We stayed there in June for a week as a late booking for a much needed holiday. We couldn't have asked for better (except for maybe a flight that got back other than 3:30am!).

I had seen some comments about the food quality and "... it isn't really 5 star..." but we felt they were unfounded concerns. While there isn't B&O Hi-Fi in the room and some of the things that you can find in very expensive hotels, the service was excellent. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff and everyone was very friendly (as were all the Maltese people). The hotel facilities were also very good - decent gym equipment (not tatty, decrepit stuff), good breakfasts, two pools etc. We wanted feather pillows so a quick phone call and within a few minutes we had them.

We are foodies and never stay half board (never say never...) but this was a half board package so we were slightly concerned. However, we thought the food was very good with plenty of choice. OK, it's a buffet - but a good buffet with something for almost every taste. The TemptAsian restaurant was excellent as well, but most of the time we ate in the buffet restaurant.

The location is good, as long as you don't mind hills (that goes for most of the capital really). Ten minutes down the hill to the water taxis. Buy a one way ticket - while it saves money to buy a return you then have to wait for the right one for the way back.

We found the air conditioning fine - there seem to be some comments about it. My tip is to set the temperature and put the fan on "low", not "auto". On "auto" it comes on and off rather frequently which is not ideal for sleeping. On "low" it just runs gently all night is fine.

The views from our room were stunning - over the roof tops to Valletta. Great to sit out on the balcony at night watching the view. We didn't have any problems with the church bells even though the church was virtually outside our window but then it was hot so we had the window shut and the air conditioning on. If you open the window the air-conditioning shuts off.

The mini-bar seems confusing - empty when you arrive. You ring to get it filled with what you fancy but then get charged for it all. When I checked out I explained what was left in the bar and it was not problem getting the bill corrected, but it seems a strange system. Local beer, rather than imported beer, would have been nice for the mini-bar particularly because there are actually one or two decent local ones (and sold in the bar downstairs) but it was only imported in the mini-bar.

Luggage storage (for our daft flight time home) seemed well organised and secure.

The showers/changing rooms by the gym/indoor pool didn't seem ideal. The floor gets wet by the showers and you cannot avoid that area when you are wanting to walk past. Some wooden slats for when you come out of the shower might be better, and/or some area to dry yourself and change which isn't the through-way.

Overall, we would certainly stay there again. For what we got - the service, food and facilities, it seemed very good value. We didn't hire a car this time, but there was an underground car park which was free to hotel guests. The staff are most welcoming.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at The Palace. We travelled with our son who is 13 months old and had a fantastic time there. All of the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The Manager there was also regularly visible and chatting to guests to check that everything was ok during their stay, which was a nice touch. We were half board so obviously ate in the hotel restaurant (The Tabloid) every evening; the food was of superb quality. Unfortunately, we didn't get to eat at the TemptAsian restaurant on the ninth which was disappointing as the food looked great and the views were spectacular. The location of the hotel was perfect for exploring and getting to where we wanted to! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel, and we are already planning our return visit next year!

Room with a roof terrace, polite, friendly, and helpful staff, terrific breakfast, and an ideal location. This was our second stay, and we'll be back. An added bonus was a complimentary bottle of wine and a bowl of fruit delivered to our room. Short walk to Sliema Ferries, and the rocky shore for swimming.

We stayed one week in September and had a super holiday. The pool on the roof is great for lazy mornings and for evening sundowners, the staff up there are friendly and very helpful. The room was large and very clean with everthing we needed. Man of the hotel for me was Jordon, one of the room cleaners, who not only found me a sewing kit when I tore my skirt on a car bumper but left it with a note and a smiley face, made me smile too. We did not eat in the Hotel as we prefer to go out so cannot pass judgment on this. The location is perfect, yes up the hill from the front but this in turn means it is quiet, and the walks are full of small side roads to be explored. Good supermarket on the corner, well stocked with fruit, water and wine. We will be going back, fingers crossed, next year.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on an upper floor the view from the balcony is worth the wait for the lift or the...

