Thought we would try this hotel for a couple nights away, the room itself was terrible, the shower head was so dirty and the bath, whilst standing under the shower you could feel the bricks holding it up, i honestly thought the thing was going to break. The walls had mould in parts and plaster falling off them, don't know what the cleaners do in this place but its not cleaning!!
Food, we decided to go the half board option, big mistake, cheap food not even disguised as anything else buffet style, on second day i refused to eat anything as it was so bad and was given the option to choose some from the cafe menu instead, had chicken and cheese baguette, oh my not even chicken breast, just the leftovers from the carcass i think and i only ate half of it, absolutely vile, later on coming back from a walk i couldnt stop being sick!!
Yes some people may think 5 stars is great but that just goes by facilities, and they wernt much better, steam room was not hot enough the pool on the roof ok i suppose.
overall this hotel is rubbish and i have been to much better 3 star places

Room Tip: If u want to choose a good room, find a good hotel this one is no good unless you have no standards...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a 10 night stay. It is an urban hotel, but has great sea views from the wonderful infinity rooftop pool. The sunbathing area by the pool gets very busy, and there does need to be an increase in the number of shaded loungers. The staff at the poolside cafe were helpful, but a little haphazard. The rooms are modern and satisfactory - though not 5 star standard, and with a strange wardrobe set up. However the beds are extremely comfortable, and the rooms very well soundproofed. Breakfast was good, though I really don't like the 'canteen' style room which is very noisy. One thing I really didn't like is the fact that the coffee is dependant on one member of staff walking around offering you a cup. This can take up to 20 mins at a time - in addition the person has to keep on topping up the pots. If you are a coffee lover like me, this is totally unsatisfactory. More than once I saw other clients trying to catch the coffee man's attention. It would be far better to allow each table their own tea/coffee supply. Joe never failed to slop the coffee into the saucer. I did point out the lack of coffee to the reception staff, who dealt with my concerns immediately - even leaving us a bottle of wine in our room for our trouble. That is certainly a 5* approach. I have to mention a member of staff called Mark Zammit. He deserves a medal for his absolutely first class standard of service, and should be held up to all as an example of 'how to do it right'.

We have just returned from staying at the palace for two weeks and had a wonderful time. The hotel itself is modern and clean and has amazing views over the surrounding area. We had a room on the 8th floor and found this to be very quiet (even with a wedding reception going on one night above us).The pool area is very nice however I would agree with previous reviews that it would benefit from having more seating in the shade, especially as the temperature soured whilst we were in Malta. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and it was good to see the managers taking a front line role and directly overseeing various aspects of service. We stayed half-board and really enjoyed our meals and found that there was plenty of choice. The coffee was also amazing as were the cocktails and the Maltese wine. There was also a supermarket just down the road which was very useful in terms of stocking up on water and snack supplies.

During our stay we mixed our time between relaxing by the pool and beach and also doing some sightseeing. We enjoyed visiting Valletta, especially looking around the co-cathedral and the grand master's palace. Our tour rep recommended getting the bus there and the ferry back however we much preferred getting a water taxi both ways as this was quicker and the same price. We also visited Medina and had a lovely time wondering around the old city. The bus was very cheap and we didn't have to wait long for one to arrive so we would recommend this mode of transport rather than paying for a taxi or hiring a car. The highlight of our holiday was taking a jeep ride around Gozo which also included a speed boat ride to the blue lagoon. This was amazing and we were able to fit so much in. We also enjoyed a boat trip around Malta and Goso through Captain Morgan, although the upgrade to a catamaran which we were told would be more intimate turned out to be rather rowdy due to the lore of a free bar. Some random people also decided to come on board during one of the swimming stops which was a little odd. However the trip did offer some amazing views of the island.

Room Tip: We had room on the 8th floor - very quiet and amazing views

It was so perfectly organised and the staff are very caring, specially Mr. Mario Messina Front office. I frequent stayed in alot of hotels around Malta and i can confirm that you can not go wrong when you go to the palace hotel. Very clean and luxoury rooms and the staff service very professional. I would like to thank all the staff of the palace hotel.

