“Great location.”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

The location is everything with the Osbourne, the Hotel is an ideal base for visiting the many attractions in Valletta and walking distance to the Bus Station.

My room was small, the double bed took up most of the space and the shower and a toilet was also small but good value at the price paid.

There was a wide choice English or Continental Fare at the Breakfast Buffet.
I did not Dine in in the Evening there are lots of Restaurants nearby.

Amazing rooftop views of city and sea from the roof terrace, but beware I went up there at dusk and got locked in! someone Locked the Gate without checking.

Would definitely stay again.

We, an elderly couple, visited Valletta for a few hours in autumn 2011 on a cruise and now returned for a longer visit to see the rest of Malta too. Hotel Osborne proved to be a perfect base for further explorations. It is situated inside the Valletta city walls only some 200 meters to Republic Street and to the Sliema ferry though the latter includes some flights of stairs but easier than we suspected. We arranged some of our day tours by the hotel and some on our way down to Sliema all good value for their price. I shall rate the tours on separate posts.

Though a seasoned traveler I have never left a hotel in such good moods than this. My special thanks go to Charlie, the epitome of what good hotel management is about. He not only arranged our tours but put us at ease by saying that you don’t have to find the bus, they’ll find you and so they always did.

To earn a helpful vote, I now comment on the rooms. As poor sleepers and loud snorers we had separate rooms, she 102 and me 101 in first floor. Mine was much larger and newly renovated with storage space for a family of ten. Both were ill suited for daytime naps of sleep as they shared a tiny inner yard with the kitchen at the basement. After the kitchen was closed the calm reigned for sure. Luckily there was a problem with her toilet which decided to self flush in the weekend. Instead of getting it immediately fixed she got the room 601 in the top floor where we spent our delayed honeymoon. The sight from one of its windows is attached.

Room Tip: For sights and silence i recommend upper floors. If you don't need naps in daytime 101 is also o...

I stayed at the Osborne, 23-27 Jan 2014, Room 507, total EUR208/single incl BF (Booking.com) - lovely 3 star hotel, easy flat walk from the main Valletta bus station.

I loved Malta and Valletta was the perfect choice. Easy walk to the main bus station - 16 platforms and you can go anywhere on the island even in winter. I never had to wait more than 20 mins for a bus in any direction. In fact, it was so well organised that you could easily visit 2 or 3 destinations in 1 day by hubbing in and out of Valletta (and you have benefit to hop back to hotel if you need to). Easy to go out to Marsaxlokk first thing Sunday morning, 0850 for the excellent market along the waterfront and great full English B/fast at any of the waterfront Cafes, then back to Valletta, on to Sliema for a waterfront walk in the sun (note most shops are closed on Sunday except Cafes/Restaurants), then hub back to Valletta and on to Mdina. Really easy!

Room 507 was huge with nice view over the rooftops of Valletta, nice modern bathroom, big bath, great towels - albeit a weird, damp smell permeated the bathroom that did not go away during the whole stay - it seemed to be a smell from the drains. Note Malta uses UK power sockets (not EU) so you need adaptor. There was one EU socket near the writing desk. The bed and pillows were a bit lumpy and bumpy with a dip in the middle, and sheets were a bit worn.

As I said room was huge, desk was huge and there was lots of space for the money paid. B/fast was really good considering it was EUR2.50, unbelieveable! Make sure you take the option! (But try to go early, by 8.15am German Seniors are elbowing you out of the way ;-)

Dinner was also incredible value and the dining room was so beautiful and cosy with its stone wall interior - EUR9.90 incl a carafe of very decent wine - eg. first was a self serve salad bar, then entree was mushroom soup or stuffed Greek pita bread and then main was roast lamb, beef medallions or omelette. Fantastic dinner for the money. You can hardly get a sandwich and coffee in the Valletta Cafes for this amount! It is however a good idea to arrive right on 6.30pm while Salad Bar is fresh and service is calm and before the crush of German Seniors at 7.30pm (ha ha) - then you don't stand a chance!

I really enjoyed my stay. Yes, I would stay again at this price - I can deal with the lumpy bed/drain smell. It was good value for money.

Visited Malta for the 50th time and found The Osborne Hotel, its just right, half way down south Street just off Republic Street. Happy hour really is happy hour, great bar staff and drinks half price. Good breakfast if a bit chaotic, good wide comftable beds and nice bathrooms. All the staff are friendly and greet you with a smile. Close to the Salima a bargain at 3 euro's return.

Room Tip: Only a couple with sea view, ask for one.

We found this hotel on Tripadvisor and also a company offering double rooms for 61euro a night, which was a very good price. Actually, we just missed an offer of 65 per night including breakfast which would have been even better ( see later).

This is in a fairly quite location in Valletta, an easy walk from the bus station and irs rated 3 star. The room was large with en-suite with a bath and shower and tea/coffee facilities were in the room. In summer the air con would be useful I think, but at the end of March we needed neither extra heat or cool. There are two lifts which are quite speedy - and necessary, as there are 6 stories.

The 6th floor gives access to a roof terrace with a view of the sea if you crane your neck, but would be very pleasant in a summer evening. There is also a small pool (open air): it would only take about 6 people at once as long as they were friends!

There is a ground floor bar and lounge with reasonable prices and a restaurant. This is where it is interesting. Breakfast ( I believe continental) is 7 euro each (hence the deal above is very good value), and we decided this was not worth it. Lunch and dinner, however, are about 12.75 and are three course with a several choices. Sometimes it is a buffet service. We had dinner twice, so four meals and a bottle and a half of wine came to less than 60 euro which we thought extremely good value. In fact it would be almost impossible to match this elsewhere.

The food was well prepared and the service reasonable in our case. However, we were latish one evening and discovered some starters had run out.

We would certainly recommend the Osborne - tho its may not be quite so good if you have children.

Room Tip: There are some rooms ( higher floors) with a sea view. Rooms facing the road ( 2 sides) can get road...

Very nice almost boutique type of hotel. Location is ideal if you want to discover Valetta. Their buffet dinner is very good. Price only 12.75 €, not served every evening.
My single room was probably the smallest I have ever stayed in. However it was very clean and modern. I needed a room to sleep, so this was perfect price value.
Hotel has small rooftop pool area. Quiet Place to sunbathe.
Valetta area is not very large, so if you are planning to stay in Malta for several days, you may want to discover the rest of the island. The bus station is close to the hotel and the bus system works well. There is an information booth at the station. The ticket price is 1,50 € for a return ticket which is valid 24 h. Taking tourist busses will do the same trick but are much more expensive. I played golf every day and took a bus to the golf course saving a bundle compared with taxi (taxi one way 15 -20 euros).
For transportation from and to the airport I used Maltatransfer small buses, 8 euros one way, saving also an other 20 euros each way compared with a taxi. I don't go for a holiday to save money, but I do'nt either want spend money on thing which can be compensated with rational option.
Last final comment concerns using taxi. As often in the rest of the world Maltese taxis will code you higher price if they see that you are a foreigner. So, make sure that you agree the price before the trip. Why this is the same almost everywhere in the world. I think this is bad for tourism in long run.