We spent seven days at the Palace in September this year and were very pleased with the hotel. Having done our research, we were aware that it was a short walk from the harbour and sea front and that you could hear church bells and so neither of these caused us concern. Indeed the location we felt was good, being slightly away from the hustle and bustle but also offering ease of access to shops, harbour, ferry to Valletta etc. The hotel manages to combine successfully serving as a holiday base and providing for business clients. The rooftop pool area is excellent and an outstanding feature of the hotel. Fitness facilities are more than adequate, particularly if you choose your time of use carefully. Breakfast was very good, both in terms of variety and quality. We were on half board and the evening buffet was similarly good in variety and quality-although perhaps we would want a change if we stayed for two weeks rather than one. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, making you feel welcome and 'looked after'. Service can occasionally be slow, but this is not a major problem. Sliema is an excellent base from which to explore Malta. We would certainly recommend the Palace and will stay there again when we revisit Malta.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony looking out to Valletta-probably need to be fifth floor or above. You...

Got back yesterday from a sunny week staying at The Palace Hotel, Sliema. This is now our 4th visit in less than 2 years to Malta, we love it here this much. Normally we would stay in St Julians but decided this time to try a different town. The hotel itself is in a lovely quiet location but close enough to the sea front, shops and restaurants, however we still prefer St Julians.
Our room was on the 5th floor, and I have to say it’s the quietest hotel I’ve stayed in, which is a bonus for a light sleeper like myself. The room is really nice and big with a small balcony, it didn’t over look anything interesting but we didn’t mind because we didn’t use it much. The bathroom was also nice and big, however the shower unit looked like it had seen better days, it wasn’t dirty as such just grubby looking and not in par with the rest of the room, the shower lacked water pressure and would switch between hot and cold throughout. Also unless you are close to the person you are sharing the room with the toilet was also a little impersonal, only having a frosted glass door for privacy but open at the top. The beds were 2 singles even though we asked for a double/king room, so we had to push these together but they were very comfortable and the pillows were amazingly soft but still great, and had good sleep.
The rooftop pool had amazing views and plenty of sunbeds, only on the first day did we struggle to get a bed but we turned up at 1pm on a Sunday which I think is the busiest day, there are 2 pools, the main one on the 9th which was a lovely infinity pool, and a smaller one on the 8th floor which was alot quieter and normally less busy. We only had lunch at the hotel but all every meal was very tasty and fresh, would recommend, if we stayed longer we would have liked to have tried dinner there too, maybe next time. Pool bar was great, very quick service and all staff were very attentive.
I had a full body massage at the spa there, it was an hour long and the treatment was very relaxing, not the same as the full body massage I would get here in London but it was still very nice and chilled out.

This hotel is well situated for sightseeing and is also nice and quiet. The facilities were good overall. I especially liked the bathroom and the enormous bed. There were some stains in the shower and the shower itself was a bit on the small side (for any sized adult). We had a pretty good view from the 5th floor overlooking the harbour.

The breakfast was nice with a decent choice. Tea and coffee are constantly being topped up which was good. We ate at the TemptAsian restaurant a couple of times on the 9th floor. The floating basket starter was fabulous! It did have a slightly pretentious feel about it. The manager (I think it was the manager) looked a bit severe. I found this the most off-putting thing about eating up there. I had the butter chicken which I found a bit tasteless but the other dishes were very nice. The views were lovely.

The staff at reception were extremely polite and helpful. They answered the phone incredibly quickly when I rang down to request an iron.

The pool area was fine with plenty of space to sit/lie down. The indoor pool however was not very good at all. It is tiny and way too cold. The shower rooms in the gym area would benefit from soap/shampoo dispensers. The gym was hot and stuffy so after 3 minutes on the treadmill I legged it out of there. I cannot imagine how anybody could do a proper workout in there.

Overall, we were pleased with our choice of hotel but I would rate it as a four rather than a five star. We would probably book elsewhere next time to get more value for money. Malta as a place to visit is amazing and we will definitely be returning soon.

Room Tip: Higher up for good views.
