“almost unforgettable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014

We had a wonderful holiday in Malta: an authentic country / island with a poetic atmosphere, lots of culture and Beauty. The people are generous and helpful. Our hotel was located in the old part of the " la valletta "- An old restored building with beautiful style thought an end to the smallest detail, quiet, peaceful and the room with incredible view of the sea side. our breakfast was simple and genuine but lacked variety. The only problem was the cleanliness of the room and the lack of service, (the staff is not present in the building and you have to call in a possible need). if you are looking for a Hotel Like "American-style" with all comforts, services and facilities - this hotel is not for you !!!! nevertheless - We loved the place and the people, we had a wonderful week. we recommend everyone to spend time in this hotel and in Malta in particular. Thank you very much Luciano Al Porto !!!!

Room Tip: sea view // "Higher floors have less A/C unit noise"

The room was clean and comfortable, and the harbour view was fantastic. No real complaints about the hotel, though without the view I'd probably only give it 3 stars - continental breakfast was very underwhelming but is a convenient start to the day.

The issue is the noise. There is a bar outside which is loud well into the small hours (we were there Thur/Fri/Sat night) - earplugs recommended!

At first glance this was a fantastic choice. A fairly well renovated traditional old building in the heart of historic Valletta, a stone's throw to the famous St John's cathedral. However, staying at this hotel was like a sentence to a gulag where sleep was not allowed. There is a noisy bar at the foot of the hotel with noise reverberating to rooms at high level until 1 or 2 in the morning. From May to October there is a jazz festival with live orchestra and 80-100 attendees sitting outdoors just under the hotel windows, Although the live band stops playing by 12.30, the noisy guests linger on till much later and after they leave the bar staff puts away the heavy metallic equipment, raising hell. In the morning two heavy tracks arrive early every single day and noisily deliver by hand craters of drinks and food to the shops of the area. If all these were not enough, a truck delivering cylinders of domestic gaz started at 7 in the morning. Oh, I forgot that on Saturday morning (!) an ear splitting drill was working away in the harbor...
All these meant that we were sleepless in this wretched hotel for the whole of our stay which ruined it all. It was a pity really because Valletta was beautiful and the location of the hotel was perfect to explore. The proprietor at the restaurant (serving as the reception of the hotel as well) was rude, unsympathetic and does not know how to handle human contact (a major disadvantage I would think in a hospitality business!!!). The only good and helpful people were the cleaners and Cinzia (who we never saw but arranged by internet and phone our taxis to and from the airport and managed our booking via the internet).
This hotel has enormous potential if the owner knew and cared how to run it professionally and if this bar at the foot of the hotel closed down! What a real shame.

Room Tip: Try to avoid St Ursula's street by choosing a room overlooking only the harbor side. You may hav...

I was given a room with 3 bedrooms with high ceilings and pleasant decor. All the bedrooms are clean and bright. Breakfast was served at the Luciano Restaurant and if you enjoy antiques, old posters and photos you will enjoy everything that can be seen from wall to wall. Nice and helpful staff. The location is great. I got very used to walking 67 steps to get to the restaurant. Good exercise.

Short stay in May. We had a room with stunning views of the harbour. There are only two so I suspect these are very sought after. They are clean tidy functional rooms with TV good shower and comfortable beds. I loved the fact that this is such a different and individual hotel and it is doing it's own thing rather than becoming part of a 'chain.' I was told by the owner that it was a guest house for over a hundred years. It has been beautifully renovated keeping the charm of original features. There is no lift at the moment but the owner said he has applied for permission to install one ( it is a very old building). Less able people may find the top floor rooms a struggle. There is a communal dining/tea coffee area on the ground floor and breakfast is served at the Luciano restaurant a short walk (uphill!) away. Breakfast was choice of continental (cheeses , ham & toast) or full cooked English. The coffee in here is excellent and we were refilled without charge. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. You are a 5 minute walk from harbour ferries and also Valletta city centre (albeit uphill!). I would be nitpicking to find fault so I won't ! Great place and already planning return.

Room Tip: Try and book harbour view rooms (there are only two so I suspect early bookings are a must. There a...

My wife and I had a lovely stay in this B & B. Rooms were clean and tidy. Service was great. Fantastic view of the harbour if you have the right room. The climb up to the main square where breakfast is served in the restaurant is about 200m and quite steep (40% or so) - No problem for us, but might be for some. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast - Not everyone wants a full english! and if you don't, choice is pretty limited. Otherwise a really good B&B and recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a harbour view