We arrived at The Palace on 7 July 2012. The night before I had been checking the reviews again and got a bit worried about some of the complaints. I decided to drop the hotel an e-mail expressing my concerns and requested an upgrade if they had availability. On arrival at the hotel we were informed we had been upgraded to a junior suite which was lovely. The hotel is overall big and clean. Although I would definitely not say it is a five star hotel, it is a pleasant place to stay. The staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet is pretty standard but I cannot really complain. On our second night we decided to visit the temptasian restaurant in the hotel which has been rated no 1 on trip advisor for restaurants in Sliema however we had a very bad experience. Service was incredibly slow and my fish was very dry and tasteless. We waited 20 minutes to place our order for our mains and a further half hour for our plates to be collected once we were done. I asked to speak to the manager who came up after 15 minutes and took our room number down and said someone would contact us the following day. We ordered desert which also failed to turn up. On chasing this we were told that our order had never reached the kitchen. After 4 days we still had not heard anything. On approaching reception we spoke to the general manager who was very helpful and took that bill off and gave us a complimentary lunch in the talk of town cafe which does nice food. Sliema overall has some great places to eat although you could get bored of pastas and pizzas. If you venture out to St Julians there are some lovely places to eat there on the marina, especially at Portamasu Business Park. The cleaners seems to skimp on cleaning rooms properly but it is livable with. Also, the pool is lovely and provides amazing views however my only complaint would be there is not any umbrellas available. Overall, we had a nice holiday but I just do not feel The Palace should advertise itself as a five star hotel and charge for the same.

This is a beautiful hotel, decor through out is contemporary yet they have managed to incorporate sheer comfort within this. The staff are warm and welcoming and again manage to make you feel relaxed in what to some may feel a little overwhelming. The roof top restaurant has the most stunning views of the habour and Valletta, beautifully lit, it really is exquiste in it's self definately a must to experience the view from this hotel, it comes very close to the view of Rome from the Splendide Royal in Villa Borghese area which is just stunning. The roof top infinity pool is a treat and there are several gazebo's with voil curtains which again is just a delight ( some people reserve these so be quick to go up in the morning ) even if its just once you feel like an Arabian princess !! There are plenty of sun beds and seating areas some shaded some not so something for everyone. Again the view's are amazing, to be able to lay on a bed or soak in a pool and see these views around is just wonderful. We also watched the sun go down lay on a sun bed with a glass of red wine listening to chill out tunes not exactly cafe del mar/ mambo Ibzia level but lovely in it's self. We did have a few comedy mishap's at this hotel, also a few things that weren't up to scratch, we did complain about our room on checking in and we were offered two other room's straight away from which we could choose . A few other issues arose which we contacted reception on but to no avail however on our 3rd night stay our fire alarm was bleeping for several hours which in turn led us to meet Front Office Manager Mario Messina ( whom may I say contacted us the following morning following his report of the previous evening shift) we discussed the previous evening event's and also the other issue's that we had previously raised which Mario was genuinely disappointed that he had not been made aware of. Mario listened intently and I can honestly say Mario has restored our faith in real genuine customer care, it is a rare thing these days to find people whom actually are in the job because they love it and want to provide the ultimate experience for their customer's. I expect the staff will be having a talk at there next team meeting re if you cant resolve an issue pass it up the line!! But please don't get me wrong the staff were very warm, attentive and helpful it was generally just tiny issues but in succession it became a calamity, but I can honestly say it appeared our experience's were to be isolated happening's to us only, just unfortunate. However on my own feeling on 5* I would say it's 4* not 5* this being on the room accomodation only but with a few tweek's here and there it would easliy be 5* but again on meeting Mario I can say with him leading his team this hotel will be first class !! I hope this has given a good impression of this hotel and it has helped in your decision to book a stay at The Palace Hotel because it is lovely and be reassured if there ( hopefully not) is anything not to your satisfactory if reception don't fix it ask to speak to the manager in charge and be reassured they will go out of there way to please you. Just one last thing on the evening of our disrupted night the manager in charge I think his name was Manon was under immense pressure but still went out of his way to help us. All in all very impressed with the service we recieved once highlighted to management level we will deffinately be going back !!

We have stayed at this hotel before, on our last visit, the room we had was well located on the the 6th Floor, however the Aircon was not working in the room and the room temperature did not fall below 28 degrees C. We complained on three consecutive days, finally they changed the room, but not without somewhat of a fight.

The pool food was poor, soggy and over-cooked and expensive and not enough shaded seating.

However the views of sliema and Valletta are fabulous.

Room Tip: Ask for 6th Floor and above.
