We stayed in this apartment for 10 days. The apartment itself was excellent being only 3 months old with a superb sea view. There were however two major problems. To the right of the apartment where a new high rise development is taking place at Tigne Point whilst noise could be heard this was just about acceptable although the noise may well increase as the building work advances, however the Old Fort situated immediately below the apartment (which is on the 8th floor) is also undergoing renovation. The works started at 6am in the morning and the noise levels are just unacceptable, we could not even hear each other talking on the balcony when the crane was operating. When we mentioned this to Paula her reply was that it was outside of her control and that is why double glazing was installed so you could sit inside and shut all the windows. Why would you want to go on holiday and shut yourself inside to avoid noise from a building site? When we arrived we were told that as September is the end of the season all the beds and umbrellas from the swimming pool area had been taken away just leaving 9 uncomfortable plastic chairs for the use of all the flats at Fort Cambridge. Whilst the weather may have been exceptionally hot ( in the 80's) for this time of the year it is outrageous to expect people to sun bath or sit on the concrete floor. At one point there were over 40 people around the pool area and they all said that this was frankly not good enough. We did have sunbeds on the balcony but the sun disappeared behind the building at 9 am and in any case it was too noisy to use them.
Both of these matters should have been fully disclosed on the website, if we had known we certainly would not have gone to this apartment or to Fort Cambridge, It spoiled what was otherwise a good holiday.
Prompt and friendly email communication with Aaron during the booking process and a warm welcome from Paula, his wife, on arrival at Fort Cambridge. A very well appointed apartment on the 12th floor overlooking sea and pool. A very useable balcony due to being shady from midmorning, from previous experience sunny balconies can be too hot to use until evening. Pool was great but be aware that the sun disappears behind the apartment block as the day progresses, leaving the pool in shade and less busy. Those with fare skin or small children may see this as an advantage. If you choose to have a car, not essential, I would recommend underground parking, keeps the car cool and anyway the parking spaces in the streets around were always full. It’s not unusual in Malta to have an electricity allowance (25 units per day) and pay extra (30c per unit) for additional use. This apartment was not as hot as some we have stayed in, we did use the air conditioning as required, the dishwasher every day and the washing machine two or three times, and did not exceed our allowance. The Tigne development is over to the right with building work progressing, some noise but not a major problem, also ground works in front of apartment with some early starts (7am) during second week. A short walk to The Point for shopping and restaurants and walk a bit further over the footbridge to Sliema front for more of the same and access to boat/bus tours.
