This a fine choice for a 3-4 star experience in a great location on one of the Historic squares in Valletta. It is quiet, close to the quaint cobblestoned plazas, shopping, dining and jump-off for Island panoramic tours. The Air Conditioning was a bit spotty, but evenings cool and with a nice breeze fine for sleeping. The included breakfasts on the roof with a spectacular panorama of the city were varied and tasty.
I read some fascinating historical novels about the great conflicts between the Turks and Knights Templar and was able to view many of the scenes of battles from my window. There were quiet nooks for reading and reflection about the hotel and many parks and scenic spots nearby. I also enthusiastically enjoyed visiting one of the oldest Megalithic sites in the world on the Island Tour.
This is not a swank option, but a great value with all the good service, amenities and location I could have asked for and a very nice stay.

Room Tip: Those in the front with a balcony have a superb view of the harbor and surrounding area.

This historic hotel used to be a palace for the Di Robertis family, and it's a wonderful example of traditional Maltese architecture, inside and out. The staff, too, all had that traditional Maltese friendliness, were helpful and charming. My room was on the small side, but I was travelling solo so that wasn't a problem for me. More importantly, it was clean, comfortable, had free wifi, and the balcony was an added bonus, with a view up and down the street.
The hotel's position is perfect - a few minutes walk from Republic Street, Freedom Square and the massive walls of the city gates. The bus terminus in Triton Square is only a matter of yards outside the city.
Valletta has a charm all of its own - its history is right there in every street, around every corner. Every Maltese I met was at least bi-lingual, and the tour guides are multi-lingual. Valletta itself may not be the best place for young families, but the holiday resorts are easily reached either by car or the Arriva buses.

I stay at this hotel every month for a few nights as I have a regular consultancy with the Maltese Ministry. The staff remain as helpful as ever. The roof top restaurant has new furniture both inside and out on the roof. The breakfast menu has been improved and the rooms now have flat screen TV's and mini fridges.
Ideal as a base for historic Valletta and very close to the main bus terminal for all destinations on the Island. Also close to the Grand Harbour with excellent restaurants and panoramic views including the many cruise liners that berth in the harbour.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, not one facing internally.

The staff here went out of their way to be kind and helpful. The room was brilliant traditional room with historic balcony (room 10). The restaurant has the best views in Malta and the roof terrace a 360 view! The food was amazing, huge portions and the service excellent (better than the 5 star phonicea hotel down the road).
Would be even more perfect if a small plunge pool was put in on roof terrace as Malta is hot in the summer.
Having said this couldn't have picked a better hotel-will definitely be back!

The Castille Hotel is a 5 minute walk from the bus station, perfect for exploring Valletta and next to the Upper Barrakka gardens with fantastic views over Grand harbour. We stayed here twice in June. On the first occasion the first room was rather small but on the second we had a huge room. This has everything to do with the position of the original windows and how they divided the space up for hotel use, the Castile being a former palace.
The décor is somewhat dated but the beds were clean and comfortable. The bathrooms too are in need of some modernisation, only a handheld shower head in the bath. The bathrooms would benefit from a good clean with Cillit Bang!
There is a rooftop restaurant with equally spectacular views over the harbour and one can see as far as Mdina. The food a bit hit and miss however, this is where a rather mundane breakfast is served in the morning. The coffee was especially poor.
However the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and in relation to how much we paid good value for money.
