The osborne is a small hotel inside the city walls of Valetta. Towards the top end 5 mins from the bus station. The hotel is not suitable for hiring a car as there is no parking nearby. A great hotel if you are in malta to visit the sights and explore, However it is not for those who would like to relax by a pool or beach in the sun.
It features a rooftop pool, restaurant and a bar.
You get pretty much what you would expect from a 3*hotel. Clean and comfortable but nothing special.

Room Tip: Avoid the 2nd floor.

My friend and I stayed at the Osborne for five nights in late May and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Living in different parts of the world, we manage to hold a “girls’ reunion” every other year and always try to pick a place that provides a lovely mixture of sunshine, beautiful architecture, nice dining and an all-round lovely, warm, friendly atmosphere; for that purpose, we could not have picked a nicer place than the old city of Valletta – which to us was a million times preferable to the concrete jungle that is St. Julian’s and surroundings.

I had emailed the hotel beforehand and enquired about twin beds, a sea-view room and airport transfers as we were both arriving late. The manager could not have been more helpful and all requests were met without a problem (the sea-view room supplement was 10 Euro per night per person but well worth it!)

We got room 501 (I believe 503, 601 and 603 have similar views) which was absolutely lovely – spacious, with twin beds and a beautiful balcony overlooking the old heart of the town, several churches, Marsamxett harbour and Sliema. In fact, I ended up with photographs of the gorgeous view at all hours of the day and night as it was indeed breath-taking!

The location of the hotel – just inside the city-gates and only minutes from the bus terminal, the Sliema ferry as well as all the major sights and shopping streets – was outstanding. Staff were lovely and helpful without exception. The breakfast buffet was quite substantial and of decent quality (we never had dinner at the hotel) and the rooftop pool refreshing (yes, I know it’s a euphemism for cold but honestly, once the day-time temperature hit 30 degrees, it really was quite lovely once you were in!)

The only downsides was the complete lack of water pressure in the shower (but then it is an old mansion and we were on the 5th floor) and the fact that it was impossible not to bang internal and external doors, no matter how hard we tried. A strip of felt or some other kind of basic noise-proofing along the door-frames would really help. Otherwise, however, we felt the hotel was very quiet – no elevator noises, conversations overheard through thin walls or loud cleaning ladies which often ruin morning lie-ins! True, the sea-view rooms are somewhat partitioned from the lifts and other rooms so we were probably in the quietest part of the hotel.

In summary, we had a hugely enjoyable stay at the Osborne and felt very well looked after by staff and management. We would certainly not hesitate to make this hotel our base in Valletta again and thoroughly recommend it to anybody contemplating staying in the city.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for one of the sea-view rooms - it's definitely worth it!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay in the Osborne Hotel. We had a great time, we organised transfers to the hotel in advance. George was there at the airport to greet us, he was friendly and polite and our transfer only took around 20mins (at 9pm). We booked online and requested a sea view at time of booking. On arrival we were advised a room with a sea view was available at a supplement of 10euros a night. We decided to take this option and were really glad we did. We were given a room on the 5th floor with amazing views of the harbour. The room was bright, airy, clean and spacious enough with 2 windows giving an almost 180view of Valletta.

The bed was really comfortable and extra pillows were provided - my hubby and I are above average height (he is 6ft 3 and I'm 5ft 11) and contrary to earlier comments, we found the beds to be plenty big enough. The room also had nice thick curtains and great air con so we slept really well.

The bathroom was a good size, one criticism i would have was that the shower head was quite low on the wall for me and it wasn't possible to direct it upwards which meant i had to stoop in the shower, I didn't find it to be a big deal. The hairdryer was also powerful enough (a first for me, i always take one as they are usually less than useless) and the bathroom was clean and spacious with another window - again with a lovely view!

There is a pool area on the 6th floor. The pool itself is tiny and was really cold but it was definately a bonus to have this space, it was a lovely area to spend a couple of relaxing hours. There were around 10 sun loungers and 4 tables with chairs, and a view over the Valletta rooftops.

We didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment and found the staff to be very helpful and happy to provide any advice on sites/things to do in and around the area and were happy to book excursions for us. The hotel is within the city walls, it was in a great location, really central for exploring Valletta. It is on a steep hill, but then Valletta itself is very hilly. A gorgeous city, really happy we chose to stay in the Osborne and would highly recommend it to others.

Stayed here for a week and it's a great place from which to explore Valletta.

The hotel used to be a palace belonging to one of the Knights of Malta. It's 6 floors and has rooms of varying sizes, with a small swimming pool and large deck area on the roof. The best thing about the hotel is that it is walking distance to everything in Valletta and it is only meters from many restaurants.

Reception staff are very helpful and the restaurant staff are the same. They work very long hours but still manage a smile while negotiating a very busy restaurant.

Breakfast is very good and more than adequate - they also have a fixed price dinner and lunch option if you would like it. I tried the dinner only once, as it was a bit ordinary and the fish dish I had was a bit like a soggy, tasteless sponge. Maybe it was just an "off" night.....

I had a nice room with a small balcony and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a bit on the "tiny" side, with a shower (no bath) and I had to negotiate it carefully to avoid hitting the fittings.

There was a flat-screen TV - but if you speak English, don't bother turning it on. There is only ONE English channel and it is CNN ! After a long day out sightseeing and after dinner, if you felt like relaxing with a movie on TV, make sure you speak Italian, French or German because there are heaps of options for you !! English ? Forget it.

The other little thing was that there is no bar fridge or iron / board in the room. I asked for an iron and a board and was told "THE" iron was being used. I got it eventually but in Malta, there's no rush. :)

Check in was friendly, quick and efficient. The room was small and clean, but smelled of drains. We tried to change rooms but were told this was impossible as the hotel was full. The bed was very uncomfortable and had ridges in it. The shower cubicle was extremely small and there was no bath. The breakfast was not very appetising with cold bacon and orange jiuce and milk not chilled. Tea and coffee were not hot! However the hotel is in an excellent location and with a few improvements in the mattress, bathroom and care taken at breakfast to ensure the appropriate items are kept hot or cold, this could be an excellent hotel.

Room Tip: Don't have Room 309!!! Rooms on higher floors tend to be better

The Osborne is a charming little hotel in the heart of the old city. We arrived late in the evening and were checked in efficiently and courteously. The rooms provided were small but excellent...
Well equipped, nicely decorated and very comfortable... Considering the overnight rate charged The Osborne represents excellent value for money... We didn't eat in the hotel as the dining area didn't look particularly appealing and there are many restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the hotel. The only negative was a particularly rude female member of staff who appeared to have huge difficulty with the fact that we fancied a drink at the hotel bar (give it a miss!) at around 11pm. Despite this I would highly recommend The Osborne!

Room Tip: Room 205 - quiet, nice decoration and comfortable...

The hotel is very well located in the center of Valletta, friendly and helpful staff at reception. Beds and bathrooms were great, our bathroom had a terrace with a stunning view of the harbor and part of the town. The breakfast, however, was below standards. Orange juice undrinkable, scrambled eggs were more of a salty custard, inedible. Of course this is easy to fix, if the management does that, this is a great hotel and highly recommended.
