The apartment, location and service were all fantastic. The building has been expertly renovated to be modern and comfortable, yet retains a real sense of history. We will definitely stay here again the next time we're in Malta.

Palazzo Citta Valletta - is a very unusual place. Excellently located in the center of Valletta, within walking distance from most of the places of interest. Very well decorated and maintained. Frank - the owner , put all his soul in renovation of this old Maltese house. Staying in this magical place was unique experience for me and my mother.

Room Tip: It doesn't make any difference. All rooms are great.

We stayed in October for 8 brilliant nights. I have never stayed in a more friendly place. Frank, the owner and manager, was helpful and supremely knowledgeable about Valletta. The Palazzo is not easy to spot as there is no obvious sign, but fortunately guests are offered an airport pick up. The building has been perfectly restored - we stayed in the courtyard room which had a comfortable double bed, a small - but functional shower/toilet room - and a well-equipped kitchenette. It had no external windows which had the advantage of it being quiet but meant that there was limited external light. But as we had the whole of the fascinating city of Valletta and the Island of Malta to explore it really did not matter. But the kitchenette allowed us to have hot drinks and breakfast before heading off to explore. The Palazzo is central and a short walk from the main tourist areas and from the main bus station which has buses to anywhere on the Island. There are also one or two interesting small Maltese bars nearby which are worth visiting. If you want to see Valletta this is the place to stay. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. If you lived there you could not feel more at home. We will go back.
The scores below may not seem to add up to an excellent rating but this is one of those places where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Splendid place to stay.

Room Tip: There are rooms upstairs with external windows but anywhere in the Palazzo seemed to be fine.

I have just returned from 10 nights at the Palazzo Citta Valletta and was sorry when it came time to return home. I am a solo traveller (mature female) and was apprehensive about being away from home over the Christmas period, but need not have been. Valletta is a very beautiful city & the Palazzo is very central - easy walking distance from all the major sites, shopping areas and cafes and if you need to venture further afield the public transport links are excellent (buses & ferries). I did not venture too far out of Valletta (Sliema, Marsaxlokk & Mdina) as there was just so much do do in Valletta itself. I had planned to go to Gozo but decided that with the short days I would not have the time to do it justice so will do this another time (a good excuse to return!!).

The accommodation is large and very clean. Rooms are cleaned and towels etc replaced daily. I had a small balcony at the front of the house, which overlooked St Paul Street, and another sitting area at the back which overlooked the courtyard. If the front balcony door was open traffic was quite noisy - especially when delivering & removing the skips from the building a few doors up that is under going renovation. That said the bedroom was quiet and the traffic did not impact on my sleep quality. The building itself is beautiful and it has been fitted out well. Coming in after a long day to a warm and welcoming lobby that is lit up with many tea candles was great. The property is steeped with history, which added to my experience, and I was very lucky to have a chat with Frank (the owner) who told me about the history of the house and the area. I felt extremely safe & secure in the accommodation and also whilst exploring this gorgeous city.

On the whole the flat was kitted out well and the free Wi-fi (one of the reasons I booked this accommodation) is a real bonus and I never encountered any problems connecting to this. If I am to be picky there are just a couple of things that I thought could maybe be improved upon?
The kitchenette is fairly well equipped and having salt/pepper, tea coffee and cleaning solutions provided is very good (& unusual in self-catering lets). However, I would have liked a few more plastic containers and / or small dishes to put things into in the fridge, and having another free socket near the area where the kettle is would be good. There is only one which meant that the toaster and the kettle / coffee machine could not be used at the same time. The saucepans are all large and a small one would be useful (to heat small amounts of things, such as milk) as there is no microwave. If you are eating out everyday this is not a problem but as I was alone and there for quite a few nights I did spend a lot of time in the apartment in the evening. The bottle of wine and water that are there on arrival is a nice touch. Likewise, I received another bottle of wine and some chocolates for Christmas day which was a lovely gesture. Overall a very positive experience and I would certainly book this accommodation again.

The Palazzo is characterful, beautifully equipped, well run and blissfully quiet although only metres from the centre of this attractive city. Late December was warm but breezy, the city was alive with seasonal shoppers and many attractive bars and restuarants.

Excellent accommodation looked after by friendly Frank.

Palazzo Citta Valletta is a historic residence now wonderfully restored, creating an atmosphere that evokes the nobles of long ago but with all the comforts and conveniences one could want. Everything is maintained in spotless condition. The apartments are organized around a garden oasis courtyard, are fully equipped, quiet, and decorated with an artistic eye - creating an experience that is quite unique. Palazzo Citta Valletta is located within a short walk of the museums/historic sites, bus/ferries, great restaurants, and shopping. The owner, Franck, is a charming, perfect host. He ensured that all the arrangements ran smoothly, from pickup at the airport to our departure. He was ready with suggestions and information that one would never find in a guidebook. We had a memorable 2 week vacation and would be more than happy to stay again.

Lovely apartment in a beautiful old Palazzo built in 1622. Frank has blended the ancient and modern perfectly and the place is teeming with character. Frank even arranged a pickup at the airport so no problems with finding the location and getting settled in immediately. Perfect location for restaurants and activities in Valletta. There are some fun bars just around the corner and its a short walk from the bus terminus from which you can travel all over the island for a 12 euro weekly travel card. Maid service every day and nothing too much trouble for Frank.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Palazzo Citta Valletta is a 16th century Palazzo located on the “High” side of Valletta, a much sought after location, on one of its principal streets. The house is one of the earliest to be built in the city when two smaller houses dating to around 1580 were joined and remodeled in 1622 in the understated Baroque style so typical of the buildings of that era in Malta. As is typical with most layouts of the time, the building revolves around a large central courtyard or patio. A door and hall large enough to take a coach and horses connects to the street. Cellars housed the stables, the ground floor the kitchens and the first floor the servants’ quarters. On the second floor called the “Piano Nobile” lived the gentry. Various important Maltese families have occupied the house and for a period of years it was also the headquarters of a leading commercial company. The house was locked up for numerous years until a careful and loving restoration was commenced some years ago under the direct supervision of the present owner. The result is a subtle mix of traditional and modern within an imposing structure albeit full of elegance and charm.Just one hundred meters from San Gwann Square the main square of Valletta, the Valletta fruit and vegetable market, food stores and 10 minutes from Malta's main bus terminal. The “Patron”’ of the house has opened the house to a few select guests wishing to relive the splendor of Valletta’s glorious past. A totally new concept in Maltese hospitality not unlike Riyadhs in Morocco, Paradores in Spain and Posadas in Portugal, a unique experience to share in the day to day living within an authentic 16/17th century “Maison de Ville”. Palazzo Valletta offers a high end lodging alternative to hotel accommodation in Malta, at very competitive rates.A total of only four suites ranging from a ground floor junior suite to a de luxe penthouse with panoramic views are grouped around the central patio, the heart of the house. Each suite comes with cotton bed linen, anti allergen pillows and mattress and silk bed covers, pure cotton towels, fluffy cotton bathrobes, cutting edge Italian design kitchen and appliances from a well known brand, Italian bright ceramic bathroom tiles.Daily maid serviced with regular change of towels, pillow cases and sheets. ... more   less
