“quiet hotel”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

Out of season stay so generally quiet throughout Malta. Yes there are church bells but with 365 plus churches on the island what do you expect? They did not disturb our general sleep pattern. All islanders are friendly so staff in hotel are eager to help and are attentive. Andy and Dorianne are particularly friendly and wish to improve services. Room was large and comfortable. Food at breakfast very good for all palates.
Only downside would be the hill from coast for the infirm or unfit individual albeit only a short distance. However would revisit at a moments whim.

Room Tip: Higher floors (6 and above) have beautiful views of harbour and coast

Dear steve c,

In your preview regarding your recent stay at The Palace you mentioned amongst other things, the peaceful surroundings once inside the hotel.

Our aim is focused amongst other factors, on providing a haven from life outside, guaranteeing tranquillity, relaxation and all sanctuary required in making a holiday all the more enjoyable and pleasant.

Breakfast at Tabloid Restaurant is enjoyed by many and we appreciate your kind comments regarding this service.

Your positive feedback will be passed on to all relative staff, especially Dorianne and Andy.

Sincerely,

The Palace Hotel, Sliema, is in an ideal position - 10 minutes from Sliema front, and the same from the ferries. Either way, it's a little bit hilly, but not excessively so. The hotel is really nice - elegant foyer, helpful staff. We had booked a deluxe room with Low Cost holidays, but decided to upgrade to a superior room (by email) at a cost of 25 euros a night. It was well worth it. We were on a higher floor, with a huge and elegant room, with a terrace with sunbeds and a terrific view over the roof tops and across the harbour to Valetta. We thought we'd try out local restaurants, but having walked our legs off all day (particularly in wonderful Valetta) we ate in the Talbot restaurant in the hotel each night. They offered a 25 Euro buffet which had everything you could want - hors d'oeuvre, soups, fish, meats, fruit, desserts, and wonderful cheeses. Breakfast was similarly good. Watch out for taxi drivers and buggy rides - make sure that you fix a price before taking up any offers. The bus service was incredible - a seven day ticket cost 6.5 Euros!! We did both the north and south tours, and found them very good for seeing all the island and getting your bearings. The 'Medina Experience' in Valetta was over-priced, but the sacred hospital and the war museum were well worth a visit. All-in-all, if you've never been, Malta is a most interesting (and enjoyable) experience (as is The Palace!).

My wife and I have just returned from a week at the Palace. Service from all members of staff was first class and all enquiries were dealt with with a smile. The hotel is in the centre of Sliema and quite a long walk up steep hilly streets to reach it from the waterside. We had a room at the rear of the building and had our own little patio (not that we used it much due to the rain). I would suggest that if you are going there you should ask for a rear room as the ones at the front are over a fairly busy but narrow rat-run street. Minor design comment about the shape of the room. Being a semi circled building the room was a segment in shape with the door at the pointy end and the patio at the far end. The en suite bathroom however did not have a wall right to the ceiling. The W/C did have full height walls but the door stopped about 6" from the floor. Net result of this wall configuration and the shape of the room meant that the sound of every toot, drip and plop from the W/C was highly amplified. Not withstanding the sound effects the room was very well furnished and in good decorative order. We dined in the hotel's Tabloid Restaurant for breakfast and diner one night. Great selection at breakfast but dinner quality not great and quite expensive for a buffet. We also tried the Taste of Asia restaurant on the 9th floor. They had a Curry night and for 25 Euros each we had a five course dinner with a bottle of wine. One of the nicest curries we have had outside our local curry-house. Food is also available in the Talk of the Town lounge. This has a bar snack menu (wraps, tacos, burgers, salads, pastas etc) but quality was great and portion sizes were enormous. The indoor swimming pool is a bit on the small side , impossible to do any real swimming if there are more than five or six people in - pool is rated for max 18 persons. Outdoor roof pool was not open during our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for an inside room.

Dear raemoirman,

Whilst thanking your for the positive and detailed review you have kindly placed here on TripAdvisor, I would like to say that your comments and suggestions are much appreciated by all at The Palace.

It is also good to see that you availed yourselves of our indoor facilities area, which has recently been refurbished and is very popular with our guests.

As for Tabloid Restaurant and Temptasian Rooftop Asian Fusion Restaurant, these two outlets too are widely popular with locals and hotel guests alike, so it is with great pleasure that I read of your pleasant meals there as well.

We look forward to seeing you back at The Palace for more relaxing stays in the near future.

Sincerely,

Spent our wedding anniversary here recently. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was of a high standard and the other facilities (pool, sauna, etc) were impressive.
The location of the hotel is good - just a short walk from the main strip in Sliema, with a regular ferry service over to Valletta.
We boarded on a B&B basis. The breakfast was OK, but not great. The usual buffet stuff. The food in the associated bar was of an even lower standard. Didn't try the main restaurant, which claimed to be a Fusion of Indian and Chinese cuisines.

We keep coming back here time after time, because of the excellent service from the friendly staff. Even when we stay with family, we visit the talk of town bar, to see our favourite barman in Malta- Jovin. We love it so much we are getting married here in May.

Everything was perfect. Amazing breakfast, attentive staff always smiling. Good location for ferries and buses (the local buses are easy to use and cost Euro1.50 for a whole day). Comfortable and quiet Superior room on the 5th floor. Distant views of the sea over the crowded rooftops. The only place to stay in Sliema.
