long. Never again!!!
I don't expect much from 2 star hotel, but minimum is essential.

The location was fantastic, I loved the hotel staff and the ambience that the hotel offered, It had that home from home feel and found that nothing was too much for staff to assist with especially front desk staff. Rooms were spacious and very clean, excellent breakfast . We have stayed in various 4 star hotels but although this Hotel is only classed as a 3 star it is better than some 4 star. We would have no hesitation in booking this hotel again and would definately recommend to others...

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in February. After reading some of the negative reviews we were a little apprehensive, but we were pleasantly surprised.

We booked a sea-view double room and it cost us less than £15 per night (that's around £7.50 each b&b!) The room was clean but basic with a great view of the bay. We were on the third floor directly above the main entrance. On our arrival, the bar was pumping out some cheesy music, but once in our room this was virtually inaudible.

The room was basic, but clean and the bed very comfortable. There was a TV, hair-dryer and an oil filled radiator to plug in if we needed heat (we only used this on one occasion) Towels were changed as often as you asked and the room was well cleaned daily.

There were no communal areas as such. Just a couple of PCs for guest use in reception.

The breakfast was basic but adequate. Cereals, 4 different kinds of bread, cheese, eggs, jams, tea, coffee and juice. What do the people who have complained expect for less than £10 b&b??!!

The staff were polite and helpful. They were happy to explain where to catch buses and ready with any information you asked of them. Denis was particularly helpful.

We have travelled extensively and have stayed in everything from hostels to luxury hotels. We tend to favour cheaper accommodation serving as a base to explore the area. The Europa fitted the bill and was excellent value for money. The harbour of Sliema was only a 10 minute stroll away (here you can pick up the boat trips and open top bus tours of the island) The local buses are fantastic and a cheap way to explore the island - ask the driver for a pass, these are available for 3, 5 or 7 days and provided unlimited use of the public buses.

I can appreciate that in high season this hotel might get a bit chaotic and that the majority of the rooms do not have a sea-view. We were lucky. The guests when we were there were from a whole cross-section of ages- probably 18-70, some of whom were returning visitors. There were also one or two lone-female travellers who obviously felt safe and well catered for.

Admittedly, this is not the place to stay if you want to sit around the hotel all day, but
if you need a cheap place to stay, providing secure and well located accommodation then this fits the bill. Surely the idea of travel is to get out there and experience the country you are visiting?

For £7.50 each this was remarkable value! We have paid a lot more in the past for less suitable hotels. If you want the Ritz you'll pay Ritz prices!

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for a week in late January. At the time of booking we had selected this hotel both for its convenient location and its reasonable prices, and had studied previous reviews which were generally positive. Our experience during our stay at the Europa was enjoyable. In particular the staff went out their way to make us feel really welcome.

On the day of departure we took a taxi to the airport which we booked at reception. On arrival at the airport we discovered that our keys had been lost. On return to Ireland I rang the hotel to ask them to check our room. Unfortunately there was no sign of the keys but the hotel proceeded to follow up with the taxi company, having identified which driver had picked us up. Happily, when the taxi driver checked, it transpired that our keys were indeed on the floor of his taxi. The driver immediately returned these to the hotel who posted them them on to us without delay. Obviously we were absolutely delighted and relieved.

Our experience of the Europa hotel, its staff and the taxi driver have definitely reinforced our positive experience of Malta and its people and their positive and helpful attitude towards their visitors. We will certainly be back!

If you want a luxury hotel with all the trimmings then this hotel is not for you but if you want somewhere cheap, well positioned, clean and comfortable with pleasant staff then this hotel fits the bill very nicely. lt is conveniently situated for restaurants, bars, shops and buses but as it is in the middle of a terrace block the majority of the rooms will have no view. As it is right on the sea front we paid the extra for a sea view room which was lovely. Bed and breakfast for 2 of us was under £100 for a week booked through Easy Jet so we weren't expecting 5* luxury. Our room was spacious and clean and the beds were comfortable. The shower room was also a good size, there was always hot water and the towels were changed daily. There was cable television in the room but the channel selector switch was missing however we eventually managed to flick through all the channels but the only English one was BBC World. The central heating wasn't on but there was an oil filled radiator in the room which we needed as although the weather was lovely during the day it did get cold at night. The other guests were a mixture of ages and nationalities, with a few parties of youngsters. Although at night there was music being played in the cocktail bar/disco it was always nearly empty so there was no excessive noise, possibly this might be different in the summer when it gets busy. The continental breakfast was a buffet of cereals, juice, different types of bread, cheese, boiled eggs, tea or coffee. This was nice enough but the breakfast room was rather dingy as there were no windows or natural light so not really a place for a long leisurely breakfast. Overall we had an excellent week in Malta and were happy with our stay at the Europa

My wife and I stayed at the EUROPA hotel in Sliema in Malta in the first week in Feb with Easyjet Holidays, this is the report that I sent to them.......
I have just spent a Week at the EUROPA hotel in Malta surgested by you and booked with you from your Easyjet holidays web site. It is a Hotel from Hell. First it is not a Hotel but a Hostel as we where told by the many students that stayed there on a regular basis. The room was Dirty and tatty, The door to the balcony was falling off and would not close, allowing the wind to howl throught it all night long. The balcony was filthy dirty and flooded when it rained ( all the time ). The tv did not work. There was no Centeral heating at all, and it was freezing cold every night. We had no Electric power for 4 days so nothing would work anyway. The Toilet was Broken and would not flush, and was never repaired untill I fixed it my self . The so called Bar only opened on one occasion late at night for a couple of hours and the night Club was no-where to be found. The Breakfast was you might call Continental in a fasion, if you like Bread and Cheese, and that was all they had. Prisnors in jail get better fed. I complained every day about all the above and was told it would be better the next day, and the next day, and the next day. All I can say about this Holiday from hell is that no one should have to go throught this Nightmare Again. This report will be put on the Trip Adviser web site so no one has to. LBC
