This is a few months overdue - but never too late! We stayed at Phoenicia for our honey moon trip in Malta in July. The staff is very helpful - they even checked us in long before 2pm that is the check-in time, since our flight arrived at 8:30 in the morning! The room we stayed in was spacious, clean and with a nice view. Breakfast buffet was full and the food delicious - also lovely is the balcony we took our breakfast. May I suggest that if you visit the hotel, to take the walk down to the pool - the gardens are really nice. Last but not least, they pointed out a great new restaurant called La Vecchia Dogana in Pieta - which we really enjoyed.

As it has already been pointed out, the hotel is next to the main bus station of Valletta - which is good if you take the bus! But I would suggest to future visitors to rent a car. They are cheap and you can go around far more easily. Parking is easy and you will not need to spend a fortune in parking.

PS. Thanks to the hotel manager for the bottle of champagne! Really enjoyed it! :))

We have just returned from a weeks stay in the Hotel Phoenicia. The Hotel is excellent - staff are all attentive and polite but not intrusive. Catriona, in particular was especially helpful at meal times.
Our room was small, but well maintained and comfortable. Housekeeping staff are very helpful, rooms are immaculate.
The hotel is an ideal base from which to explore Valletta. Afternoons can be spent relaxing by the pool enjoying delicious drinks and snacks.
The food in the restaurant was generally of a very high standard. Breakfasts were lovely with a great choice of foods.
The evenng meals were interesting, well cooked and beautifully presented. The terraced area is beautiful and you get to eat your meal while watching a mediteranean sunset.
The only slight disappointment was Sunday's barbecue night when I felt the standard wasa a little lower than usual (still good) but the price was the same as every other evening.
Overall, this hotel was a pleasure to visit. The staff are delightful and eager to help.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at the Phoenicia. I am very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.

I have also shared your positive comments with all the staff and in particular with Catriona, who has just joined us again after a year's traineeship in Luxembourg.

The Sunday BBQ is one of our best sellers, so I appreciate your comment. We have already looked at how we can improve this further.

We hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back in the future.

The reviews on this website about the Phoenicia Hotel in Malta are pretty accurate.
I just arrived home this morning after a straightforward and relaxing week at this hotel.

Dont be put off by the location when you first arrive, as it is right next to the entrance to Valletta where all the buses on the island start and finish their routes, so I had that sinking feeling when I first saw it - "oh god what have we done...."
When you walk inside for the first time you instantly realise that this is a good hotel. Staff are polite and helpful, if a little too attentive (the chambermaid knocked on our door every day at 6pm as we got ready for dinner to ask if we were happy with our room).
The pool is excellent with a stunning view across the bay, a bar and terrace, providing relaxation and tranquility.
The restaurant and bar in the hotel are extremely pricey in comparison to what is on offer elsewhere on the island. We avoided it as we were only b & b terms, however breakfast was fantastic. Hot and cold, wide range of fruit meat, juices and cereals.... our strategy was to eat loads at breakfast and then head on out into the island.
We tried a cocktail one night in the hotel and found the man behind the bar to be rude, and stingy with his measures, which given the prices were double elsewhere on the island meant we never went there again. To cap it all, we paid cash, left a 10% tip and when we left he followed us out because he thought we hadnt paid.... I think he was having a bad day...
That said, it is a good hotel; smart, clean, quiet, very well placed, and if you are travelling without children, and want to explore the whole of Malta this is a good place to base yourselves due to the location of the bus terminal, which as it happens does not intrude on the hotel atmosphere.
Dont hire a car while you are there. The buses are rickety, hot, slightly tatty, sometimes crowded, but they work, they are regular and you can travel from one end of the island to the other for less than 50 cents.

Thank you for taking the time to write about you stay at the Phoenicia and your positive comments.

I apologise for the incident in our Club Bar. Please rest assured that I have discussed this with all the barmen and now they know that they are not allowed anymore "bad days"!

As you mentioned, having the buses so near is an asset as one can get to any part of the island in good time and quite cheap.

I hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back some time in the future.

Kind regards
Charles Azzopardi

Myself and my husband stayed here the 1st week of July, we were here for a wedding (keenan & ryan) and the group consisted of about 26 people. I have to say that this hotel could not have done more to make our stay really memorable. Even at 12 midnight the day of the wedding Crystele (wedding co-ordinator) managed to get me a set of batteries for my camera. The reception staff and bar and waiting staff were excellent. The hotel itself is beautiful with amazing gardens (to anyone thinking of getting married in malta - this is the hotel for you.)

Thank you for your review and comments following your stay with us.

I have passed a copy of your comments to Chrystelle. She is doing a fantastic job taking care of all the coordination needed for wedding from abroad. Our success in attracting more wedding parties is very much due to her dedication and hard work.

This is really one of the great hotels! The Hotel Phoenicia combines luxurious comfort and excellent facilities with fantastic courtesy and hospitality from it's dedicated staff. We spent just 3 nights this weekend at the hotel - a warm welcome when we checked-in at one o'clock in the morning made for an excellent start to our stay and our rooms were large, spotlessly clean and most comfortable. Delicious breakfasts served with a smile, a "hello sir and how are you?" from any member of staff that we passed. The pool is just right affording fantastic views and an excellent place for luncheon. The Club Bar run with great aplomb by Saviour (Sunny) was an education in the art of traditional and new cocktails! What impressed us most was the personal touch which is not always found in some 5* hotels. Situated at the gate to the City of Valletta it is ideally located. Great value, great place, great staff.

We stayed for a week at the beginning of July; our first visit to Malta.
The hotel was superb - one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. The staff
were, without exception, charming, friendly and very helpful. Our room was on
the second floor with a small balcony and harbour view. A comfortable bed, good
bathroom, lots of storage space and spotlessly clean. Everthing about the Phoenicia
was excellent, but worth a special mention were the breakfasts - wow! The gardens
leading the pool are beautiful and at the pool bar you can get lovely snacks and smoothies.
We had a great holiday and would love to return one day
