“Reasonable value for money”

Staff very helpful indeed, good breakfast, very nice room but the bathroom needed updating.
The hotel is in an excellent position with a roof top restaurant (average food)but wonderful views of the city and Grand Harbour, a bistro in the cellar which was very good and a café also excellent. We stayed one week.
Retired couple

Room Tip: Go off season as I should imagine it will be a bit noisy in the height of the season

I stayed in this hotel for nearly two weeks - so it was a bit of a test for me, and the hotel. The first night I was put into the smallest single room possible; it was pretty grim, especially as there was scaffolding right outside the window, with very noisy and dusty work being carried out (mainly in the morning). I was then relocated to a marginally larger room, which I put up with for the remainder of my stay. I made every effort to get out of the hotel every morning and afternoon, and in that respect I got to see more of Valetta and Malta than I otherwise would have.
The breakfast was taken in the restaurant on the rooftop - the sights from here were marvelous; it has to be one of the best viewing spots in Valletta. The food at breakfast was pretty basic, nothing fancy. And the same could be said for the lunches, and the dinners in this restaurant. There was a plat du jour, which was reasonably priced (by Valletta standards). And there was a restaurant in the basement where they served pasta and pizzas; the wine was fairly-priced here.
One or two of the staff were sort of friendly - but not all of them. The wifi did not work for me at first; but I mentioned this to reception, and they provided me with a router for my room.
This hotel is in an ideal location; but it needs to be given a makeover; it needs to be "boutiqued" and upgraded.

The hotel is not new, which you can see in the facilities, however that did not bother me at all, as the location was perfect. The rooms were clean, and things were working. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The wifi mentioned on the web pages was working only randomly, so I would not rely on that. In the rooms one could connect and the other could not, works better on the lobby. Luckily there was no extra charge for the wifi and there were many available in the restaurants and bars around the island.

Faded elegance and a bit dusty round the edges, but comfortable. Single room large enough, but very noisy from other rooms.....even when they're just opening or closing doors. Very friendly staff and though it needs a bit of refurbishment, I liked the atmosphere. Water pressure very low, no point in TV as only 6 channels in Maltese, German and one English news. Breakfast on the top floor with great views of the city.

An old hotel which needs updating.
1. Not enough electric outlets in the room.
2. Wood strip above the closet was falling down and had to be pushed up to open doors.
3. No space or shelf in bathroom to put toiletries.
4. Free wi-fi internet dropped in and out.
5. Balcony door frames have never been cleaned.
6. Balcony railings dirty with cement dropped on them. Not been painted in years.
7. Very nice new laminate wood flooring.

Room Tip: Try another room other than #39.

Stayed here for one week and I honestly had the best time. My room had a huge balcony, bed was comfortable, breakfast was lovely. I had dinner on the roof top and in the la cave restaurant in basement both were delicious! Location right in the heart of Valletta, the hotel is close to everything. The staff here are so nice and friendly. Valletta is such a nice place lots to do, great for shopping.

This is an excellent 3 star hotel which exudes the charm of characteristic Maltese architecture. Recent upgrading of facilities has not detracted from the overall ambience of this delightful, small hotel. Located in an unrivalled position adjacent to the Upper Barraka Gardens and Grand Harbour, our room with a small balcony, which overlooked the square, provided interesting 'people watching' as previous reviewer noted!

We have stayed at The Castille for a number of years now and always receive the warmest welcome imaginable from all members of staff, especially those on the front desk. For us, it is our second home.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms overlook Castille Square.
