We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! It was lovely and peaceful with great staff. Breakfast was great with a good choice. Our room was cleaned every day. Its in a brilliant location for exploring the city itself and the island of Malta with the bus terminal just a short distance away. A weekly bus ticket is 6.50 and it works up until 11p.m when the night time rate of 2.50 applies. Once you get yourself a tourist bus map that will tell you where all the buses go to you can easily get about. We had a great time discovering all the history of Malta and found we got to see everything we wanted to in the week we were there. We went up to the pool on the roof once and found it pleasant and it was great that the hotel offered a luggage room so that when we checked out we could still do things in Malta on our last day as our flight wasn't until late. The only complaint we would have are that the shower holder is too low, you have to stand in the shower and hold the head which really isn't that big of a deal on the grand scale of things. And we have come to expect wifi to be free in hotels now but I believe that Malta as a whole is only getting in on the wifi thing now so maybe in time it will come as standard. Neither complaint are massive or hindered our holiday and all in all we would recommend the Hotel Osborne and Malta to anyone! Make sure you see the cannon being fired at 12 and 4 at the saluting battery! Great and it only costs 2euro for the guided tour, we bought the 25euro ticket that got us into this, the Lascaris War Rooms, Fort Rinella and the Malta at War museum. Great value!

Lovely little mid price boutique hotel that we heartily recommend. We stayed on the 6th floor which apparently houses the premium rooms. It was a great experience. The hotel is in a great spot in the old city. It's close to the main attractions of Valletta - about a short 5-10 minute walk away in many cases - but far enough away to avoid the noise and bustle of the city. I'd rate the location as perfect. This is a key consideration if you want to see the key cultural attractions of valetta. We have had friends stay in other hotels in the city, some across the water, and they have been unhappy to be located so far away from the city's key attractions.

The view of the city and the water is amazing up there up on level 6 and is probably close to the best views from a hotel that I've ever seen. The rooms aren't large but they are about as large as you'd ever need. They are well appointed rooms and have very good functional bathrooms. The hotel is in a very quiet part of the city. We found if very easy to sleep as there was very little outside noise. The rooms have good air conditioning but also have windows you can open. We like fresh air and opened our windows each night. We slept very soundly.

The hotel has a lovely small pool up on the 6th floor. It was an oasis at the end of a day after a day's exploring the lovely city of a Valletta. The view from the pool area is also very good.

We encountered generally good customer service here. One employee (Charles) helped us a number of times during our stay and always quickly with a smile and often with a clever quip. Every hotel needs people like Charles working for it. He's a diamond who clearly enjoys his job and helping people.

The hotel has a restaurant which is quaint but enjoyable. First, it has a nice breakfast with good cold and hot buffets. It's not a massive breakfast as some can be but if doesn't need to be huge to be good, does it. I'd like to give a bouquet to the person who included muesli as one of the cereal options here. Most hotels don't have muesli or they have bad muesli, usually toasted over processed rubbish. This breakfast has very good muesli: it's Swiss style and very well chosen. Very nice yoghurt options too, one natural and one flavoured. I also liked the hot buffet too particularly the bacon and scrambled eggs, the latter being presented in a delightfully retro way that I'll leave for you to discover if you stay here.

Second, the evening meals are old fashioned but nice. I hadn't seen a seafood cocktail presented in the way it was here since the 1980s. The same with some of the other meals. The presentation is amazingly old fashioned. While decidedly retro, the food was perfectly nice. It's a small matter, but the only issue I'd have with the restaurant (at both breakfast and dinner) is with the music they play. Frankly, it's not appropriate. The music was much too loud and all of it was from the 1980s. I heard Michael Jackson, Phil Collins and a wide range of other artists played. They're fine in context but not constantly and in your face over breakfast and dinner. Something quieter is more appropriate, maybe some soft acoustic music, particularly in a hotel where most guests seemed to be older rather than younger.

The only semi significant criticism I'd have of the hotel is their wifi. Good hotels these days provide free wifi and wifi that works with multiple electronic devices. Here you have to pay for it and it's not cheap, 15 euros to get any meaningful time. It also can also only be used with one device. My wife and I had four devices, two smart phones and two tablets. We have relatives back in our country to talk to and things to do like electronic banking and surfing the web to look at things to do the next day. It was a major hassle to keep chopping and changing between devices particularly as it needed up to 10 minutes for the system to recognise the change. It was even more annoying that the expensive wifi worked very poorly for the first two days until we complained at the front desk and the responsible company was asked to "reset" it. Frankly this is hopeless stuff for such a good hotel. The hotel needs to change its policy and provide good wifi free of charge.

