Small, but good. Nice ambience and service and good food. Not cheap, but value for money. I like the menu on the blackboard, and the informal atmosphere.

Had a very pleasant lunch in this small rustic restaurant (approx. 30 covers) just a couple of minutes from Palace Square in the centre of Valletta. Reception was genuinely pleasant and friendly, and service was attentive but not intrusive throughout.
There was no printed menu, as it changes daily, according to what is fresh and available in the market. Everything was on the blackboard, 6 starters, 6-7 mains, and 5 desserts. I was advised not to have starter and mains if I wanted dessert as well, as this would be too much!
I settled for a starter, served as a larger portion as a main course. An absolutely gorgeous prawn and mushroom risotto (EUR10 as a starter or EUR15 as mains). It was very well cooked, the rice moist and of a lovely consistency, fresh sweet tasting juicy prawns, and brown mushrooms with herbs. A small green salad was served on the side with very good olive oil and balsamico. I had a glass of very decent local Merlot to go with it. My lemon cheesecake was simply delicious, served with a light vanilla sauce and fresh strawberries. The drizzled honey to finish off the dish was totally superfluous in my opinion. Espresso was good. The bill for the above, plus sparkling water, but before tip was EUR30, ok for Malta.
The toilet was very clean, but the ladies flushed very sluggishly. When I arrived for lunch quite early, the place was almost empty, but filled up quickly. Shame, they don't have any outdoor seating, but as mentionned above, the interior is very cosy.

Ambrosia is one of our favourite restaurants in Malta's. Yes, it has a limited menu like all the better restaurants around the world and the chef does everything on that limited menu very well. We tried and loved everything on the menu as we eat there on a regular basis when we visit Malta. And like all good things in life, we don't mind paying a little premium to enjoy excellent food, splendid wine and great homely service in a pleasant surrounding.

The number of tables is quite small, so it is best to reserve. The menu is not displayed outside, which might be off-putting for some, but it is quite wide ranging and changes on a regular basis according to availability. Great portions and excellent quality served by pleasant and friendly staff. Interesting décor and great atmosphere. Perhaps, a little more expensive by Maltese standards but great value for money and certainly worth a visit.

The food here was wonderful! the service was good, didn't have to wait long for our meals either. It is more expensive, but I don't mind paying more if the meals are great and these were!
