My mum is malteste and my dad is English, and I know Malta very well. We decided to have our wedding reception there, and basically if you have great attention to detail and expect the best, DON'T go to this hotel.

Rooms- small and pokey.

Service- I expected first class for 1st class prices, and I was disappointed. Eg No chocolate on the pillow at night, no one to hold the heavy doors open for u when you enter the hotel etc

Food- ok quality but very expensive

We picked this hotel because of its history and charm, but they rest was a big disappointed. WARN any potential bides or guests not to bother.

The hotel is very good inside, great rooms on the fourth floor( i think these have had a makeover) we paid extra for a superior room and had a great view of the harbour where the cruise ships came in and out.It was our wedding anniversary and the hotel left a large chocolate cake in the room for us a really nice touch thank you.The room(412) was really quiet and we slept well every night shame there is no balcony. The hotel being near the bus terminal and Valletta center is a good location.Breakfasts great, full fry if you want, eggs cooked to order as well as omeletts and the usual continental plus fresh fruit and sparkling wine. The pool area is a mess, broken parasoles all tatty and worn by the pool bar, plastic cups and old tissues left lying around after a wedding event, just barely enough sunbeds to go around, very limited menu and very expensive water, a large bottle 5.50 euros. The hotel is 5*.The staff in the hotel 5*.The pool area and the staff around the pool 2*.Would i stay again only if they revamp the pool. This is the only thing letting it down.

Room Tip: high floor and pay for superior harbour view

I had lived in Malta in the 60s and decided to take my wife for a trip down memory lane . The Hotel was super, my only disappointment was the room with a poor view. Coming from. Its great location superb brakfasts and lovely dinners although expensive. The ambience was beautiful. I do hope to visit again. I agree the swimming pool is not in a good spot and the gardens could do with a makeover. Remodeling this section could make the hotel excellent I do hope I can come back.

Room Tip: From the web site all rooms looked the same. I would have paid more for the small balcony.

This hotel is perfectly located next to Valetta and the central bus station. Rooms are spacious, clean, the staff is friendly. It is an old hotel, quite well renovated. It has this fading feeling but it's nice. The breakfast was good, but not worth the 15 Euros per person that we paid, on discount!

Old hotel starting to fade, however great service and food, rooms well appointed and the hotel has a great location if you prefer the city and very easy access to the rest of the island via arriva coaches. just over 2 euros gets you anywhere on the island for that day. Down side is the pool area is very poor , and the poolside service is abysmal, not enough beds, pool too small and hotel staff will leave glasses on tables all day, The pool bar staff are happy to pour you a large glass of coke from a plastic bottle and then ask you for 4.5 euros! incredible mark up. Many people took there own drinks into the pool area. A shame. All in all we enjoyed the stay and would return if we visited Malta again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 4th 5th floor are the best

Well positioned for the center of Valletta and local buses. Not all rooms have balcony's but are well appointed and comfortable. Pleasant bar area and dining room, excellent breakfast. Pool are now very dated and not enough room for sufficient sunbeds. Staff excellent throughout. Attracts a few boring 'darlings' but that can be said of most 5* hotels. Have stayed at the nearby Grand Hotel Excelsior which is more modern with a better pool area and views.
