As the title says.............the phoenicia retains it's charm and elegance,in our opinion nothing much has changed apart from the decor and reception area,we were on the third floor in a refurbished room with wonderful views over floriana and beyond, room cleaned and cleared daily, breakfasts were a dream, even better than last time!!!,pool area as usual charming and blissfully quiet with great views over the harbour.simply cannot fault the place, highly reccomend to anyone.......Valletta has a lot going for it apart from the history and culture if you look, some great restaurants on the street off the main square past the fountains,no need for taxis to get around the island either, use the buses,an experience in itself,a bus ride to cirkekawa to get the ferry to gozo for a day trip costs 37 cents,amazing!!........added bonus for us was the Rod Stewart concert in Floriana, right outside the hotel..........10/10.

My husband and I stayed at the Phoenicia for 3 nights in July. We came back to stay having had our honeymoon there 26 years ago. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in one of the refurbished rooms with a road view but it was nicely furnished with well equipped bathroom. Great shower, large and spacious bathroom with a large sink including the all important magnigying mirror for make-up application. The pool and gardens are simply beautiful and so enjoyable to walk through. The pool is a 4-5 minute walk from the hotel but through the well kept gardens so it's not a problem. Food at the pool bar is very good and the pizzas are recommended. Lots of comfy padded loungers and a large rectangular pool and kids pool. Totally stunning view of the harbour which is breathtaking. Breakfast is average but the fact that you eat on the lovely open air terrace is worth it. Dinner in the evening wasn't great at all however and I would say there are nicer/more reasonably priced places to eat in valletta. I would recommend Gianninis restaurant which has a terrace with amazing views especially at night (8 min walk from the hotel). Booking recommended.

Staff at the hotel on the whole are friendly and very helpful but service was a little slow at times in the restaurant and the bar. Reception staff and conceirge were great. We met the Hotel Manager at the cocktail party who was kind, helpful and very friendly. Would we go back? In a heartbeat. It is a wonderful hotel with a very intimate feel.

After saving a sizeable amount of our hard-earned roubles by opting to fly as "human cargo" with Ryanair we thought we'd splash the cash we saved swanking it up at one of the better hotels in Valletta. (We had also got a good deal with the hotel price on t'internet)
You can't really beat this place for location, situated at the entrance of Valletta it means a short walk to the shops/bars/restaurants which are generally of the "chill out in the sunshine" variety. If you like to get out and about it is a 2 minute walk to the bus terminal which is a sight to behold. The transport is efficient considering the age of the vintage buses but get ready for a dose of white knuckles as " in accordance with the highway code" is not a phrase you're likely to hear on the financially agreeable public transport. If you like Alton Towers though you'll love it.
While we were there the 3rd and 4th floors were being / had been renovated but we were on the 2nd floor where our room, while clean and tidy, was a bit dated. Nothing major required other than a spruce up with a coat of paint. Air con was working thankfully as it was a bit sticky overnight.

Plus Points - Great Location, View From The Pool, Walk To The Pool through the gardens.
Minus Points - Dated Furnishings and most importantly BAR PRICES !
Now I'm not unfamiliar with hotels charging a bit more than bars but I'm not overly enthused about only getting a beer and a lemonade for a crisp 10 euro note.
That was a mistake I only made once.
Solution : Take 2 minutes of your time to wander over to the bus rank and pick up a few chilled cans of Cisk (Maltese Lager) and some lemonade. Get yourself a cool bag and conceal it under your sun lounger. There are better things in Malta to spend your money on so make the effort of being just a little bit naughty.

The Phoenicia is an elegant, charming and comfortable hotel.

This is also reflected in the hotel staff who are also charming, efficient and appear to be proud of their work.and surroundings.

The hotel is quiet but busy and an ideal place to holiday, take a break and/or get married.
