“Excellent -a must for anyone going to Malta”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2013

We were collected on time by a really nice chap who had worked for the company a few years. As he collected the other guests (1 other couple) he told us all about Malta. The trip was so much more than sightseeing, the driver took us on an exploration of Maltese culture, food, politics, history, geography, religion and industry. We had the Landrover Defender and it was worth the extra cost, the vehicle was spacious and comfy, even when outside got to 40C. The meal at the restaurant was also good. Without doubt, the best part was all the interesting facts we got to learn about Malta, although I have to say the sights were also amazing. The driver really made our trip, he was a real star and so helpful, he couldnt do enough for you. He even took us to see the Cold War memorial (not part of the trip) as we had expressed an interest in it. Fantastic day and so worth the money.

“Gozo jeep safari”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2013

When booking trips like this, the weather is always a bit of a crap shoot. On the day I went there was no rain but the sky was quite hazy. That's not the company's fault and even though it spoiled some of the views there was still a lot worth seeing.

I went on the regular safari and not the Defender tour. The jeeps used on the regular safari are open in the back with two benches facing each other. There are seat belts but mine didn't work. If you've got mobility issues but want to go on this tour, you may have to spring for the higher priced version so you can sit in an enclosed vehicle or look for another company.

The driver was a nice guy and had lots of interesting information to impart. It was a bit of a challenge, however, as the group members spoke different languages and had varying levels of English. Still, he gave it his best and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

You do get to see a fair amount on this tour, but it felt rather rushed. This would be good for those on a short stay, but I wonder if I would have been better off doing this on my own since my Malta trip is long.

Lunch was a simple buffet style affair at a local restaurant -- not 5 star, but not bad either. Those I ate with said that they enjoyed it.

The low of the safari came on the return. After taking the ferry from Gozo to Malta, we drove back to the garage where we had started from so that we could board the shuttle to take us back to our hotels. We were left standing around for a long time with one of the safari drivers who seemed as confused as we were about the delay. After 15 or 20 minutes, the shuttle driver called to say he had a flat. He finally showed up about 47 minutes late. The safari driver stayed with us in the meantime. He did his best to keep us entertained and comfortable (offered us water and access to the toilets in the garage), but of course by then everyone was tired and just wanted to go.

Although I enjoyed seeing the sites on this particular tour and don't hold a flat tire or bad weather against the company, I can't help feeling that this is a bit overpriced. I was planning to do the Malta safari, but I'm looking at other companies now and using the public bus to see what I can on my own.

“OK if the trip is as advertised”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2013

We took this trip as it was in a defender vehicle instead of a jeep. It was exactly the same tour but included a '3 course dinner with wine in a 5 star award winning hotel'. The cost was 89 euros with the jeep only tour being 55 euros. The cheaper tour was to be taken to a lesser quality restaurant. The tour itself was excellent, our guide Manuel was very knowledgeable, helpful and interested. Unfortunately, when it came to lunch, we were taken to a rather poor quality restaurant in Rabat. There was no explanation as to why we were not going to the 5 star hotel. All the passengers on the jeep were confused. When we got back I emailed the company to ask why we had not been taken to the 5 star hotel. The reply was that there had been a problem on the day and they couldn't take us there. There was no offer of a refund for the difference but we were offered a dinner another time which was a nice touch. However, we should have been told about this when we set off so we could cancel and get a refund or pay the cheaper tour price.

“Jeep safari round malta”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2013

My daughter and myself went on this trip on the 7th of may we were picked up at the San Antonio hotel ,we were in an open jeep our guide was amazing very informative throughout the whole day. There was 3 open jeeps on the trip that day and all the guides were warm and friendly . My daughter and myself had an amazing day the guide kept us entertained and we visited lovely places given lots of time to explore each destination. Lunch was provided in a lovely restaurant with a 3 course lunch which was plentiful and water and wine provided. The guide was the nicest person we have ever come across. Captain Morgan's is an very efficient company we have booked with them before and they have never let us down.

“Don't book jeep tours with this company”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2013

This company offers jeep tours on malta and gozo. We booked online a few days ahead of wanting to go to Gozo at a cost of 55 euros per person for a full day including lunch.

We would not recommend this company for touring around Malta. Unfortunately we experienced a catalogue of issues, some small some large that amounted to a situation that was less than satisfactory:
* the company insisted that we produce hard copies of our ticket because it's "company policy" and we wouldn't be able to go on the tour without it (why we couldn't show a copy on our mobile phone still puzzles us). We were on holiday; why should we need access to a printer?!
* the jeep was a bit horrific - incredibly old, highly uncomfortable, poor suspension (Malta has a lot of roads that aren't in good shape), we had to clamber in and out of the back as opposed to side doors (this would be really hard for anyone that isn't very mobile), inadequate protection from the elements (heavy rain and hail for us), seatbelts that weren't particularly reliable (eek! especially when you know the reputation the Maltese have around their driving)
* the weather on the day was pretty ropey and when we finally arrived at the harbour, the sea was so rough that our guide thought we would only get a few hours on Gozo before having to come back. Feeling pretty anxious about the voyage anyway, we decided not to go and were assured by our guide that we would get a full refund.
* our guide then telephoned the office only to have this refund offer flatly refused. They insisted that we should have cancelled before driving up to the north end of the island (it wasn't so bad in Valetta and the website had said no cancellations!). Even our guide tried to explain that the weather was very poor and could understand why we didn't want to go. Yet the office insisted that any kind of refund was not possible. Why isn't there a company procedure around what to do/what kind of refund can be offered when the weather is bad?
* It was our tour guide that redeemed the day. Suggesting that we have a 'malta tour' instead, we could spend the day visiting sites that are only accessible by private vehicle, as well as some of the other well known sites. Whilst the weather was appalling, we managed to enjoy the day in the end. Our guide took note of what we said we were interested in and it was clear that she is very knowledgeable and passionate about showing Malta off. It is a big loss to the company that she is starting a new job next week! However listening to her experiences, it is not surprising why she is leaving
* Lunch in Rabat was surprisingly okay - included a glass of house wine, starter, main and pudding.

We suggest you find an alternative way to see the islands, whether public transport (buses are cheap and reliable, but not frequent) or hiring your own vehicle.