All in all, these are not deal breaking things and I'd certainly still recommend the hotel. We found it well located and well appointed with generally good staff. It was a terrific place to stay and we'd very happily return.

Room Tip: Get one as high up as you can and looking out the back over the water

Spent one week stayed on the 3rd floor (310). The room was of a high standard and appeared to be recently refurbished.Very Clean (as was the whole hotel) with good size bathroom. Unlike other places this hotel certainly deserves its 3 star status. There is a small pool and pleasant sunbathing area on the top of the hotel which is the 6th floor. On the ground floor is the restaurant, bar and sitting area (luckily showing the world cup!) The real plus points of this hotel are the staff and its location. I understand this is a family owned hotel and it shows - the staff were courtious warm and friendly and in many ways it reminds you of how service used to be before clever mission statements and scripted welcomes. The only reason it is not given an excellent score is the food. This can best be described as canteen or school dinners style. Bit like what my mum served in the 60s. However there are plenty of eating options near by which brings me to location. It could not be better. You are situated within a 5 min walk of the main street - tourist spots and bus station. I mention bus station because if you are thinking of hireing a car in Valetta - don't because you will find it almost impossible to park and you probably will not survive the locals driving. Now here comes the good bit - there are lots of busses and lots of routes. It costs £1.20 per day any bus as many times as you want anywhere on the Island. The only problem is they can get very full. Another tip - forget queing as you will be left on the pavement - I am affraid if you adopt the english approach you will not get anywhere! This was our first visit to Malta - before going we had heard mixed reviews - mostly along the lines of - you will either hate or love it. We loved it. Ok there are lots of tatty round the edges areas but for us it has a charm all of its own. We found the people lovely (except for the bus drivers!) who go out of their way to help you. Another tip - we paid £25 each way via our travel agent for a taxi to and from the airport for what is supposedly a 40 minute trip each way. In reality it is no more than 20 minutes even in the rush hour and I suspect would cost no more than a tenner each way - still you live and learn.Would we go back to Malta and the Osborne - definately and we have not been able to say that about many places in the world. This was a cracker of a holiday.

Whilst not the swankiest hotel in Valletta, the Osborne offers superb value. We ensured we had a "room with a view" and what a view over the sea and harbour. Understand that some of the rooms are not quite as good. Overall though we found the hotel very comfortable and friendly and being near the centre an excellent base for exploring wonderful Valletta.
The Phoenicia might be more swish but so is the price. In truth we might even give it a whirl when next we visit this friendliest of islands.

Room Tip: High up and with a sea/ harbour view.

We stayed here - two couples - for a couple of days and enjoyed that time. The hotel is nicely located close to the center. Walk up a side street (yes. Valletta has two directions: either up or down) and enjoy a small park nestled on fortifications overlooking the area (since not many roam into that area its a perfect place to relax in the afternoon or after dinner for a quiet time).
The hotel has the amenities for a vacation traveler: big rooms, decent breakfast (and a meal plan if so desired). Restaurants are near by.

By the way (tongue in cheek), we had one room with sea view but no extra outlets; the other room had the outlets without the view.

The review would be incomplete without commending the staff at the front desk, the bar, the restaurant about their sincere desire to help and to assist. Sometimes a little too much; but that might be my personal preference.

.....actually i found only this one - ad a boutique hotel - in Valetta. In Malta it's an issue as the hotels are not too up to date. So the Osborne is very central with very friendly and helpful personal (without exception), it's clean, etc. Everything seems to be all right. Of course there are some weak points like the cheap - in fact - broken shower cabin, small rooms, some damaged wallcarpet) BUT it's poorly soundproofed. I had luck because the neighbors went to bed early....but with some rowdies or horny couples around one couldn't have slept one minute.

Room Tip: Try to manage not to have neighbors around (beside, above, below, etc).

The hotel is in a handy location for sightseeing in Valetta not too far away from the town a gentle 2-5 minute stroll to find restaurants or the sights. I had a standard room on the 5th floor at the rear and side of the building so had little road noise however could hear occupants of other rooms quite clearly! The room was clean, fairly spacious and nicely decorated unlike my parent's room - so obviously hit and miss as to the standard of these rooms. I found it very odd that staff avoided eye contact especially at reception (normally as you enter and leave a hotel the receptionist acknowledges you - not at the Osborne) however once you managed to engage them they were helpful and friendly.
