First impressions were very favourable. We were welcomed with a hot towel and a glass of fruit punch. The room was large and well-appointed, with both a bath and shower, but the quality of build and finishes was poor. I got the impression that this hotel had been thrown together in a hurry. Bars and restaurants were very good, and the views from the hotel very impressive. However, our request for a window table at breakfast was twice met with a refusal. The other days we were left to sit where we wanted! A very good breakfast selection, including sparkling wine. Free wi-fi is available in the public areas and guest rooms, though the signal was very weak in our room. This is a very modern hotel, built in 2007, and a few fake plaster lions do not a hotel of character make!

One of the best points is the excellent location, overlooking the harbour and close to Valletta's amazing bus terminal. Walking time into central Valletta is less than 10 minutes.

The main problem with the hotel was that we were woken very early by noise which seemed to be caused by work being done in the hotel almost every morning. The worst was on our last day when we were woken at 06.30 by work taking place in the ballroom for an event later that day. Sound travels in this hotel, which may be another indication of poor construction.

I would recommend this hotel if you can get a good rate. We used 1800HOTELS.com and I would say we got good value for money for an off-season stay.

Good value for money and above all: the concierge went out of her way involving her family to assist with historical research. All other queries were dealt with quickly and competently. Being chosen for the film set for the Saddam Hussein bio (one of his palaces) gives you an idea of the ambiente, certainly not the atmosphere.

We arrived at the hotel with a car and outcomes one of the bell boys offering help with the luggage. We were escorted then to the front desk and the same bell boy comes again offering a refreshing towel with a smile and then a welcome drink. We were quite impressed with this one of a kind welcome.Check-in was a smooth process with no problems what-so-ever and a lot of information but we were advised to call should we need more. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and entertained a bit my child as well while filing up the registration card. We mentioned that we were I-Prefer members and we were immediately offered a late check out upon arrival if we wanted too. We were then escorted by the bell boy to a wonderful sweet and wished us a pleasant stay. Wonderful views, wonderful staff and to top it off wonderful food. A vast variety of items are available during breakfast. The only disappointment is you might have to ask more then once for coffee to be served to your table. But overall it was a wonderful experience and not to be missed

My partner and I booked at this hotel as part of a package deal, and for the price paid we felt we had an excellent stay.

The service was very good, the rooms very luxurious and the breakfast was extensive and very tasty. We also used the indoor pool (it was too cold for the outdoor one) which was very enjoyable. The location of the hotel is very convenient, as it is just outside the walls of Valletta and very near the bus terminus to reach other places on the island.

The only downsides were the disappointing service at breakfast on one day of our stay (this was Valentines Day, so perhaps the hotel was more booked up on this day and didn't have enough staff working to cope with demand), and the slightly confusing moment when we arrived back at our room to collect our bags before checking out, to find that our key would no longer work. It turned out reception lock each room an hour before check out. This was easily rectified as a maid opened the door for us and we quickly grabbed our bags!

All in all, a very relaxing and luxurious stay.
