“A sort of boutique hotel....”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

.....actually i found only this one - ad a boutique hotel - in Valetta. In Malta it's an issue as the hotels are not too up to date. So the Osborne is very central with very friendly and helpful personal (without exception), it's clean, etc. Everything seems to be all right. Of course there are some weak points like the cheap - in fact - broken shower cabin, small rooms, some damaged wallcarpet) BUT it's poorly soundproofed. I had luck because the neighbors went to bed early....but with some rowdies or horny couples around one couldn't have slept one minute.

Room Tip: Try to manage not to have neighbors around (beside, above, below, etc).

The hotel is in a handy location for sightseeing in Valetta not too far away from the town a gentle 2-5 minute stroll to find restaurants or the sights. I had a standard room on the 5th floor at the rear and side of the building so had little road noise however could hear occupants of other rooms quite clearly! The room was clean, fairly spacious and nicely decorated unlike my parent's room - so obviously hit and miss as to the standard of these rooms. I found it very odd that staff avoided eye contact especially at reception (normally as you enter and leave a hotel the receptionist acknowledges you - not at the Osborne) however once you managed to engage them they were helpful and friendly.

The best location you could ask for if you want to be only a thirty-second walk from the central attractions, shops, transport, waterfront, and restaurants. For such a central hotel the pool is particularly a bonus - bear in mind it's a small pool, but the roof area in general is very attractive and just lovely in the evening when the cool breeze floats in and the lights of the city are around you.

Our room was spacious and light, more so than we expected since we only booked a standard room, but there you go. Staff were friendly and accommodating, rooms were cleaned well (we were even there once when they cleaned and it was amazing how thorough they were) and the hotel itself was nicely decorated, although quite a bit narrower than your more modern hotels since it's quite an old building in the traditional central Valletta style.

Only thing I would say was a negative was the breakfast, although it was adequate there was not a selection to write home about.

All in all for what it costed, this hotel far exceeded expectations.

The hotel was ideally placed in Valletta near to all the attractions and the bus station which is what we wanted as on previous visits we have stayed in Sliema. The reception staff were very friendly but unfortunately we did not rate the housekeeping, we stayed for 6 nights, the sheets were not changed once but the towels were replaced each day regardless and the bathroom was not the best, it wasn't as clean as you would expect for an hotel regardless of stars. On the plus side we did pay extra, for a 'sea view', which in the middle of a city was definately worth the money. Sorry Hotel Osborne we will not be recommending you.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the sea view better than looking at the water pipes and air con. unites.

Returning to the Osborne for a 3 night stay we elected to book a standard room. However we soon regretted not booking the superior rooms as we did last year.
We were allocated rooms on the 5th floor and although adequate and clean they lack the space and quality of décor of the superior rooms by quite a bit.
Staff were as friendly and helpful as they were on our last visit. Little has changed and that's no bad thing.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room.

This hotel is in a great location, very central to most of Valletta's attractions, shopping streets and the bus station. Nothing flash but well run by a friendly and helpful staff. Very little in the way of views but there is small pool and an attractive terrace on the sixth floor. The bar and dining room are both neat and functional although I would describe the food ( plentiful ) as average. I would think that this hotel was better suited to middle age or senior citizen clientele but others may disagree. Two lifts are available and there is a locked luggage room for those leaving after the mid-day curfew. The one thing that does annoy me with some hotels is the charge for wi-fi, this establishment does charge.

Room Tip: Deluxe or Superior rooms will give you more space but you cannot avoid early morning noise in Vallet...

We booked this hotel via internet for the last night on Malta. We had to leave very early for the airport, so decided to stay in a central located hotel. The Osborne has nice staff, they are friendly and helpful. The reception/lobby has a nice atmosphere (old building). However the rooms were quite small (or compact, if you like). Everything is there though. We had a room at the back of the hotel, so not so noisy (we slept with the window open, which was no problem).
Since we left at 05.30 AM, we did not have breakfast in the hotel (although it was included in the price), so I can't tell you how the breakfast is.
