Our plane was delayed and we arrived at the Phoenicia at 3:00 AM. There was a friendly warm welcome--even at that hour. The service during our stay was excellent. There was always someone at the front desk to help. Our room's view of the harbor was beautiful. The bed and linens were comfortable. The location is good for walking to the sites in Valetta. Wifi worked well in the lobby, but none in the room. We only had breakfast there--no other meals. Only downside--the furnishings are a little tired. All in all, though, a good stay.

The Hotel Phoenicia is a stunning building close the Old Town, literally within walking distance.
The building / foyer has a sense of stepping back in time & is quite beautiful.
We did not stay at this Hotel but chose to eat here one evening in the Fine Dining Restaurant (Not the Pegasus, so don't confuse).
Service was good, atmosphere was fine but the food was very basic & bland. We paid 100 euros for a couple and was not satisfied overall.
Food was industrial, presented nicely but very low quality, very disappointed.
Hotel looks nice to stay in as a guest, however.

Just had three nights at the 1940s Hotel Phoenicia in Floriana, Malta. The hotel is one of Malta's treasures for several reasons - its landmark site between the two harbours and under the ramparts of Valetta; its V-shaped design which provides fabulous views for nearly every room; its excellent breakfast with several Maltese specialities; its varied restaurants and bars (we settled into the Club Bar's terrace and the Pool Bar); its very extensive gardens and pool; and its pleasant and helpful staff. It also provides tea and coffee facilities in the rooms, which have vast storage allowing guests to unpack and put away their suitcases, making for a more pleasant space.

We travelled in a small group and other group members were similarly impressed by the hotel and its staff.

While you don't stay in a 1940s hotel to enjoy contemporary decoration, some refurbishment and investment un upgraded rooms and facilities would be welcome. Apparently the hotel is about to renovate its pool area, which has outstanding potential.

We liked it and would happily stay again at the Phoenicia!

We booked this restaurant as the hotel had good reputation on booking we had contact with two Managers and felt confident that our meal would be nothing short of excellent.
The meal was booked for 19 00 we arrived early, we where second in the restaurant, we where going to the Notte Bianca in Valletta, and time was important we planed to have just a starter and main expecting around an hour for this.
only one starter ordered a Lobster Ravioli with a Lobster Bisque, This had either been partialy cooked and left to go cold or not cooked at all for the edges of the Ravioli where Hard as if drying out, the Bisque was weak pink and watery just a nothing compliment to the Ravioli two centres of the Ravioli tried but cold and tasteless and we waited 40 min for this, we where asked if a problem I said the plate said it all.

The mains my wife had a Crab Spagettioni this was so hard it was inedible with again weak taste was left looking as it had not been touched, my Rabbit Cacciator really just looked a mess on the plate the rabbit was on a bed of mashed potato with all kinds of bits of veg over and round it, the Ju/Sauce /Gravy had been poured over but the potato absorbed it all leaving none for the Rabbit and as Rabbit tends to be a dry meat this made the plate pointless, also I expected to at least be given the saddle of Rabbit not the meat striped from the rear legs it sort of made you think that the best cuts where in the hotels main restaurant and the Brassiere was second best. I picked at my meal and called for the bill ,was asked again was there a problem I repeated just look at the plates, no head waiter nothing it was now approaching 20 45 for two Courses??.

But we where not the only tables to complain, the table in front of us waited 10 + mins for lemon for her fish starter not happy, to our rear both tables complained of the meal being to dry. another table to the front of us asked for "Tuna Tata" the lady asked if this was cooked? the head waiter said no, but the woman was confused at this the head waiter said I will cook it for you??so when the said Tuna Tata arrived he took out of his pocket a small gas torch and proceeded to cook said Tata with a small spoon turning the tuna at this I did look for the camera
this was madness 6 tables of 2, 4 complaining and 1 with cooked Tuna Tata.

we where not offered any apology, but in truth in my 70 years I have never experienced anything like this be it 5 star or two star and can only say that probably it is safe to eat here now for they must have sacked both chef and manager,

My bill number 257557

Dear Mr Rowland,

Many thanks for taking the time to share on Tripadvisor your experience at the Pegasus Restaurant.

I am very sorry to learn that your dinner with us did not fulfil your expectations, as that is exactly what we at the Phoenicia are striving to do on a daily basis; we take such comments in a constructive manner and rest assured they have been shared with the waiting staff as well as the culinary team as it is only by learning the guests’ experiences that we can continue improving.

I investigated the incident in detail, given the shortfalls experienced, and I feel I must share with you some of our findings: according to our records (our point-of-sale terminal), your order was placed at 19.15 and the bill was presented at 20.35; although our concept of cuisine is working with limited preparation in order to ensure freshness of products and preparation, I am sure you will agree that 1h20min for a 2-course meal is within the norm in similar establishments. Furthermore, many a time we host guests who have commitments after their meal and, by letting us know in advance, we often manage to prioritise orders and speed up the service.

Regarding your comments about the quality of our food, we sincerely apologise for this shortfall, however we do regret that your disappointment was not shared directly with our Headwaiter who, as a custom and as you did experience, walks the tables to check for satisfaction. Your comment that ‘the plate spoke by itself’ was unfortunately not understood as intended seeing that all was consumed.

Our staff strive to handle any incident immediately and are empowered to take any necessary action to ensure that our clients are satisfied. Please accept my sincere apologies if your disappointment was misinterpreted and we failed to act upon it.

Your comments about one of our signature dishes, the tuna tartare, requires further clarifications: the meat of this dish is served raw, however it will be seared, which is quite different than cooked, table side on a dedicated gueridon table with all the ingredients and working tools necessary to do so in a professional manner. This is one of our most popular dishes and we usually receive very good comments, however your comment brought up the question on whether we should specify the word ‘seared’ on the menu, something we will surely consider.

Mr Rowland, again please accept our sincere apologies and we do hope we will have the pleasure to welcoming you to the Pegasus restaurant soon to be able to showcase the usual level of quality and service which we have come to be known.

Yours sincerely,
Francesco Perricone

We stayed here for 2 weeks in August and I have to say it was the best holiday of my life. The hotel is AMAZING!! The sense of history to it and the decor is second to none. It's so luxurious and the staff are so helpful and attentive without being annoying. We were upgraded when we arrived because we were celebrating our anniversary whilst there. The room, on the 4th floor, was beautiful and very luxurious. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The attention to detail is wonderful. We came back to a bottle of bubbly, some lovely biscuits and a congratulations card on our anniversary. The hotel is very central for the bus station and for Valletta town. If I go back to Malta there's no where else I'd stay!

This was our second trip to Malta and second stay at the Phoenicia. From the minute I started making reservation, they were once again helpful.
On our arrival it appeared they remembers us. We requested the same room we had on our previous stay. The room was one with a balcony on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool and harbor. The breakfasts were wonderful, and it appears Rome, Capri and Malta all serve Prosecco with breakfast..yumm.
We also spent 2 nights in MDina and having done that I would definitely return for a longer stay to the Phoenicia as a base to see the rest of the island as well as more of Valetta.

Six day stay at the Islands top hotel. Impressive appearance with a touch of class. Staff were always polite and eager to please. Room with balcony and a view of Valletta city and harbour. We only had breakfast - great selection and very well presented. There is a huge selection of places to eat in the city or nearby. Hotel bar prices can be a little steep.
The best location to walk into Valletta or take a bus to anywhere on the Island. All buses return to Valletta bus station - one minute from the from of the hotel.
My wife had arranged a surprise birthday cake. Made by one of the hotel chefs - awesome !

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony. They are not particularly quiet but you will be able to sit out and g...
