“Good for body & soul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

I spent two nights at the Palace in June 2014. I am always impressed by how customer service-minded the Maltese are and this was no exception. It goes without saying that the location is ideal. Stepping out onto a 8th-floor terrace overlooking the harbour at sunset, one feels all worries melt away. The room was spacious and well-equipped, though no hair conditioner (bring or buy your own!). The Asian fusion restaurant "Tempt-asian," also overlooking the harbour, is the antidote to stress with amazing food and attentive staff. Hats off to staff at the hotel's spa, who went out of their way to book appointments that would accommodate a cramped schedule. Overall, I was really pleased with the experience, and will definitely be repeating it.

Excellent hotel, friendly and experienced staff. Location is great for persons without children. Staff recommended excellent restaurants. Decor is fine -rooms are fine - views are not great due to location in old area.

Chose the Palace for location and from reviews. Not disappointed by either. The rooms were spacious and we went for the cheaper atrium view so no view from the room except for the street. The tiny veranda we didn't use as the pool area was substantial and there were always sun beds available. The pool ws quite cold but refreshing in the heat. Service at the pool w exceptional and although we only ordered drinks the food looked ok too.
Didn't use the indoor pool or spa or any of the restaurants so can't comment on these.
Location was just right as long as you can manage a fairly steep hill walk of about 5 mins from the Sliema ferries berth. By far the nicest way to travel to Valetta. Buses leave from the same point and are cheaper being only 1,50 return as opposed to 1.50 each way by ferry but its quicker and cooler.
Choice of restaurants in the area very good. We used army and navy for breakfast and it was far cheaper than the hotel.
Staff in the hotel very friendly and welcoming not at all stuffy as you might expect.
Would definitely stay here again.

We had a lovely week’s holiday at The Palace in Sliema in early June 2014, & can thoroughly recommend it. You can believe all the good things that have been said about it, & perhaps take some of the bad with a pinch of salt. We were given a room upgrade to a Junior Suite on the 4th floor with a wonderful balcony view across the harbour to Valletta, so that got the stay off to a good start. We thought all the staff were all very friendly & helpful, especially Andrew on the front door & Dorianne the Guest Relations Officer, the whole hotel was very attractive, & the food & service was generally very good. The rooftop infinity pool was lovely, & for getting about Malta & to Valletta, the location was also excellent.

You can read plenty of reviews telling you the good things about this hotel, so there’s not a lot of point in me repeating them, so here are a few words of warning that might influence your decision:

1. If you have a room with a good view, you’ll also get the church clock bells across the street striking every quarter as well! We decided that the good room & lovely view were worth keeping rather than try another room (which they did offer) but which may not be so good, & just bought some foam ear plugs which shut out the noise well enough to give us a good night’s sleep on the VERY comfortable bed. Well done to The Palace on the bed comfort – all you have to do now is issue every guest with a pair of ear plugs!
2. The food was very nice, but we could understand another reviewer’s comment that they had trouble finding something they liked at times. If you like your food on the plain side, you could struggle, as the chef does tend to over-complicate everything with spices & sauces – a plain option here & there would help the choices. However, there were no complaints about desserts! At most hotels, the puddings look great but generally disappoint, but here they taste as good as they look – well done on the sweet side Palace.
3. Inevitably, due to its location, there is a bit of a climb up to the hotel from the waterfront. It only takes 5 minutes to walk down, but at the end of a hot tiring day out, it can be a bit of a trudge back up! Fine if you’re reasonably fit, but do be aware if you are not as fit as you should/like to be. We are in our mid-60’s & in reasonable shape (we did the round trip 2 or 3 times some days), but it was enough to put us off going down for a stroll along the prom most evenings.
4. The A/C wasn’t working in the rooms for most of our time there, & we never really got an adequate explanation or apology. The trouble is, we needed the balcony doors shut at night because of the bells, & night-time temperatures were around 19C, so we did struggle a bit with the heat. They should have got that sorted a lot quicker.

There were some very nice touches about the hotel, including the complimentary bottle of wine left in our room from Dorianne; the refreshing cold drinks in the lobby to revive you after the climb back up from the harbour; the lovely Tempt Asian restaurant on the top floor, with incredible views over to Valletta; & the easy access to cruises & bus/coach transport. However, overall I think we’d rate The Palace 4.5 stars rather than 5 – they just need to sharpen up in a few areas. Lovely holiday though – thank you Palace.

Room Tip: You need to be on the 4th floor or above for the best views, but be aware that the best views come w...

Palace is probably one of the best choices in Sliema, and despite it's not directly at the sea promenade the location is super.

+ amazing views from room (was on 7th floor)
+ balcony
+ big room, lots of space
+ big bathroom, had both bath and shower cabin
+ nice fitness / spa
+ very good breakfast
+ staff very helpful
+ coffee machine at the room
+ wifi

Why not full 5?
- room needs renovation, stains here and there. Toilet as well would need little upgrade
- nice coffee machine but cups didnt match to it
- spa area wasnt clean (lots of towels here and there, and floors didnt seem to be washed for some time)
> lacks attention to detail what 5 stars should definately have

Safety choice anyway, and beats most of the hotels in Malta for sure!

Room Tip: ask for sea view

This is the 3rd time we chose to stay in this hotel and this time it was a little special - we were getting married. The hotel kindly upgraded us..... what a room and what a view ! Many of our guests also stayed in the hotel and were equally impressed, so much so that some are already planning a return visit. The breakfasts are good with much choice, the rooms modern, spacious and clean, and the views from the rooftop swimming pool are stunning. The service from all the staff was top notch. Special mentions for Dorianne, Thomas and Andrew who were particularly welcoming. Thanks to the Palace for making our wedding week one we'll never forget !

I stayed here in July 2013 on a business trip.

The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are outstanding with fabulous views across the city.

The beds are extremely comfy and I had a great nights sleep here. The air conditioning is particularly useful and it quite quiet as well so will not disturb your sleep.

The bathroom was great and was extremely spacious and had both a bath and a separate shower cubicle.

I would definitely recommend this hotel!
