Description: La Mère is tucked away past the old 'Suq Tal' Belt'. Rustic wooden tables blend with Middle Eastern décor, matching the unique theme of two great cuisines - Indian and Middle Eastern. A small, intimate dining area, and flickering candles, give a warm, homely feel. However, the tables are spaced enough that you do not feel cramped. Servers are attentive and knowledgeable on the wide choice available in the menu. Here, our desire is to present a repertoire of authentic dishes, bursting with flavour, certainly a multi-sensory experience. The menu offers a broad selection of starters, allowing you to whet your palate with a Lebanese spiced lamb sausage, or enjoy mussels and chorizo in coconut milk. Mains are similarly varied, giving you a choice of curries, or perhaps king prawns or lamb chops cooked in the tandoor. Our new menu also presents a selection of main dishes with a fusion twist, such a marinated filet of fish wrapped in banana leaf. There is also a good choice of vegetarian, vegan, lactose and gluten free options. Besides we have introduced a menu degustation, an extensive wine list, cocktails and whiskeys and a broad selection of homemade desserts such as chocolate filled samosas with mango and coconut, assorted baklava, pistachio and ricotta briouats with halva ice-cream.

This place has an interesting mix of indian and european food. The Indian food will be continental spicy, not Malta spicy (meaning those of us who have burned our taste buds off will still be able to taste the spice). Even the white rice is done very well.
The only negative is the food is delivered via dumbwaiter that is fairly loud.

Having read the reviews I was looking forward to eating here. Although the service was fine, both of us found the food a little too salty for our tastes... Price wise it is definately reasonable however not quite what I expected from a taste perspective.

La Mere is one of my favourite restaurants in Malta, I mostly order the Indian or Arabian cuisine and all the food has been delicious, flavourful and a healthy portion size. I find the restaurant unpretentious, a relaxed atmosphere great for couples and friends. The staff are friendly and it has always been an enjoyable evening. I recommend booking as its a smaller restaurant and usually busy.

Dear Reviewer & esteemed customer,
We would like to thank you for your positive review. Glad you enjoyed your visit at our restaurant. As always, we try our utmost to offer good food, service and ambience at good value. So, thanks for your support, much appreciated.
May I take the opportunity to clarify that the management of our restaurant is in no way affiliated with Sharma Ethnic Cuisine and Theos of Mdina. Just came across your other review and the mention of our restaurant name through a search engine alert, hence this is just a clarification to avoid any unnecessary confusion.
Thanks once again and we hope to see you soon at our restaurant.

The ambiance may not be much, but the food surely is. This is fast becoming our favorite Indian restaurant in Malta (probably not only ours, as it is full each time we visit!). Cannot add much more to my previous review... Good food, good service....

These were our fifth and sixth visits to La Mere over three trips to Valletta over the last four years - we were so keen to dine there again we made sure to book a table for our first night in town and went back later in the week! We almost always opt for the Indian dishes; the vegetable makanwala is to die for. Portion sizes are just right, and the price is very reasonable. There are plenty of very interesting vegetarian options. The quality of food has never wavered and we would thoroughly recommend this place to visitors and locals alike.
