When i visit the British Hotel in Valletta Malta i can only describe my experience as wonderful. The location of the Hotel is situated overlooking the Grand Harbour. I enjoy the view of the Grand Harbour when enjoying my meal in the Hotel Restaraunt. The staff are friendly and always wanting you to enjoy your stay at the British. The longer i stay at the hotel the more i love it and appreciate its atmosphere warmth and friendliness of the staff.

Not the finest hotel we've stayed in - a clean but hardly opulent room, no toiletries, no fridge, AC is extra, breakfast is pretty rubbish and at 70 euros a double it ain't cheap. And Valletta is dead by night, except down at the Waterfront complex. But the view of the Grand Harbour from our balcony was fantastic, by day or night. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. If the owners spend a bit of money on this place they could no doubt push the prices up considerably. So get on with it!

Having stayed half-board for one week at the British, we must say there are some very distinct pros and cons. The pros - fantastic views (if you have a harbour-view room); outside dining overlooking the Grand Harbour; excellent location for all amenities and most helpful and pleasant staff. The cons - the food was dreadful, not once were we able to receive exactly what we ordered from the menu with tinned vegetables and "vegetable soup of the day" every day; the dining room furniture had a layer of dust on it.; the bedroom was cleaned in the parts that show, and generally, everywhere needed a face-lift. Having said all that, if you don't go to the British expecting the Ritz you will enjoy it - we did ! ! !

I grew up in Malta, left to Australia when i was almost 18. I used to see the British Hotel and always wondered what it would be like to stay there. Let me tell you, i loved it. I was there for 18 nights. Every morning i had breakfast over looking the Grand Harbour with Tourist liners coming in and out but in the meantime i enjoyed the views of one of the oldest grand harbours in the world. I read my book every night again on the balcony over lookin the grand harbour. I had a room of my chose on the back, i had one of the old wooden balconies (gallaria) which reminded me of my childhood. My room, a simple one, with shower and toilet and very quite in the back, was cleaned, bed made and towels changed everyday. The stuff where extremely friendly and helpfull, they really made me feel at home.
If you want an amazing view, in one the oldest medieval cities in Europe and not spend a fortune, then this is your hotel. If you are used to 4 or 5 star, then do not bother. I thank all the stuff especially Chris and David. Frank Sammut

This is the second time to the British Hotel again we had a most marvellous time.Room facing the harbour, where can you better this view. 90000 ton liners passing the balcony within 200 metres.Staff unfailingly polite and helpful. Food generally good apart from the tinned vegetables.Room was good with massive shared balcony .Downside, cost of living has rocketed since the Euro expect to pay higher cost of eating out and every museum costs around 5 Euro per person. The cathedral is a rip off 6 Euros each even to see the Caravaggio paintings. One upside is the bus system, 47 cents for any journey . Bus drivers vary in temperament from manic happy to surly.

I traveled here as a single female traveller and was quite pleased. It has a good location and an excellent view. If you want clean and no frills, this was it. The staff was helpful and pleasant, made arrangements for taxis, and treated me with great respect. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I also stayed elsewhere in Valletta which had higher reviews, but thought the British was a better value and had better service.

Position overlooking Grand harbour.Valletta. If you get room facing the harbour the view is stunning. This place has been around for a long time and is very very tired indeed. No fridge or tea making facilities. Beds and fittings below par but saying this the position is more important and price is low. A short walk up to centre and restaurants. Has bar but no one uses it, restaurant where a VERY small breakfast is had. Flies buzzing. Was not keen on the idea of dinning there. My choice,La Mere 174 Merchant st , small but excellent. chef only to obliging and Octopus dish just delish. Just around corner from La Mere is The Pub, small bar cashing in on Oliver Reed's fame who is said to have turned blue and died there. His pictures everywhere.

The owner and his cousin ( I think they are) were helpful on information on Malta.
One can stay at Sliema, more flashy, across Marsamxett harbour and ferry to Valletta but these ferrys stop about 5pm so if you miss it you have a long journey by taxi or bus. All in all this accomodation although with its downsides has to many upsides to stay anywhere else. Many restaurants in new complex in cruise terminal.
