“Excellence at its best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2014

We have just returned from a 4night break in Malta. Never having been before we settled for a 5 Star Spa hotel with good reviews. We'll it certainly lived up to its name. Arrival was smooth, although as stated rooms not ready until 3pm, so we took in the south tour of the island before final check in. The service was excellent from concierge to reception to waiting staff. The rooms were fantastic, we booked superior rooms on the 8th floor, they had sea views and were of a high standard. Breakfast was included and again was of a high standard and plenty to choose from, from local cuisine to full English. We used the spa having pre booked before leaving the UK, this was just along the corridor and just added to the already excellent experience.
We even sampled the Temptasian restaurant ( previous review), this is an absolute must and was made even more welcoming with the service from Brian (knew his stuff), Saber ( soo funny, but excellent waiter) and the manager Marc (for whom nothing was too much trouble), this is an absolute must when visiting Sliema and this hotel.
I can't praise this hotel and staff any more they were all fantastic, polite, friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
I would highly recommend staying here, Malta was beautiful, the hotel just made it all worth while.
Thank you to all the staff.
Recommend - Most certainly and will stay again when we visit Malta.

Room Tip: Go for a good room on a high floor, you won't be disappointed.

This is now our third visit to The Palace, all of them for two or three weeks, and this is my second post. The Palace continues to be ideally located for visiting the whole of Malta, just a few minutes walk to the Sliema Ferries bus terminus, yet tucked away in a side street of elegant stone buildings. But the thing that really made me write this post after returning from our most recent visit, and after comparing this hotel in my mind to others we have stayed at on Malta (the Hilton, the Intercontinental and the Corinthia Palace), is that this is a *happy* hotel. For a start, most the staff have been there for several years, and they are efficient and comfortable in doing their jobs, which gives them a good basis to develop relaxed relationships with customers. Second, the management has a policy of encouraging the staff to greet guests with a smile - and by name if they know it - and to go out of their way to be helpful. And this includes *all* the staff, even maintenance and cleaning staff you pass in the corridor. But most of all, the staff give every indication that they like doing the job they do. Hard to put a value on all this, but it is worth a lot.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views

The hotel was welcoming and the staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms are modern and clean. The food is well cooked and there is plenty of choice. The puddings leave a bit to be desired but are OK. Breakfasts are particularly good with lots of choice. Hotel is only a few minutes walk from the seafront and the shops. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel as there is a church opposite and the bells ring every 15 mi...

I stayed for the months of Feb and Mar 2014 at the Palace. Overall I was quite satisfied especially with the Service and the always caring staff in all sections of the hotel. The breakfast has such a great variety that in 8 weeks I always enjoyed it and when I requested, I got special attention.
At my next stay I will again stay in The Palace.

Room Tip: for a good view, try to get a room from sixth to ninth floor

On arrival at Sliema, I was concerned as our transport seemed to delve deeper and deeper into the backstreets away from the promenade. We then came to this Oasis of style, quality and modern design facing a small Chapel and traditional old Maltese houses.

Any apprehension was immediately lifted when we were greeted by a friendly red coated member of staff. Within minutes we were up in our Comfort room which was I believe the sixth floor. It had a beautiful desk, 32" flat screen TV, Minibar/fridge, twin beds, a great bathroom and adequate wardrobe space. There was no view as such as it looked out into a courtyard appearance atrium. This meant you could not keep your blinds open as others could see in. This was a minor problem as the room was spacious enough. There was a choice of several restaurants, an amazing roof top pool, and the lobby was super for people-watching. All the staff very extremely approachable and helpful although the bar staff were a bit 'cool' so we did not really use it.

Breakfast was European/British and very tasty and other meals we had were great. I actually thought the hotel was almost empty as it was the most quiet disciplined hotel I have stayed in which made my stay restful and made sleeping way too easy. At breakfast I learned that the hotel was 95% full as was evident in the number of people at breakfast - yet there was more than adequate seating for all and no long queues which is ideal.

The beds were incredible and I could only compare them to being as comfortable (nearly) to the Sofitel hotel beds across the world which are unbeatable. Linen changed as requested and great cleaning job carried out by the staff again as requested . It has to be the best hotel I have stayed in for staff friendliness except the slight lack of engagement by the bar staff.

4 minutes walk to a sizable supermarket stocking everything you might need and more, at very reasonable prices. 2 minutes away up the hill to a small bar the Salisbury - brilliant for football fanatics and pub grub. It is very small so you need to get in early. Newsagent, bakery all within a minutes walk. Two promenades are within a 10 to 15 minute walk and taxis can be booked from the hotel if needed. One note of care - the streets nearby are a it steep in parts and not always suited to poor balance or those who are disabled.

Disabled I may be, but would I go here again - damn right I would. I really felt at home here and the only downside was the poor TV channel choices but then if you want that you can use pay movies.

Tried to book again for the Autumn but it was solidly booked for the next few months and at full price. Will make sure to return soon!

Room Tip: You get what you pay for here, but I suggest a high floor, the comfort rooms have no view but offer...

This hotel is fabulous. The facilities are excellent.it is worth paying to stay in a suite or superior room from the 5th floor upwards. Preferably facing the harbour ,if you like a stunning view. The breakfast is very good, caters for everyone with attention to detail. The Asian restaurant on the 9th floor is above 5 star in my opinion, with attentive staff and very good food.special mention to all staff ,but would like to mention a few names. This is our fifth stay at the Palace Hotel and we have found it to be our favourite hotel in Malta by far, due to the terrific location, the excellence of the hotel itself and especially the superb 5 star quality service that we receive throughout each of our stays. A special mention goes to Moul Hajjar, The Palace's Assistant Front Office Manager, who, on every occasion, from our very first stay at the hotel, has gone that extra mile to ensure that our stay is a truly magnificent 5 Star + experience. We thoroughly recommend this hotel.
