“Great location at the edge of the central area”

Clean and modern accommodation which met all the promises made by the description and the photographs.

We didn't tend to cook much but the kitchen was well equipped for those who might want to. Spacious and comfortable. Two bathrooms one on each level, one with bath and shower, the other with a shower. The stair is a spiral staircase so that might be a consideration for those with limited mobility.

It's situated on a side street off the main busier tourist streets. But the noise of traffic is ubiquitous in the old town and cannot be escaped anywhere.

Underneath is a great baker, Joe Frendo's. Down a steep staircase from the street below the apartment is a great place to get basics: cold beer, bread, fresh milk etc. Not enough to stock up for a cooking extravaganza but enough to keep the fridge ticking over.

It's well situated for good restaurants with a number very nearby: Guze, Capistrano, Zero Sei, I can also recommend Il Kapitali for a good sandwich lunch. It's also close by.

Overall we enjoyed the apartment and the old town of Valletta.

After 5 nights in this apatment, we can only give a positive review. Beautiful place, rather luxurious, fully equiped, looks even better then in the pictures. Good comunication, great service. Confortable beds. Don't expect total silence even in this neighbourhood. But that's way of valletta. Contact directly on their website in order to avoid booking fee(ex. Airbnb, booking.com)Recommended.

“Excellent location”
Reviewed 29 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

After picking this apartment out as a place to stay in Valletta I was delighted to find it was everything we expected.

The location was excellent for sightseeing in Valletta, the apartment was well appointed and the reception we got was excellent.

“Beware! hidden costs”
Reviewed 2 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Our stay was almost ok.
But I was frustrated that we were forced to pay electricity
The web presentation of the apartment did not mention anything about it
We did not expect this.
The owner had the obligation to present on web this condition
The person that introduced us in the apartment said we have to pay extra for anything over 100 kW, and in the price is included 35 EUR for the electricity.
In this case my logic says that if you use less than 100kW, than you get money back, because I payed 35 EUR in advance for electricity.
It's true that air con use lots of electricity, but the owner had to find another method to limit the use.
And he had to announce on web the method of paying for air con.
Because one can choose an apartment knowing what to expect.
Another thing that frustrated me was the condition announced by the person that introduced us in the apartment: if we leave the apart later than 10:30 we have to pay a "fine" of 5 EUR.
Again, nothing was mentioned on web presentation.
We did not expect this.
The owner had the obligation to present on web this condition.
These are the two reasons why we shall not promote this property.
They left us with a bitter taste.
I paid enough money for this property, and on our arrival we were informed about conditions that we did not know before, which implied additional payments.
I believe that it is not an honest thing.

Management Response

Dear Guest,

I am very sorry to learn about your frustration, I would like to point out for the benefit of any future guest that we are 100% transparent and draw your attention to the Booking Platform of which was used namely Holiday Lettings to which our Booking Contract is viewable once you have selected your available dates, the Booking Contract outlines all the terms, conditions, fees and charges and clearly states an allowance of Eur5.00 per day for electric, quote;

Electricity consumption - Electricity will be provided within the rental cost at an allowance of EUR 35.00 per 7 nights stay (EUR 5.00 per day). This is a provision put in place due electricity abuse, you will be provided with electricity cards in addition to the allowance and charged at the end of your stay for any electric cards used. No refund of unused electricity is given. un-quote...

Prior to monitoring electricity certain guest would leave the accommodation for an evening or day out and leave Air Conditioning units running whilst not in residence, thus we introduced several years ago an allowance to keep electricity consumption to a sensible level, whilst offering an adequate amount for a 7 night stay at Eur35.00 or Eur5.00 per night.

Just for the record your consumption for your 7 night stay in September 2014 was Eur19.04 which was Eur15.96 less than the allowance.
You had the opportunity to read all the reviews via TripAdvisor as well as the Booking Contract prior to any commitment, thus NO surprises. One can only assume you did not read the 'Booking Contract' of which in given its content should take no more than 3-5 minutes to read through.

After you completed your booking via Holiday Lettings we also sent you the Booking Contract again and although Holiday Lettings confirmed your stay we also sent you an email subjected 'Booking Confirmation' with a further link to the Booking Contract.

Should you leave the accommodation later than 10:00am on your departure date you have an option to retain the accommodation at Eur5.00 per hour, which is also outlined on the Booking Contract.

I am sorry this left a 'bitter taste' perhaps next time you are making a booking you may care to browse the Terms and Conditions, to place them within a small field on a web page would render the advert untidy a link is provided to open the Terms and Conditions on Holiday Lettings.

Regards,
Paul Hay

“Fabulous, Elegant, Beautifully Furnished and simply WOW!”
Reviewed 19 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Stayed at the Old Mint Apartment no.1 and I really cannot find anything to fault it! I spent 10 days with 3 of my friends and it was just what we needed.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner Claire who was a delight!
The entrance to the building leaves you with that "Wow" impression! (Remember to check out the year of the building just above the fish fountain!)
She happily took us to apartment no1 and the lift came in handy with all the bags we were carrying! Gave us all the instructions we needed to know and some wicked restaurant tips...she knows of many places in Valletta that are a MUST!
The apartment is spotless and squeaky clean - everything looked as though nobody had been there before. Beautiful paintings on the wall and lovely large windows and high ceilings (a lovely sense of openness from a small apartment back home!). The kitchen has all that we needed and we definitely got a good nights rest after the bustling days out in the city.
It was home away from home - they even have beach towels - not something I usually find when staying in apartments!!!
Thank you Claire for your hospitality! A much needed break and I am looking forward to come back! Will definitely spread the word :) You indeed do have a little gem there!
