“A lovely stay with great service”
Reviewed 19 February 2014 via mobile

Our first visit to Malta, and we had a few ideas for the week, the Palace has provided us with a great base to explore Malta and Gozo. Our room surpassed our expectations and we found we had a beautiful view across to Valetta and a balcony to sit and relax. Breakfasts have been excellent, with a great choice. Staff are very helpful but never irritating, the attitude is we hope you just relax and enjoy, if you need anything just ask! We are well placed for a ferry over to Valetta, and I'd recommend a cycle trip on Gozo. All told, I'd say a great place to stay.

Just got back from a lovely week staying at the Palace Malta. we had checked trip adviser before we booked. as most of the comments were good, we booked. we found the hotel to be excellent. OK the bells did give us restless night on the first night. (put that down to not enough wine !!) the rest of the week didn't hear a thing. the TempAsian restaurant was superb, the food was of a high quality and prices reasonable. the staff were most attentive. the breakfast was very good and the staff very nice and friendly. we had a lovely room on the 6th floor looking over towards Valletta with a large balcony that captured the sun all day. All the staff were cheerful and chatty and made us feel at home. would we go their again? you betcha.

danny & barbara shepherd.

Room Tip: ask for the 6th floor looking out towards Valletta.

Dear PurplePeaPortrush,

It is with pleasure and pride that we read of your altogether pleasant stay at The Victoria Hotel during your visit to Malta.

For this reason, I thank you for sharing your thoughts here on TripAdvisor.
Your comment about the method of cooking for the beef dishes has been passed on to our Head Chef as well as the choice of dishes/desserts on the menu.

We look forward to seeing you back at The Palace in the near future.

We stayed ay the Palace for 3 weeks in Jan-Feb 2014 and were generally very pleased. Our room was comfortable with splendid beds, although perhaps a little close to the Stella Maris church clock, and otherwise, spoiled only by the poor over-bath shower! Food at breakfast and dinner was plentiful and of excellent quality, and served by cheerful, attentive staff.

We probably won't visit Malta again because of age and decrepitude, but if we did, we would return to the Palace, without hesitation,

Room Tip: The higher the better!

Dear Audrius S,

While thanking you for sending in your comments, I would like to say that without your feedback we would not know where we stand regarding standards of service at The Palace.

As for Thomas, he is indeed always friendly and ready to help. Your compliments will be passed on to him and I am sure he will be very pleased to hear he was a help to you.

Now for the other staff. It is of great importance that guests are greeted graciously. To this effect I will speak to my Front Office staff and their Heads of Department in order to clear this issue you mentioned.

I extend my apologies in this regard.

Hopefully you will return to The Palace, this time to a warm welcome.

Sincerely,

Kevin Callus

Pros.
Most staff friendly. Clean.located well for visiting valletta.
Cons.
Mattress incredibly soft (we complained but no mattresses available for replacement, only a piece of chipboard that was put under our bed), no separation between room and the toilet in the room.
room service food was expensive and poor (stale food). pool was very cold and spa facilities poor. This is a 3 star hotel. Not recommended.

Room Tip: go to another hotel

We got this hotel for $70 (probably $85 with taxes) through Priceline. They gave us a beautiful room with a balcony. The room was light, airy, and clean. The gym was nice and had a great view of Sliema and St. Julian's. The location of the hotel was also good - maybe a 3-4 min walk from the Promenade and all of its great restaurants. The staff was very nice and gave us adapters for our electronic devices. Look for deep discounts during the low season.

We were recommended to book this hotel by our travel agent, (won't be using them again!) and didn't know what to expect. We were booked into a 'comfort room' and after reading reviews on Tripadvisor before the holiday, I enquired about the 'noise of the church bells close by' and a possible upgrade, to be told by the receptionist 'well, after all, you have only booked a comfort room. The church is across the road, so you would have to upgrade if it concerns you!'
We dined in TemptAsia on the first evening. The food was ok but quite overpriced! We found many nicer (and considerably better value) eateries in the town.
Breakfast in the hotel was pleasant and the selection of food was varied. Andrew was especially friendly and helpful!
The room was a little small and 'tired' but that could've been because it was 'only a comfort room'! We found the temperature slightly 'cool' and couldn't adjust the temperature from the control in the room. Poor selection of English TV stations for a 5 star hotel.
We also used the indoor pool and it wasn't very warm.
Our experience of The Palace certainly wouldn't give us any cause for a return any time soon.

Dear h4dox,

It is a pity and quite disappointing for us to read that your stay at The Palace Hotel did not live up to your full expectations. Our guests' full satisfaction is the main driving force behind our daily endeavours to provide all the comforts and pleasures they expect and more.

As for your comments, I thank you for placing your review on TripAdvisor as it is only through your feedback that we can gauge which areas need improving and which are faring well. It is good to know you enjoyed the breakfast being served and Andrew will be pleased you mentioned him when he is informed of your words.

Also, and, as you might know, the food served at Temptasian is of very high standards and I am glad to hear you enjoyed dining at our exclusive outlet. At Temptasian Rooftop Restaurant our prices are compliant and in line with competing local Asian Fusion establishments. This is an award winning restaurant with breathtakingly spectacular views of the historically rich and picturesque Grand Harbour. Such features make dining at Temptasion Asian Fusion Restaurant that much more of a unique experience and render it a cut above the rest.

As for the rooms, to date, there have not been any complaints or issues regarding the church bells in the Comfort rooms. This tallies since they all overlook the central, inner courtyard of The Palace edifice, thus rendering the area totally unaffected by the said bells.

With regards to the televisions, it so happens that we are currently working on improving our tv system by introducing a system which functions by making full use of the latest technology and provides better channel selection to suit all ages and likes.

At The Palace, customer care is uppermost in everything we do. For this purpose I followed up on your comments about our indoor facilities and our Maintenance Manager informs me that the Indoor Pool is purposely kept at a temperature of 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in comformity with the Malta Health Authority's specifications whereby water bacteria would not be able to grow and flourish.
We are aware that there could well be other indoor pool establishments whose managements turn a blind eye to this. However here at The Palace we put our guests' interest and well-being first and foremost. Therefore we choose not to by-pass legislation and conscientiously stick to the general rule.

Perhaps another stay at The Palace would help to dispel the doubts you have felt on this particular stay.

It would be a pleasure to welcome you back.

Sincerely,

Kevin Callus
